On St. Patrick's day, sun shining and town bulging, we headed for Ranelagh. After walking into and back out of town to get there we were fairly ready to eat!
I spotted Door 51, a new addition to Ranelagh village, and we popped in to see if they had room for us but they did not. We wandered down the road a little, only to be turned away in one restaurant and to turn away from another.
So back to Door 51 to see if anyone had left to make room for us and they had! A table for two sitting there, waiting to be wiped down and made ready for us.
The menu was an expected selection of café fare. Breakfast items from fruit & muesli, through pancakes, to a full Irish. Lunch options included paninis, club sandwiches, steak sandwiches and other things I can't recall but had me saying "we're coming back" so I could try them.
Two club sandwiches with chips, a coke and a diet coke ordered and I was eyeing up the cupcakes, deciding which one to have afterwards. As well as cupcakes (green, chocolate and oreo flavoured) they had caramel slices, carrot cake and other treats.
Unfortunately someone had similar ideas and the oreo cupcake I had chosen was gone before I got to order it, but I was fairly satisfied with my lot anyway and went for a cappuccino instead for a sweet kick and it hit the spot nicely.
Really nice little spot, good food, very pleasant service (though I don't think they expected to be as busy as they were on the day) and I will definitely be back. read more
