I wish I had read the reviews before staying here, that was my mistake. This hotel is far below what I expect from the Hilton Hotels standard. The property feels run-down, understaffed, has no convenient parking, smelled like mold, and overall felt cheap. My room also had a strange whining/winding noise throughout the entire night, which made it difficult to sleep. I called the front desk about it, but no maintenance assistance was offered and I wasn't given an alternative room. The next morning, we went to breakfast after being told it was served until 11:00 AM. We arrived at 10:15 AM, yet staff were already cleaning up and removing food. Despite serving what was essentially cold leftovers, they still charged us $25 per person. To make matters worse, our waiter, Martin, was trying to rush us out nearly 10 minutes before breakfast officially ended. Overall, this experience was extremely disappointing and nowhere near the quality I expected. I would strongly recommend staying elsewhere. read more

I attended an event at this hotel and decided to grab two cookies. At other DoubleTree locations I've visited, cookies have typically been complimentary for event guests, even if you're not staying overnight, so I was surprised that I had to pay for them. I used my debit card and went on with my day. The bigger issue came the following day when I checked my bank account and saw two additional charges from the hotel that I did not authorize. I called right away and was directed to their Accounting Department. I was told they would look into it, but I didn't hear back and had to follow up myself. When I finally spoke with someone, I was informed that my debit card information had been left on file in their register, and the next two transactions processed on that register were charged to my account. While I appreciate that they explained what happened, there was no apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience. Per my bank's recommendation, I had to close my debit card and update all of my automatic payments, which was extremely time-consuming. I also emailed the hotel manager to formally document my complaint and never received a response. Unfortunately, the lack of follow-through and professionalism left a disappointing impression. Based on this experience, I wouldn't feel comfortable staying here in the future. read more

This DoubleTree hotel is located around the Whittier downtown area. I came here for a trading card show event a few weekends ago, and had a pleasant time. Firstly, there's parking in the hotel and it's free. However, for large events, the parking garage does get filled up quickly, so I recommend coming early. I then walked to the entrance and was greeted by security - I appreciate the level of effort they put into making it safe for guests and visitors. There was plenty to of space for the card show, basically one huge room and one smaller room. In short, the space was large to fit a lot of vendors while it still feeling relatively spacious. The best part about this hotel is proximity to other places. It's near great restaurants and stores. Overall, this DoubleTree was a fantastic location for hosting events such as a trading card show. read more

I was looking for a reasonably priced hotel that wasn't too far between Las Vegas and Los Angeles and I opted to stay at the Doubletree Whittier. This is a nifty little property that has a lot going for it indeed. Located in a cute downtown area with lots of local shops, bars, and restaurants, I arrived late at night. Too late to enjoy many of the nearby things to do (next time I'd probably stay here and arrive earlier so I could walk around the adorable downtown area). The hotel is steps from all sorts of places to hang out, and it looked very inviting. Parking is free and in an adjacent parking garage. It didn't feel very secure, so be sure to lock up your valuables. At night, the hotel entrance that was most convenient to the garage was literally BOLTED shut, so we had to walk a ways with our heavy luggage to go in the main front entrance. If you arrive later at night, it's best to drop off your luggage with one member in your party and then go park to avoid having to haul lots of bags. The parking spots are also SUPER small, so be prepared to get dings and dents in your car if you have a larger SUV. Hotel check-in was fine, but I wasn't welcomed back as a Diamond Member. It's dumb I know, but something that at least makes me feel valued. We were given an upgrade and had a King room on the first floor that overlooked the pool area. Our patio had a very nice table and chair set-up with a great view of the pool (see photos). Again, super bummed that we really weren't able to take advantage of this since we got to the hotel so late that night. The room felt dated but was very clean, and the furnishings were in good condition. The bathroom was modern and bright, and the bed was so comfortable. As Hhonors Diamond members, we were also given a per-person credit that we opted to spend in the small lobby shop to get some Evian water and snacks. It's a nice perk that we appreciated. The hotel seems to specialize in groups, conventions and weddings, and I can see why. It's a very nice hotel and I'd stay here again. Oh, and the complimentary warm Doubletree chocolate chip cookies provided at check-in were excellent! It's one of the best perks of staying at a Doubletree. read more

I have never had my hotel reservation canceled on me BY THE HOTEL one hour before check in until I tried to stay here. I had a planned trip and booked this hotel several weeks in advance. Once I got off my flight, the hotel called and said they canceled my reservation due to overbooking. Yet they used my credit card on file and charged me for the entire stay 6 hours before. I called and was unable to speak with the manager. The hotel had transferred my reservation to another hotel 20 minutes away without my consent. I informed them I did not agree to any transfer. I did not receive any formal confirmation that a refund was issued. I also never got any formal confirmation explanation as to why I was charged for my stay but was canceled a few hours later. Poor communication and unreliable. I've never had such a poor hotel experience and I highly do NOT recommend staying here. I have lost my faith in this hotel and chain. read more

We were in town from San Diego to attend a funeral. Staff was helpful and efficient. Hotel is located smack dab in the middle of a thriving neighborhood of little shops and restaurants as well as a residential neighborhood. Kind of a "mixed use" area which gave it a very homey feeling with people strolling along the tree lined streets walking their dogs and just hanging out. It's a really nice little area with a cool vibe. We tried the new El Tapeyac location on Greenleaf two blocks from the hotel which was having a soft opening. Hotel was a little noisy during the night with cruising and loud bass music. But, nothing that lasted too long. Kids also screaming and laughing loudly during the night in another room. But, it was a Saturday night. The only complaint was no hand held shower massage to just rinse off without getting your hair wet which a tub would have served that purpose. Seems like this is the new normal for hotel rooms these days. We had no problem finding parking in the lot. read more

She connected us with the manager and walked us through as to group pricing and then offering our group a free brunch ticket for staying....we basically had 40 rooms and I heard nothing but a great place to stay. They like to charge $$$ if there are any stains that are washable left behind. Never had a hotel charge us before for something they could simply throw in the washing machine. If you have little kids I suggest you don't stay here unless you like surprise charges. Also my wife booked this hotel with points. They canceled it out and booked for cash. Decided to treat the fam bam & myself of course to some delicious DoubleTree cookies. We are fans of these, but man these came out HARD! My husband & I were told by the woman at the counter they were baked fresh daily, but the hardness of them tells me otherwise. At $4 dollars a cookie, I'm expecting to bite into a moist & delicious cookie & this location failed to rep an iconic treat from this franchise. Y'all need to get it together. Stayed here for my wedding during new years weekend and it was super convenient serving its purpose! Room was clean, comfy with helpful amenities like a mini fridge, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. Bed was comfy and front desk was friendly and helpful. I only minus one star for a moment when the guest elevators weren't working for a little bit but it was during a time when I needed to change for my wedding and the service elevator took a long time. Do NOT stay here. Fraudulent $197.25 charge for a room I already paid for. I have stayed here multiple times. One time the water was shut off for the entire building for the DAY (picture attached). This most recent trip was in July. It happened to be the week where there was a hacking thing happening and computers were messed up by it. When I checked in I had to fill out a piece of paper with all of my information because their entire system was down. When I returned home from my trip I noticed a $197.25 for Double Tree Whittier, which is odd because I booked my trip through Orbitz and was charged through them. I figured it was for incidentals or something and it would be reversed. It was not. I called MULTIPLE times to have them reverse the charge. I was directed to the general manger named David (I think) who was the only person who could handle this. Well, David never answers his phone, he's never available, and his mailbox is always full so you can't leave a message. I disputed the charge with my bank, but since I booked through Orbitz and the charge came up as Double Tree Whittier they wouldn't reverse the charge. I called again and got sent to a supervisor named Monique. She assured me they knew about the problem with the hacking, they're trying to get everyone their money back. Oh no, her computer wasn't working so she'd have to do it later but she would 100% get me my money back and have someone call me back. Yeah...that NEVER happened. After 2 weeks, I called back. Only for Monique to tell me that she "couldn't find the charge so it must have been taken care of already" and when I asked for proof that they sent the money back...well she would have to talk to the accountant and YOU GUESSED IT he wasn't there that day, WHAT a coincidence. The hotel is fine, the rooms are fine. But DO NOT stay here, if you have even the slightest of issues with your stay you will be given the runaround for at least 4 months and be out nearly $200. read more

They have several cars parked for what seems to be months. Clearly broken down and not running. The parking situation is horrible. Security never left the seat in the few hours I was in and out. Drug addicts walking the parking structure. "Erica" at the front desk was extremely unprofessional parked in the "no parking" area. Was trying to circle around and "Erica" was parked there and clearly refused to move. I had to go in reverse and drive the wrong direction causing a huge safety concern. She had a horrible attitude so does Albert whom claimed to be the manger. He raised good voice at me when calling requesting an early check in. The cookies were super hard unlike other double trees. Honestly worse experience ever and I am a Hilton member. Never have i encountered so many rude employees at a Hilton double tree ever. All hall ways are extremely warm clearly they don't run the a/c. Would never ever stay here again and regret spending so much money to stay so many nights. Only good thing about this hotel is it is close to restaurants and bars in the area. They have the side door locked with a pad lock to where you cannot exit. Which raises fire hazard concerns. In the event of an emergency clearly you can not use that exit. read more

Was there for an event. The event was great and the staff that helped with event were great. We stayed for one night and accommodations were excellent. That all rated a 5 stars but what in my opinion matters the most was that my wife left an item behind and when we got home she called the hotel. The hotel personnel told her that they would check and call her back. No call back and when my wife reached out again they told her no item was found. Dishonest employees ruins business. If you stay here please double check your items before checking out because you will not get them back. I'm usually a Marriott loyalist, but I stayed at the DoubleTree on a work trip to Whittier. The hotel felt old and outdated. My room felt a little dirty. The carpet didn't feel fresh and my sink had a weird smell to it every time I ran the water. I was actually a little weary about brushing my teeth with it because of how bad it smelled so I opted to use a water bottle instead. One perk of staying at a DoubleTree is always getting a yummy chocolate chip cookie! Our stay also came with food and beverage credit because of my colleague's status so we were able to get breakfast and some afternoon snacks in the bar area. The food options at the hotel were solid. Portions were huge and the food was tasty. Nothing stand out or fancy at all. More food that does the trick and fills you up. This was a no frills stay. read more

They are the worst possible place to stay if you want fraud on your credit card. I was charged thousands of dollars on a credit card that wasn't even used to pay for the room just to reserve it. I called the manager to let them know one of their employees were committing fraud and using my card. I got the blow off and was kept being told they would get back to me which they never did. Citibank credit card told me the charges that were placed was for a room (which was not the room that our guest from out of town checked into), 800.00 days in food charges, another 800.00 that cash was pulled out, another 400.00 for damages to the room and it continues to go further in charges. I shows proof of receipt so the so called manager didn't know how to defend that. I believe the manager was in on the fraud as well. This is under Hilton and this is a disgrace. read more

Being a bit later in the evening, I didn't want to fill up on a lot of meat or pasta, so I ordered a Cobb salad from the restaurant. The Cobb salad came with greens, egg, chicken, lettuce, tomato, and crumbled blue cheese. You have two choices of dressing either ranch or creamy blue cheese. I went with the creamy blue cheese. I've had a few Cobb salads in my day, but for hotel food, this was very good. Regarding the hotel, it's nice. The room is clean. The people are super friendly and the amenities are on par. read more

We also used this hotel for a reunion and the hotel not only charged me for two of the same nights, but will not return my calls as promised. This is now fraud and reported. While the lobby is nice, the rooms are dirty and smell awful from old carpets, drapes and filthy air conditioners ( that is, if you got one to work) The bed seemed clean but the bathroom was disgusting especially the ring around the tub. Don't let them tell you they are renovating them. I wouldn't step in one. The refrigerator ran 24/7 and froze everything to the point of breaking glass. The managers were not helpful but I did tell my Hilton text of "how are we doing?" exactly what I've written with the exception of the non-Allergy cookies having nuts in them. This hotel is over priced. Let me start by giving positives: the room was very clean, the beds were nicely made and there were no stale odors. Now, let's talk about holding $100 for incidentals??? Like what? There are 2 $3.00 bottles of kirkland water in the room why do you have to authorize $100 for that. Second the beds. It felt like I was sleeping on the floor, they were that hard. For the amount of money they charge per room I'm pretty sure they can afford at least a mattress pad for each bed. Third, customer service was standard not great not bad just average. The hotel is generally nice but there were a few problems. My friend paid ahead online but was charged again at check in and had to check his credit card statement and return to the desk to get the charges dropped. The Doubletree national booking system wasn't properly linked to the local system. The hallways are not air conditioned, or the A/C wasn't being used, probably to advertise that they're being environmental when it's really just about saving costs. Between walking through the warm humid hallway to go to breakfast and then back to the room to grab things, and back to leave, we were sweating through our dress clothes. They have a policy that you need to request for your room to be serviced which is noted on their terms, but who reads those anyway. It would have been nice to be asked at check-in if we wanted our room cleaned or if they had a sign clearly stating that we needed to request it in the room. This is another "environmental" cost savings that needed to be better communicated. They have a policy of no outside food or drink at the pool, but since the restaurant/kitchen isn't open for lunch, I simply took the lunch we had brought out there anyway. It needed to sit in the heat of the day because the room refrigerator froze the food and sodas anyway. The restaurant is open for breakfast and we went down to eat. Unfortunately, we did not see anyone serving, so it felt like our only choice was the buffet even though we ate relatively small portions and could have been happy with simple eggs and hash browns. We saw a menu for breakfast in the lobby, but what use is an a la carte menu when there's no one to take your order. read more

The hotel sent a cancellation notice Tuesday evening when I was supposed to check in on Saturday for 5 rooms. Yes 5 rooms. The hotel management staff are cowards. They cancelled our rooms at 6pm. Management staff are only there until 5pm. Obviously, I'd call to ask what happened, only to be told you need to call tomorrow to talk to the GM. COWARDLY to have your desk clerk handle disgruntled guests. I called the next day and their GM was busy. Come to find out, they cancelled over 500 reservations due to a pricing glitch. I now had to pay a difference of $100 more per night per room. This was the best discount they could honor. I could get a better rated hotel for that same price or less so no thanks. They didn't even apologize for the inconvenience. They made me feel like I was being an inconvenience for even calling them to ask why they cancelled my rooms. Thanks for ruining my trip before it even started. read more
