Tasha and Shasta are great horses!

Great ride today with Leah! She was great and the horses were so sweet. They are all rescue horses and I love the mission of the organization. Neither of us have ridden a horse in over 15 years and Leah did a great job of reading our level and comfort throughout the ride. It was amazing! Would highly recommend!

This was an experience of a lifetime. We got referred to Double Mountain through Skamania Lodge and I couldn't be happier that we did. It's so obvious that Margo is passionate about what she does and that these horses are so loved and taken care of. I've been riding horses for almost 20 years but my husband has been in the saddle probably 2 or 3 times. We BOTH felt extremely safe and got matched with horses good for our skill levels. The scenery is also absolutely breathtaking and the whole ride is very relaxing. If I ever find myself in the area again I will definitely be booking another trail ride.

It was a great ride. When we arrived the horses were saddled and ready to go and after some quick instruction we were off. We made our way through the rural areas by Hood River to a trail that wound through the forest always gaining elevation as we rode. The trail eventually opened up to an area high above the Columbia Gorge that provide a fantastic panoramic view. We stopped for refreshments and photos before descending down the trial eventually ending where we started. The added benefit of the Columbia Gorge ride is that it start and ends at Cathedral Ridge Winery. So, after the trail ride we did a tasting and enjoyed a glass wine at the vineyard. Now ever adventure has it pluses and minuses. The pluses again are your riding horses through some very scenic areas of Oregon; the downside, at least with this small party of four, is that we tended to be spread apart and could not always hear what guide was saying. The ride was definitely worth doing and I hope to be a repeat customer.

Where do I even start? Margo and her crew Cathy and Maria were amazing! We booked this horse riding adventure for a group of girls for a bachelorette weekend. We were not disappointed! Margo has such a wild personality and we had an absolute blast with her. When we arrived we got to pick out some cowgirl boots and a hat and then off to choose our horse! Some of us had ridden before and we had one first timer. The horses were all friendly and fun to ride. Margo took us on a guided tour through some orchards and down to the river where we tied our horses up and snapped some photos. We all can't wait to come back and do it all over again. Thank you Margo!

I love Double Mountain Horse Ranch!! I've been on many rides with them before, the most recent of which was last weekend to celebrate my birthday! My kids beg to go riding here every time we're in Hood River. You'll love their wranglers, horses, and the beautiful trail rides. A must do activity!!

Margo did talk a lot, but she and her daughter were nice and never questioned why I needed to wear a bandana.

It's worth every dollar....EVERY.DAMN.TIME!! Today we got the beef cheeks (deliciously tender and fatty), 2 types of smoked sausages, pork burnt ends, the BEEF RIB (to die for), and for sides we got Mac n cheese, and the brisket birria baked beans. About $120 all in. Nice being able to grab a few beers while we waited in line at Ruse Brewing. The food, grasslands bbq community, and the good vibes are really something special and worth the wait. We are blessed in the NW. 10/10 I'd recommend them to anyone visiting Oregon.

If you visit during wildflower season, it's even more beautiful with colorful wildflowers covering the fields. This trail is one of the few ADA accessible, which I really appreciate. While I do not use a wheelchair, I do have a disability and my legs can not handle the dirt and rock trails that are uneven. So having a paved path means that I can enjoy the gorgeous nature in this area. Wildflower season ranges from end of March to June, but every year is different based on the weather. This year (2022) was a very cold and rainy spring which delayed and prolonged the season. In April the hills were covered in yellow balsomroot and then blue lupine. End of May and heading into June, the next wave of flowers brings shades of blue from the delicate cornflowers with California poppies providing vibrant pops of orange Along the way. It's stunning! Wildflower season is my favorite season! Along the path there are many benches for those wanting to just relax and chill; some in the shade, some in the sun. There are also placards providing info on the area, the wildflowers, and the importance of pollination. The Catherine Creek paved trail is south of the parking area, which is a gravel section along Highway 8. Cross the street, the access is just past the porta potty. If you want the Catherine Creek Arch trail, it is on the same side as the parking, just head up the hill on the dirt trail. It's an easy 1.5 mile paved path that does have some declines and inclines as you make your way down, around, and then back up. If you head clockwise, you can see the creek to your left. If you decide to go off the paved path down to the creek, know there is a lot of poison oak and ticks. I stayed on the path, which is clear and well maintained. Note for wheelchair users - the path is wide and paved, but there are some areas where it slopes down and then makes it way back up. Another great thing about Catherine Creek Trail and Catherine Creek Arch Loop is that parking is free, no day pass required. The parking area is on the smaller side and on weekends, especially during wildflower time, it does get crowded. I went midweek and there was plenty of parking and I only came across two people on the path. Great for people of all ages and skills. For expert hikers, do the Catherine Arch first then finish with Catherine Creek.

There are trails on both sides of the Hwy...according to the trail map only two above 8 and one below within Catherine Creek, but another trail leads towards Coyote Wall. We only took one uphill loop this day. The trails are quite narrow and the footing mostly uneven and rocky. The views are stunning throughout, and the flowers are emerging. As the trails wind mostly through the open ridge there is almost no shade...sunblock sunblock! It's an enjoyable spot for a hike for sure, although for me not quite AS pretty as the nearby Labyrinth Trail. We will definitely return to complete the other trails...good times.

The setting of the campground is really pretty, and felt quite peaceful until dark. I'd noticed the sign on the info board warning of noise. But honestly I assumed it would be the normal passing train noise we always experience when staying along the gorge. But this location was something different...train whistles were sounded throughout the entire night. No sleep was to be had for me here. Regardless, we prepped to roam the trails that morning. While I didn't have big expectations when we started off along the river we really ended up enjoying the trails. The hillsides around the Deschutes provide a simply stunning landscape. There are multiple, parallel levels of trails from which to choose. We opted to take about 5 miles round trip, starting on the lowest trail and looping back via the next level up. The trails are narrow & winding, with uneven surfaces. On that sunny day it was very serene, with only the sounds of the river and birds. I wouldn't consider using the campground again, simply due to the train whistles. The sites weren't at all private, some level/some not...but all with nice river views. I would definitely recommend use of the trail system, however.
