Good food, bad service is my short summary. Once seated, it took about 15 mins till I flagged a hostess to take our order. Main course arrived first for a couple of us, then the appetizers. One order was incorrect, but we ate without complaining as it will take even longer for these people to fix it. Food was delicious. Damn.... This was the very first eatery I visited while in Victoria. The business can be found in a little shopping center near the downtown area's main roadways. The fact that it was entirely vegetarian and vegan compelled me to give it a try. I decided on the Marsala Dosa after perusing the menu extensively. I requested a tofu add-on so I could get some protein. I was completely uninterested in this specific choice. It gets 4.5/10 from me. Dosa Paragon has the best dosas and South Indian food in town! We got the vada to start. It was crispy and the sides were delicious especially the coconut chutney. We got the Mysore Masala Dosa and the Butter Paneer Dosas. What a delicacy! The paneer butter masala dosa was so sumptuous and full of depth and flavours. The Mysore Masala Dosas has a spicy kick to it but yet so flavourful and delicious. The service was excellent. The girl at the cashier was lovely and gave great recommendations. The ambiance is nice. It's located in a food court but nonetheless, they have tons of tables and one shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, this place is a little hidden gem. I highly recommend this spot if you're craving for some dosa or South Indian cuisine. I shall return again and try some other items off their menu. read more

Had gone to Victoria for two nights and saw this restaurant.. so the next day , had to try ... The Mysore masala was a bit too spicy for my husband but it tasted nice . Not a big fan of the vada, i think the batter was not fluffy . Went here with my mother and husband, we were on vacation from Oregon. The food was very delicious. The service was kind and attentive. Be aware that some things you see on their menu online are not available( really wanted to try the vegan rice pudding, but it was not available.), call first if you need to. I was very pleased that they had vegan chai, I can never find that anywhere . All in all a wonderful experience, I will say, though it is an absolute nightmare to park in that area , so plan ahead! Also for those that have walking issues like me there is a long flight of stairs to go down into the restaurant, So definitely not wheelchair accessible which is sad :( read more

Dosa is a well kept secret by flavourful food lovers. We can't get enough of it! The staff are extremely courteous and serve you with a genuine happinness. Most locals like to order to go or have it delivered, so don't be surprised if not all seats are full. Last time we had the butter chicken, chicken curry (no bones!) with rice, and a plain Dosa. We got some great sauce and chutney with our meal! The flavours were great! I like spicy and they gave me just the right amount of heat to enjoy the food (medium-hot). But they easily can accommodate to much milder spice levels. For those who are wondering where it is, it is inside a little strip mall/halley off Yate. This place is an insult to South Indian food, Dosa. Food was horrible, served cold and. Onion Masala dosa were served with uncooked Onion. Sambhar and masala were cold. Onion were not cooked along with the dosa. There were simply dumped on the top of cooked dosa. This is not the way to prepared onion dosa. I stumbled on this place on my last day visiting Victoria, and saw their sandwich board on the sidewalk. I was about to see a movie across the street, but I walked in to see if it was worthwhile to visit after the movie (as well as to check if they were open). The owner mentioned they had just opened in July, and that they'd be open after my movie. I stopped in to get a smaller dish - I have tried a handful of South Indian offerings from places in the Seattle area, so I was relatively familiar with the menu items. Their website has a glossary to understand the menu; however, the menu at the storefront itself is relatively nondescript and written on a whiteboard (which I liked). However... as I as waiting for my order, I noticed several others passing through, looking at the menu, and not understanding what the items were. You will not find tikka masala here as in a typical North American, North Indian restaurant, but you will find many more delicious and home-cooked items. In my case, I got Vada Sambar. The whole operation was very well done and feels family-run. My order came within a few minutes and it was delicious. The person I believe to be the owner stopped by and brought utensils and napkins (this is a casual eatery), which was appreciated. The food itself was very good - a mix of fresh and cooked vegetables; a subtle blend of spices which together had a very savory taste; and a spiciness that wasn't overpowering but was noticeable. The owner came by to each table to ask how people were liking their food, and it felt very genuine. The service was good and they seemed dedicated to making sure customers are happy with their experience (often, into new culinary horizons). My only suggestion (though it didn't affect my experience) would be to provide some sort of dictionary for customers who are unfamiliar with South Indian food. For example, the person next to me asked what I got (she seemed interested in getting it as well), and I didn't know exactly how to define a "vada". I hope they do well. tl;dr: For a place that has 'dosa' in its name, the dosas were mediocre at best. We arrived with high expectations, having read reviews about the food.We were in the mood for dosas and ordered crisp ghee cone dosas for the kids, and the South Indian combo (mini uttapam, masala dosa, vada, idli, and dessert - served with sambar, red chutney, coconut chutney and gun powder/podi). The masala dosa seemed to have been cooked in a hurry, with the edges undercooked. The masala was almost non existent, even for a mini masala dosa. The uttapam was the better offerings in the combo. The dessert was a joke - the tiniest cup of payasam). We also ordered Malabar parrotas, which were underwhelming (perhaps it was just us expecting more from a restaurant run by folks from Kerala). The idli was reheated and had a dry crust. On the positive side, we enjoyed the chettinad chicken curry. The vadas were made fresh, and crisp. Also, the servers were pleasant and attentive. They checked in on us often and asked if we needed extra sambar (which we did). The location was great, a short 10 min walk from the Empress. So, it's Boxing Day, and being from the states I have no appreciation for this important Canadian holiday. Shopping is a go, eating out is harder to find unless it's a chain. We're visiting and driving around to find a non-chain restaurant that was open and we're all getting Hangry... we wander into a closed strip mall to find a restroom and pass Dosa Pragon... open, tables full of people and an amazing smell of spices... we were sold. After a short wait we had made to order food that was just incredible. A bit more spicy than I'm used to but so worth the burn of delicious flavor. All amazing and our 3&5 yr olds devoured anything not touching the spice. A total win for everyone. We're it not holidays I'd try the Indian coffee. I have been looking for a South Indian Restaurant for a while now. Dosa paragon recently opened here in Victoria and it is lip smacking good. I ordered a plain dosa and vada.. they come with coconut chutney, some other chutney, and sambal sauce which is basically yellow lentils paste( I think). The sauces were amazing.. the dosa hit the spot for me.. the vada by itself tasted ok but when soaked in the sambal sauce, it tastes so amazing. I'll definitely be back. read more

A hidden gem! Heard about this place from a couple of co-workers and we finally got to try it out today. Had the South Indian Combo which comprised four different breads (idly, dosa, vasa and uppthappam), two chutneys, dal soup and a miniature rice pudding. Friend had the butter chicken dosa.
