I attended a conference at this hotel and was happy with a few things about it, but unpleasantly surprised with even more.
Firstly, this is a Hilton facility, and by far the worst hotel owned/named under Hilton that I have ever been to. I really don't think Mr. Hilton would be very pleased to come here and stay in this place; in fact, I think he would be ashamed of it, and I'm surprised he hasn't forced changes to take place at this DoubleTree.
Let's start with the accommodations- I stayed in a room that had one of the hardest beds I've ever slept on. I've been more comfortable in most Motel 6's and Super 8's- this bed was just plain uncomfortable- hard, little cushion, not supportive of the body. It felt like the mattress was 30 years old. The pillows were flimsy and not supportive also- my neck was stiff each morning I woke up. The sheets and blanket were so skimpy I had to turn the A/C down to keep from freezing. The room itself felt like it hadn't been updated in 30 years- worn carpet, older lights, dated bathrooms, an aging refrigerator. The sound insulation in the room was poor also- my room faced Route 50, and the entire time I was in my room, I heard the traffic racing back and forth, like there was a window open that I couldn't shut or something. Whomever built this place skimped on the windows- single-pane, thin glass with virtually no sound insulation provided.
The hallways, elevator, and conference rooms were no better- one conference room we used had stained seats on the chairs, a carpet that had spots and looked like it had been torn up in one room and transferred to the current one. The carpet actually had pieces that you could tell had been cut in wide strips, and although it appeared they had put work into placing it back without gaps on this particular floor, my question was are they so cheap they couldn't install a new carpet? It looked really tacky. The sounds system was really awful also- frequent feedback, outdated equipment, poor quality sound- just a mess. It didn't make for great communication, especially if you were in the back.
So, what was nice? The food- it was very good. I had few complaints about the meals- well done, good selection, pleasant wait staff (although they loved to take the plates before you were finished). The Italian meal we had was really good. Breakfast was somewhat limited in selection, but the food that was there was noteworthy.
The front desk and cleaning staff were nice also- pleasant, responsive, and courteous without patronizing. I have no complaints there.
So, I'd love to say this place is worth coming back just for the food and nice staff, but it isn't. I don't come to a hotel, especially a Hilton-named hotel to stay in an uncomfortable, noisy, dated room, no matter how good dinner is. Shame on you Mr. Hilton for allowing this to happen- this DoubleTree has so much potential, but you've allowed it to slide into a dirty, dated, dilapidated, and disrepaired accommodation. Two stars. read more
