Yesterday seemed cursed for me when it came to eating out. After a disappointing lunch time I was hoping a curry with some newly engaged friends who were over from Spain would cheer me up. I was wrong.
Now I will add a disclaimer here - everyone else seemed happy with their meals, although like me they could have been keeping quiet and just focussing on the fact we were all together rather than the food.
The poppadoms were ok, normal if unexciting pickle tray but I have quite high standards now for interesting pickles so I was not blown away by theirs. Even the 'hot' option was more like a raspberry sauce, pleasant but we wanted a bit of heat. The red onion, mango and mint were very commercial but fine.
We had completely finished out poppadoms before they even took our food order which was not ideal. They did seem to get the mains out in a decent amount of time though. I'd asked for a recommendation between the two dishes I fancied and took the waiters advice. I had the chicken dish from the top of the specials menu that I wish I'd noted the name of properly now for this review.
My main was not very warm (temperature not spice) and not not very nice. Medium/hot spice but lacking in actual flavour although the chicken pieces in it were a good size and quality which some Indians do fall down on. The onion rice was good but my plain naan was cold which made it unpalatable.
Hungry other half (Dan F) ordered an extra mushroom rice half way through the meal and I found this very greasy and indefinitely wouldn't order it again.
Dan F is sitting next to me currently saying his main was really enjoyable so I'm adding that in but after we had such a good experience down the road in Hale at Coriander a few weeks ago I'd definitely go there instead. read more
