River, 10 month Catahoula

As a way to give back during quarantine, my family signed up to foster dogs with DCCR. We had previous fostered with another rescue and felt prepared to work with DCCR. Immediately, we noticed major differences. DCCR goes above and beyond to support foster families by providing food, puppy needs, crates, and even a foster family support group page on FB. They have countless files to walk fosters through every stage and all of the processes. I was seriously so impressed and felt so supported. We ended up falling in love with our foster dog and adopted him. The process was seamless - and we all know NOTHING is seamless during COVID! The rescue volunteers handled every interaction with grace and care. We highly recommend DCCR to any prospective fosters and adopters!!!

Dear DCCR, Thank you for saving me and bringing me here from Texas. You must've known that I would be happy here after surviving Parvo and Mange there... My Mom, Dad and big doggie brother love me so much!!! Thanks to you, I now have a beautiful, happy life. Love, Sierra (fka Violett, adopted 4/11/2020)

I adopted my dog from DCCR in July. He came from Houston testing positive for heart worm. I took that into consideration before officially adopting him, as treatment for heart worm in addition to being so painful for the dog, costs thousands of dollars. When I adopted him, I was informed by Douglas County Canine Rescue that they would cover all treatment until he is heart worm free. I was pleasantly surprised! Thank you to all who adopt puppies! That money helps those of us who adopt adult dogs. DCCR sees the treatment through, so that we can help a dog live a healthier, longer, life. Thank you DCCR for all you do!!

Caucasian coaches are allowed to not follow Gold Crown rules and when shown video evidence of these disparities, their Sports Program Director, Mark Rusch, decides to "not allow" me to continue to volunteer as coach instead of addressing the disparities. My initial interaction with Mr. Rusch, following another instance of disparate treatment, was marked by his unprofessional demeanor. He addressed me in a condescending manner, wagging his finger in my face and lecturing me about service while having zero clue about my commitment to serving my community(the fact that I was already volunteering my time wasn't enough). All the while, as I was being talked to like a toddler, I addressed him in a professional manner, addressing him as sir and responding to his questions with "yes sir." Their executive director and his brother(also employed by gold crown) coach teams and allow their children to play dirty. The refs overlook their players but give the opposing teams technical fouls for defending themselves after being body checked twice. Referees are advised to pay increased attention to minority coaches due to the perception that we're more inclined to be a problem. This non-profit organization, which compensates its director over $200,000 annually, as revealed in their most recent tax filings, has a history of racial discrimination that they attempt to conceal and dismiss. Upon reviewing their website, it is evident that Gold Crown's decision-making staff lacks minority representation. This absence, particularly in a sport with the highest minority participation in the state, serves as compelling evidence suggesting that Gold Crown does not take diversity seriously and lacks the ability to have at least one impartial and representative voice on their team.

YAY! I get to finally write a review on 4P4L!!…read more We found 4P4L due to a Petfinder search back in 2021. The dog we initially adopted wasn't good with our cats even though he was fine in his foster home with the resident cat. 4P4L understood and we were able to return him. They had asked me to write an updated bio for him so that potential adopters would get a better understanding of his demeanor. He was such a sweet dog but my cats weren't his thing, which wasn't his fault in the slightest. I wrote the bio and he got adopted. I was then asked to volunteer and become a foster, so we started fostering. A 3 day sleepover for a foster pup is how we started and since 2021, we have fostered over 100 dogs and volunteer at adoption events. While it is so tempting to adopt all our fosters, we know we're just helping them adjust to home life. There have been a few that we invoked the 6 month rule: if we have the pup for 6 months, we would adopt him/her because at 6 months, you're a part of our pack. Last month, there was a need to foster these 2 rottie pups because it was time for them to separate from their momma and momma needed a break. Rotties are one of our preferred breeds! Well, we invoked the 6 DAY rule knowing that the pups would be adopted within the week. So that's it! That's how we got our Saoirse! Even if you cannot adopt, please think about volunteering with us or becoming a foster! A little weekend break from the kennel is what all the dogs need and you may just invoke your own 6 day rule!!

So SOMEHOW, SOMEONE here at Yelp took away my ORIGINAL , TRUTHFUL review of this crappy rescue…read more Pics to prove what they did. It appears this rescue is able to pick and choose their posted reviews! Really Yelp? What have you turned into if we cannot post our TRUTHFUL experiences here? This upsetting and honestly, it's CENSORSHIP! Let me try again and see if yelp decides to censor me again. We adopted a cockapoo here. My mother paid $480 for our girl. We arrived and she comes out to us, UNBATHED, UNGROOMED and she SMELLED awful. She had diarrhea all over her rear end and she was SO terrified, she was shaking and pooped in the girls arms as she was carrying her. It was OBVIOUS that not ONE person had worked with her, bathed her or groomed her since she arrived at this facility! Just put her up on line and waited for someone to adopt her. Clearly NOT in it for the welfare of these animals. Just the money. Never an apology or explanation for this. No follow up phone call to see how she was adjusting. NOTHING. Based on everything here, we DO NOT RECOMMEND this rescue. They are SHAMEFUL!
