We had gotten to the hotel and the valet continued to remind us repeatedly that we were allowed 15 minutes to unload our belongings, which we thought was very rude. Well good evening and welcome to you too! Once we got to the front desk, the woman I spoke to was very short with us and we gave her all the information she needed to assign the room. We paid via trivago, showed the confirmation, provided the last digits of the card, my ID, and told her that it was already paid for. She continued to state we were not in their system and unwilling to help. Expressing very clearly that none of the things we provided were going to be enough. Then I suppose, she had remembered something we stated earlier and suddenly provided us our room keys. Such a hassle and terrible attitude. Such a different interaction between us and this front desk lady vs the other employee next to her taking care of another customer. Other than the rude valet and front desk lady, all other staff were very nice. The cleaning lady, the room service server and front desk when we left. We had a 2 night stay at the hotel and the only thing missing in the room, which I now learned would have to be an additional request, is a mini fridge in the room. For the cost of living in CR and amount paid, the fridge should be a given, especially the hilton honors rooms. I liked the coffee in the rooms, which is not typical of coffee in hotel rooms. The crabtree and evelyn products were a nice touch. Bed was very comfy and clean. We ordered room service twice and fell in love with the tiramisu. The crab and corn chowder was not my favorite, but tolerable. My partner loved the 5 cheese mac, but it seemed too rich for me. We liked the steak that came with the mac, but a very small portion for the pricing. The crab cakes were quite delicious! read more

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Cedar Rapids Convention Complex - Pretty tree display - Hotels Near Me - Cedar Rapids, Iowa

The room itself gets a 5-star rating... these rooms are enormous! They're essentially the size of my entire apartment from a few years ago. Comfy beds, big TVs, a nice sitting chair, desk space, etc. I like that the sink is outside of the shower/toilet area, makes getting ready in the morning a breeze. So why the 3 stars? Here is my big complaint: THE NOISE. I didn't hear slamming doors, etc., but you can hear the elevator going up & down all night long. You can also hear the train tracks behind the hotel that allow you to wake up to blaring horns. And if you have a room in the front of the building, the traffic outside will make you crazy, too. Not to mention the concert venue attached to the hotel, where a lovely, soothing band named Five Finger Death Punch may try to lull you to sleep. I mean granted, the band is what it is, it's not my thing but if you like it, go on with your bad self. However, the fact that I could hear the music in my room, 12 floors above the venue, was a bit annoying. Thankfully I always travel with earplugs. The valet people were decently nice, albeit a little flustered/confused at times when trying to get our cars out. There is no refrigerator or microwave, but they do give you 2 bottles of water in the room, so that's very nice. Coffee maker, hairdryer, etc. are all provided as well, and there is even an alarm clock that you can charge your iPhone (the dock itself is for an iPhone 4, but, in the back there is a USB outlet that you can charge with). Overall, it's a very good choice in the area, just make sure to double-check if there is a show going on at the convention center before booking. read more

Best hotel ever for Cedar Rapids. There's SO MANY complimentary things, like the shuttle that took us everywhere we needed to go and a text service for that shuttle. The restaurant in the hotel was amazing too! Definitely staying here every time I come to Cedar Rapids read more

I hate to give this place such a low rating because it's actually a really nice hotel with nice rooms and good food. But, I had the same issue that a number of others have mentioned - the train tracks are literally right next to the hotel and the train horns are deafening. Even worse... they come through in the middle of the night multiple times a night. Forget about sleeping - You will be awoken by a crazily loud horn every few hours and the horn lasts for a good 5-10 mins each time. Before night two, I went to the front desk and asked about whether I could get a room on the other side of the hotel, hoping that it would be better. They were very nice, but they said that it was just my bad luck for getting a room that's on the side of the hotel that has the train right there. They gave me earplugs, which they said are supposed to be in every room (although they weren't in mine). Net-net, I love this hotel's rooms and the friendly staff, but the main point of a hotel is for sleep. Since I can't do that here, I have to give it a low rating. read more

I have stayed at this hotel once or twice per year for the last 4 years or so, and it has been absolutely flawless every time. From the restaurant, to the rooms, from the check in to the location - I am a permanent fan of this hotel. I was inspired to review with 5 stars on this stay, in particular, because of how well they handled an error. I ordered a birthday amenity of chocolate covered strawberries to be left in the room prior to our arrival. We arrived, and no strawberries were to be found! I waited til my girlfriend was in the bathroom and checked to make sure we got the right room. I forget the woman's name, but she was in guest services, and she corrected the error right away. Then she followed up by calling me to apologize profusely and asked how she could make it up to me. I told her we would be having breakfast in the restaurant the next morning, and she said she would arrange for some coupons to take care of it. I was WOW'd. It turned a simple mistake into a great experience. That is true hospitality. Shortly after, room service arrived with the strawberries. My girlfriend was so happy with them, she was in tears. Thanks to CR Doubletree Guest Services for the save, and the recovery coupons. THIS is how you run a hotel with CLASS! read more

I'll start with the positives. The building and the room are nicely decorated and the room is clean. The staff that I encountered were very friendly. Unfortunately, however, I found it impossible to sleep here. The first problem was the hotel's location which is right next to train tracks that seem to run constantly. I was woken up several times by passing trains plus the sound of what I am guessing was nearby HVACs. My other complaint is that the room had night lights built into the light switches which then reflected off of two mirrors making it too bright for my taste. I guess ear plugs and a sleep mask could have solved the problems but I find both uncomfortable. They really need to put in better sound proofing and control over all lighting. read more

Very nice hotel. Welcoming staff. Large rooms!! My first time at a Double Tree, so the cookie was a welcome surprise when checking in. Parking was convenient right across the street. The train track is close, but the noise was minimal and easy to sleep through. Cedar Rapids is a nice place to visit and very walkable to get around!! I will definitely visit again and also keep Hilton/Double Tree in mind for future trips. read more

Never ever stay at this hotel their is a train that goes right in front of the hotel non-stop and it's a incredibly loud how the hell is someone supposed to sleep here what a joke stay away stay away read more

When I first made the reservation, the hotel clerk did not tell me she was going to charge my credit card at that time. She also did not tell me there was no parking at the hotel... That you had to park in a parking deck around the corner. She also did not tell me there was a $12 charge to do that. When we arrived to check in, the check in process was very quick and good. We did receive our warm cookies at check in. When we got up to the room, the room was absolutely beautiful, spotless, spectacular. The beds were comfortable everything was great. After good night sleep and enjoying ourselves at the concert that was at the attached US cellular Center, we went to check out. There was a huge line with only one clerk at the desk. Another clerk kept coming out and looking at people but never offered to help any of the rest of us standing in line. It took us over 20 minutes to get checked out. The clerk it checked us out asked if I wanted to leave everything on the card. I said the room has already been paid for. She said you have incidentals... I said no I do not. She said you have to pay for your parking. That's how we found out about the charge. We could not pay cash for the parking because she didn't have any cash in her drawer. So I had to leave it on my card. I am extremely upset with the staff at the hotel. The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous. But the staff leaves a little to be desired. read more

Being a resident of the Cedar Rapids area, I am highly disappointed in the hotel. We reserved a block of rooms for our upcoming wedding and arranged for 25+ people to have brunch at the restraunt the next morning. Getting a clear answer out of anyone, particularly the events team was so challenging that I passed the duty not only onto my fiance but when he couldn't get any form of clear communication, my mother. Finally we got the block of rooms reserved and it came time to ask about any add-on or anythign special they may offer for the bride and groom the night of the wedding. "No" "We don't offer anything" were the responses I got. No explanation, nothing, terrible service and terrible hospitality. When my mother asked if she could purchase strawberries or champagne for our room she was initially told no, they didn't offer that.... what?!?! Later, she asked if should could bring her own and have them deliver a few items to the room (as she would not be there- she'd be at the ceremony) they told her they could do that but it'd be a $3 charge PER ITEM. Chamgange 2 glasses and strawberries $12. I'm laughing at this point because what else is there to do. The only good thing about this hotel is the location is downtown which is convenient for us and they offer a "free" shuttle to your venue... but only certain mile radius and at certain hours... and you have to reserve the shuttle none of which we were told 5 months ago when we booked, but only found out a week ago. Needless to say, if my wedding weren't in TWELVE days, I would go elsewhere- I"m bringing ~ $4k to that hotel--- apparently that is not enough to get decent customer service. NExt time, consider the Marriott or Kirkwood Hotel which I've heard great reviews from. -Angry Bride read more

Terrible service and no free parking. Worst hotel in town. Wi-Fi wont work because there's to many people

Clean. Cookies were warm and delicious even at 1:30am. Hotel staff warm and friendly. Easy parking. Great event center attached to the building. Would stay here again...just wouldn't eat at the restaurant...after being served moldy toast at our table, the situation was presented to the waitress who did nothing to make the situation better. Left feeling disgusted. read more

First of all.. the beds are TINY! So be prepared to squish if you have to share. NO FRIDGE OR MICROWAVE which sucks when you go out to eat and can't even bring home leftovers cause there's no fridge. No breakfast even offered, you have to pay for parking which sucks, they don't have any other coffee or tea outside of the garbage stuff in the room. Not once was I greeted by any of the staff and when I went to check out there were 4 people at the front desk just standing there without acknowledging me for a good couple minutes until they finally took my room keys and confirmed check out. You'd think that being attached to an event center and have constantly booked rooms they'd be more accommodating but instead they know they don't have to be because there's slim pickings for hotels downtown. My opinion... go a little further out and Uber to downtown. read more

Nice hotel, clean, cozy rooms with train tracks next door. The city really should install gates so the train doesn't blow it's whistle over and over 24 hours a day! Unfortunately it woke my kids many times :-( read more

Let's start by giving this hotel 5 stars. We'll deduct one star because your room will either face the train tracks and the trains come through all night and blow their whistle, or the main drag where people apparently enjoy riding their Harleys up and down the street all night. Not necessarily the hotel's fault, but... We'll next deduct one star for no A/C. In Iowa. In Summer. My kids' room was a sauna. I asked the hotel to send someone up to check it out. The technician was actually a very friendly man, who explained that, for some reason, the evaporator lines installed were too small and prone to not drain correctly, which meant the unit would just run the fan constantly when they clogged up. AND THAT WAS IT. He just said "Sorry" and left it hot. Thanks. We'll deduct one more star for no breakfast. I don't want to get up on my high frequent traveler horse, but I average 3 nights/week all year long in hotels, mostly in Hilton properties, and expect something for my loyalty. One of my guarantees as a Diamond member at Doubletree properties is "Continental Breakfast - You will receive complimentary Continental breakfast for you and up to one additional registered hotel guest each day of your stay" however, I was told by the front desk staff that my Diamond status and $14.95/person would buy me breakfast. The happy part of this story was that we found The Breakfast House (see my review there) a short distance away (and for much less than $15/head). I overheard one of the staff saying that the hotel was rumored to be up for sale. Maybe that's why the staff turned an almost great stay into something extraordinarily mediocre. read more

Amazing property in the heart of downtown. Great amenities, gorgeous room, and I can't say enough about the professionalism of the staff. Stayed here for work for three nights. Had everything I needed. Great buffet breakfast with tons of options ($16 I think, which is expensive). Workout room is sufficient although their weight machine is pretty old and frustrating - the rod that keeps the weights in place hits the bottom of the plastic shield every time you pull the weights up. There are plenty of treadmills (I went at 4:30am, and no one else was there) and they also have a recumbent bike and some elliptical machines. They had free weights, medicine balls, a bosu ball, and more. Would have loved more variety in machines (maybe a step climber). Pool is open 6am-10pm, but haven't checked it out. Room was spacious and mostly clean. Soap is very nice. They have free chocolate chip cookies with nuts if you ask at the front desk (standard at all double trees I think). read more

Very nice place except a lot of noisy from outside( subway, train, cars, motor cycle). You can hear everything...

It amazes me that they have such a beautiful facility that is NOBODY knows how to run. A year ago we stayed here while we were in town for some Xmas festivities...we were met at the front desk with incompetence and rudeness...we shrugged it off and wrote it off as being a new branch for Hilton. After getting to our rooms we got our family ready to go swimming! We got our 1 year old and 7 year ready to go, got down to the swim area and we saw a closed sign! How does this happen over the holidays?!? The rest of the stay was average at best. Fast forward to Christmas season 2014...we wanted to give this hotel a second shot, after all they had given us a $100 gift card to smooth over our last stay. Through the course of the week leading up to the stay my wife checked the website and even called for the status of the pool (a pool is a huge deal with little ones!) it said open! Cool, get the little ones all excited for the trip. Get back to Iowa, enjoy our family gathering and head up to the hotel. After my wife and I and now 8 and 2 year olds are dressed and excited to go swimming I call to front desk to confirm the pool is open before we make our trip down...front desk answers "sorry, it's closed due to ongoing maintenance issues they've had this week". Unbelievable. Have you ever tried telling a 2 year old and 8 year old they can't do something fun after you've been pumping then up for a week! Mix that with a 5 month pregnant wife on top of it all and, well I'm sure you get the picture. Absolutely bad deal all around. I unfortunately had to give this a 1 star for the above experiences, not to mention the R being out on the huge display at the top of the building overlooking Cedar Rapids, and novice front desk attendants. I will surely be getting on the phone with Hilton corporate first thing Monday detailing both of our unpleasant stays, and unfortunately for Hilton will be staying loyal to Marriott who we have always used in the past. read more

I'm grateful to the hotel for getting me into a room earlier than my original check in. And the room was nice. But my stay in tainted by the fact that I slipped and fell in the shower and roughed up my body from the fall. The bathtubs have no texture or anti-slip material on the floor. Thankfully I'm young and I fell in a way that avoided serious injury but if I had fallen slightly different I could have severely hurt myself. Or if I was an older woman! My body would be wrecked. PLEASE consider adding some sort of texture to the bottom of the bathtub/shower. read more

Best hotel to stay in Cedar Rapids! I come here 10 times per year and never had a problem in booking. In fact, the staff help to make sure a room is available for me. Train tracks less than a block away. blows whistle at all hours!! Hard to sleep. Otherwise clean and nice place! Nice hotel bar too.

The train comes by, every half hour overnight, directly beside the building. And they blow the train whistle for 5 minutes straight. There is no human being who can sleep through this. The only way I survived was with the room AC fan on High and earplugs in. So now I'm sleep-deprived after a 16 hour workday and need to walk into a client presentation this morning. If you're a high-cost hotel, I'm paying you for a place to rest: it's gametime for my client tomorrow morning and I need to be at my best. If you know that half your rooms are facing a fricken 150dB train whistle every half hour and you don't at least hand out earplugs and warn guests, you've decided profit is more important to you than treating people with basic human decency. read more

The air conditioning is so great my beer was still cold in the morning, even without a fridge :)

I took a trip with my mom, my 2 year old daughter and 3 of my nephews all under the age of 12 to my cousin's wedding. The wedding was taking place at The Hotel at Kirkwood which is a very posh and high end hotel with no type of breakfast options. Pricing starting at $139 a night. The rest of my family that traveled to come to the wedding had booked rooms there and so did we. When we arrived we learned that they had no pool and since we had never heard of the hotel we didn't know that it was not very "kid friendly". I immediately yelped other hotels to better accommodate us and found the Double Tree by Hilton and not only did they let us book a room at almost 12am they stayed on hold while we cancelled our reservations at the other hotel! We were offered the bed and breakfast package at $109 a night and they had a pool! When we arrived, we were greeted with excellent hospitality and that wonderful, delicious, warm cookie. The building was located in the downtown area so it was a high rise. We stayed on the 12th floor so we had a glorious view of the city. There was a wonderful restaurant on the 16th floor and the breakfast buffet they served everyday was no run of mill continental breakfast. They even had made to order omelets as an option as well. The kids had a blast in the pool and the cleanliness of the rooms were impeccable!!! The next time I have a hotel stay I will definitely choose Double Tree by Hilton as my first option!!!!! read more

I book hotels quite often for my law firm and this is one of the worst experiences I have had. I use hotels.com frequently, because they offer points and its easier for the attorneys that when they arrive the hotel is fully paid for and all they have to do is check in. I reserved 2 nights on accident, called hotels.com to correct but there was a problem with their website, they never called the hotel to tell them it would be 1 night and I explained to the hotel the issue, they never refunded the night and charged my attorney twice for the same night and cancelled his reservation because he did not show up the first night of his reservation, which is ridiculous to me since its completely paid for, what if weather delays prevented him from getting there the first evening, so they fully charged for two nights and kept all the money and cancelled his reservation, tried calling "Joel" the manager several times - no one ever calls me back, I will never book any attorney here to stay at any Doubletree ever, no one calls you back and you get the run-around, so my attorney got charged for 3 nights in which he only stayed one night - terrible. Only had 4 hours sleep, went directly to a business meeting and had to deal with this. Left 2-3 messages and not even their website will contact me to discuss or resolve. Sad thing is the clients wanted him to stay there, I would have never put my boss at this hotel had the clients not asked, maybe they will not have anyone stay there anymore because of this situation, I feel that they really ripped off my boss and made his business trip more tiresome and exhausting than it should have been. The fact that no-one has called at all to resolve is really a poor reflection of their customer service. The website is no better they just pass the buck and say its not their problem call the hotel directly, I get a voicemail never get anyone there, if I get the front desk they can't help me or talk to me or resolve anything. read more

The repetitive blowing of the train horns is absolutely awful. It's the only "nicer" hotel, that I'm familiar with, in the area. I'll stay in neighboring cities and commute from now on. I gave this hotel another chance, train horns were overwhelming last time too, but this will be the last. Other than the train, the hotel is great, but I need it for sleep only, so it kind of defeats the purpose. read more

Just tried to have some flowers sent to a guest staying at this hotel. I am appalled at how rudely I was treated after the automated calling system put me through to a woman in reservations who scolded me for not calling the front desk. When I asked if she could transfer me to the front desk, she simply placed me on hold without saying a word. The front desk was equally unhelpful and acted as if I was inconvenience to them, laughing at me when I said I was unsure of what time the guests would be checking in. Next time I am in Cedar Rapids, I will not be staying with double tree. Shame on your staff for being so rude to people looking to make your guests experience a little more enjoyable. read more

Price about normal for the area. Wifi a pain to hook to. $12 self park or $22 valet. Add on no continental breakfast, but I can buy one for $15. Add all those in and starting to think I got hosed. Anyone I have come in contact with I have asked them not to stay here. I was so excited to spend my anniversary at this hotel, after we arrived it because obvious that customer service was lacking. We wanted to valet park but we couldn't find a valet not could they apparently find us. We walked inside and it was absolutely beautiful. When we reached the desk the two people at the counter a man and women did not greet us, they continued to type and when they were done the women walked away and the man asked for my id. I didn't even know if this was the desk to check in at. I couldn't really understand him because he mumbled the whole time but finally he hands is a key card and tells us were the elevator was we went to the elevator and figured out which floor was ours because he didn't mention the floor number to us. It's the first digit or two just so you know. Then we got to our room I believe it was 1507 or something like that. It was beautiful but small. I then realized they didn't add the adjoining room on to our account. It was my husband myself and out three year old and only one bed, so I go back down and there is a new lady at the counter. I asked what happened to the room that has the bed that hooks to ours. She said she didn't see it in there. I asked for that room too and even said I'd pay the extra for it. Even though the sofa bed room already cost me $400.00 for one night. I asked he why is pay four hundred dollars for a room that doesn't have a real bed? She said "well that's room that has the bed is dirty" I told her the cleaning lady is on that floor and I'd really appreciate it if she could just pop over and clean it. She said "well yesterday was a really busy day for us and I think the cleaning crew will want stuff to do tomorrow". My mouth drops at this point; I had to get a pack n play for my daughter that I had trouble setting up considering it was well used. We had no sheets on the pull out bed as well as no memory foam pillows that we asked for before arriving. I was just disappointed in the service provided. I know everyone has a bad day but to literally tell me no I don't want to clean a room and take more money from you...seriously lady you should be fired. You can't run a business if you decline people's money! After everything was all said and done I can honestly say I'd never stay there again but I did enjoy their food that we had from room service as well as the pool that we got to enjoy by ourselves. Also I never revived my deposit back for the room which was $50.00 because I used my debit card. Not only did this place give me a bad taste in my mouth but I'm going to spend a week in Colorado in April and I refuse to stay at another hotel by Hilton. read more
