I brought my mom who grew up in SLP. The first thing we noticed was the outline of the state of San Luis Potosí on the menu. The owner, Norma, was super friendly and spoke with us about her heritage. We had enchiladas potosinas and tacos rojos, these are authentic dishes that can't be found anywhere else in Nashville! All of the food is made from scratch, we heard the mole is made daily, don't miss weekends for pozole and menudo which are special menu items. Decided to spend the week over at the lake and found this spot about 2 miles from our RV park. It was ridiculously good. In an area completely rich in different Mexican options this place absolutely stands far out in front of others. First, we ordered more food than God intended. But might as well sample the menu while you sit waterfront at a lake built by the corps of engineers...Murica. Second, all of it was delicious. I think the gorditas stood out above everything else. They were killer. The tacos were also good, but all the other stuff was next level. The surprise "wow" factor were the barbacoa fries. Not traditional Mexican fare, but hot damn they were amazing. LOL Of course the staff spoke some English. We got the guacamole and fresh, HOT, homemade chips. Phenomenal. I got the flautas dish, and they were the best flautas I've had in a long time. I decided I NEEDED gorditas! As a misplaced Texan I realize that is difficult here. The struggle is real. I googled gorditas and found this spot. Man, I'm so happy I did! Hubs and I went today and the small restaurant was fillled to capacity. We got a table and placed our order. He got a gordita and two tacos all with carnitas. I got a barbacoa gordita and two lengua tacos. Food is cooked to order so there is a short wait. Whilst waiting for our main dishes we were treated to chips and salsa both freshly made. And when I say fresh I mean the chips were from in-house made tortillas and delivered to us piping hot. Sublime! Late lunch arrives and come with two bottles of sauces. Our server told us one was quite hot and she wasn't joking. But it was so tasty and I'll use it in simple micro dots. The gorditas now have my heart. The barbacoa was melt in the mouth perfection as was the lengua. And mind you, the tortillas were crisped to hold up to the filling. No limp biscuit here. Forgot to mention we also ordered a side of guacamole.... Oh my stars! Chunky, with pieces of tomato and cilantro! Divine! Go support these two brothers from SLP! You will not be disappointed. Everything is made fresh, pretty much right in front of you as their kitchen area can be seen from the dining area. Some of the best chips and salsa I've ever had. The enchiladas potosinas are absolutely amazing. A must try. The rice and beans are really really good. I really like the beans but sometimes I just need to add a touch more salt, no big deal. The mole they make is really good, highly suggested. Chips come out nice and hot with some decent salsa and 2 side salsas to add heat. I eat a lot of Mexican and the food here is just different in a good way. They make the tortillas when you order your food and play good music. It's on a small building next to a mini-mart and a dollar general, and you're greeted by a sign saying no public restrooms...but do not let any of that stop you from experiencing some of the best street tacos in Nashville. The atmosphere inside is hip and surprisingly nice and the food is easily 10 out of 10!!! I amba huge fan of tacos al pastor, and Dos Carnales has the best I've ever had.
