Very pleased with what I found at Dosa Express, hidden in the building that still houses College Pizza. I guess management decided it would be a good idea to bring the dosa market to state college. In a town with two indian options, neither of which serve dosas, it was a great choice. Ordered the Paneer Masala Dosa, which was served HOT (despite the below review...) and full of flavor. Great potion size for a great price. The size of the dosa and the fullness you feel afterwards are in no way proportionate, but i still left content with my lunch choice read more

Surprised at the low ratings this place has. We landed up trying out the other Indian restaurants while at State College, but after their lackluster buffet, decided to give this one a try too. We were a party of 5 - ordered chicken biryanis and samosas, and everything was really tasty and fresh. Staff was really nice too, service was attentive and they had outdoor seating. Wish we had come here earlier- am glad my daughter has finally found a good Indian place to go! She will be back to try the dosas :-) read more

This is a very enjoyable vegetarian place to eat. I have enjoyed many lunches at this place. They have meat dishes, but I have not bothered to try them. Southern Indian food is not common to find in Central PA, so I enjoy it when I can and eat vegetarian. You can get a tasty and filling Masla Dosa for $6, what is everyone complaining about? It is located in place that spends many of its business hours selling pizza slices to drunk college students. So no, it is not the fanciest place to eat at, but for the price I won't complain. Also, don't be a hermit, go to the place and eat your food at the restaurant when it is fresh and hot from the kitchen. read more

She claimed they were. And when I received the dosa, I could clearly tell it was reheated. The curry inside was the same one that is used in samosas. For those of you who may not know, dosas taste very different. Anyways, I tried the green chutney, and it was stale. Yep, not bad, not badly cooked, it was stale. The coconut in it had gone very rancid and it tasted like something at least a week old. The sambar had a few shreds of onions, two slices of carrots, way too much of salt, and turmeric. Nothing else. No lentils, no spices, no tamarind. The moment when you see a drunk people pizza place located in the basement of a building, also serving dosas, you need to seriously question their quality. They certainly didn't heat the food up fully with microwave. I ordered one lamb curry and one lamb curry with rice. They gave me two lamb curry with rice, each with no more than five pieces of medium sized lamb in it. And it does not tastes good at all. Even supermarket commercial curry cam perform better than that. Don't let them full you around. read more

We had very good vegetarian dosas and samosas. The restaurant is a bit funky-- it doesn't appear set up for dine-in customers as it mostly caters to take out. And, I was skeptical of the combined NY pizza/ South Indian cuisine. That said, the Indian food was excellent and we will definitely return. read more

While the food tastes good, the environment is not great. Additionally, the menu is not extensive and has only a few items. The restaurant is located alongside college pizza (i.e. both restaurants serve patrons in the same sitting space). Food served in plastic plates and service is not exceptional. Fairly priced. Nasty and appalling customer service. Last night our food was delivered in a timely manner but one item was missing from the three items that we ordered from the menu. I referred to my receipt and immediately called Dosa Express and was transferred to a man that apparently managed the food orders. I explained the item that was missing from our order, and asked to simply credit/refund the price of the missing item back to my credit card. He did not acknowledge my request for the refund. Here's the appalling part. Instead, the man repeatedly asked if I received an order of chicken tikka along with our order, to which I repeatedly, answered 'no'. This is after going over the two items we received and verified again that no chicken tikka was included nor mistaken for any of the items we received. Told him to look for his chicken tikka elsewhere and to stop asking, and to just credit the refund to my card. And, very quickly, he became hostile and loud accusing me of lying about not receiving his chicken tikka. I tried asking for his name and to speak to the owner/manager but at that point he was too far gone to hear me as he continued ranting on with blustering nonsense about his chicken tikka. I had him on speaker during the painful 7 minute call, and we were shocked by his behavior. Eventually, I had to hang up because it was almost pitiful listening to a man who went ape-shit over his missing chicken tikka. read more

My hubby and I LOVE the food here. Some of our favorites include Masala Dosa, Chole Bature, Samosa Chaat and Biryani. All delicious. The Paneer Chili Pizza wasn't too bad either! Don't bother with this place. Where do I begin? (i) Went to the place and ordered Masala Dosa and Onion-tomato-peas Uttappam to take home. I waited for 50 minutes for the order, yes, 50 minutes. It was not like the place was bustling with people. After 30 min, I inquired about the order and was assured that the order would be ready in 3 more minutes; took another 20 min. That's an hour of my life I am not getting back. (ii) This is not a place one could go with a girlfriend or family; there was loud music with the f-word galore in the lyrics. Even the employees of College Pizza (this is a combined College Pizza and Dosa Express setup) were freely using the f-word loudly. (iii) It is the worst Onion Uttappam I ever had. The Uttappam was broken into pieces as if it was made by a 6 year old for the first time. The Uttappam batter was not sufficiently fermented. Adding too many toppings (tomatoes, onions, peas) made the batter partly uncooked. They seem to have forgotten to add salt to the batter. (iv) Masala Dosa was below average; the potato filling was bland and lacked flavor. (v) They literally butchered Sambar and Chutney; Sambar was too sour; chutney felt like water. Fail grade for both. Waste of money and time. I will never go back there. These guys should seriously watch some Youtube videos on how to make dosa and uttappam. Seriously. read more

I wasn't expecting much when I ordered from Dosa Express but didn't think it would be this bad. I ordered parathas from here and they were extremely bad. The description said that the parathas have 'paneer' and 'potatoes' inside but there was there was nothing inside it. The parathas were completely uncooked and I felt like I was eating raw dough. I love Indian food and have had a lot of it but this was the most disgusting food I have ever had. The place itself is also very dirty and unhygienic. I would suggest avoiding this place at all costs. read more
