Service was great! There were six of us and had lots of requests but our server was very patient. The place is cute, a long bar to the left and tables to the right. Nothing fancy but a cool sports bar. The food lacked flavor. I ordered a French dip and the meat was extremely dry and cheese was extra! My friend ordered Philly cheesesteak nachos and they had a really strange smoky flavor that seemed unusual. Others ordered burgers and said they were just okay. This used to be my go to place when traveling through North Wilkesboro. Food was incredible! However, that is no longer the case. My wife and I ate there Sunday for lunch. We were not impressed. She had the meat loaf special and I ordered the French dip. My sandwich came out with no cheese on it. They had to take it off the bill. We decided to give them another try on the way back through to give them a second chance since this was our first bad experience. Stopped in on Tuesday night. My wife had the chicken taco special and I ordered the club sandwich with their famous homemade hand cut french fries. My wife said the chicken on the tacos tasted warmed over and without much flavor. She said the tacos were "missing something". I suggested that she pour some salsa on it to make it taste better. My club sandwich was OK even though they went a little heavy on the mustard. My issue was with the french fries. They came out cold like they had been sitting around for 45 minutes or so. I explained to my waitress that the fries were cold and she quickly offered to have them cook me some more. Take a look at the picture and you be the judge. Guess which batch came out first and which batch came out second. The second batch was nearly burnt and inedible. They were tough and tasted as if they were part of the original leftover batch that had been thrown back into the fryer to warm up. Since they were inedible, they took the French fries off the bill. We wasted time and money in an attempt to have a good meal. The next time we go through North Wilkesboro, we will not be eating at Dooley's. read more

We were part of a large group event. So we served the stuffed chicken with sauce. It came with green beans and a roast beef with veggies. It was delicious ! The food was served at the right temperature by friendly staff. Considering there were at least 40 of us to try and serve at once. I was able to talk with the owner/ chef. Man I had high hopes for this place! Decided to go on a drive through the Blue Ridge and somehow ended up on Wilkesboro. While in the area we decided to try Dooleys based on the high rating. This review is specific to their burgers as we both had a burger. I also had a beer... they had a decent selection, however mine was in a bottle although it didn't say anywhere if they were bottled or draft. Maybe they don't have draft, we sat outside so not sure. We went with the burgers as you usually can't go wrong. I've had burgers at a lot of places and they have always been pretty good to great. The burgers take up a large portion of the menu and they say they make them in house etc. Now... maybe they do have the best ingredients, I don't know, but it was the most flavorless burger I've had in a long time. No seasoning at all on that meat and the meat is very lean so no flavor from fat or anything. I ordered mine medium but it was very well done which did not help. I like a nice chargrill on my burger or a nice crust like some places do on the flat top. This unfortunately had neither. It was just a bland, dry patty. To add insult to injury the burgers we had were like $14 each! Fries were decent, but a bit soggy. Sorry but I can get a better burger literally anywhere for half the price. Service was good although the burgers did take a long time to come out. Our server was always checking in on us making sure we didn't need anything. Maybe their other items are better, but if you can't make a decent burger... I don't know if I can chance it again. read more

Dooley's is a hidden gem in the historic Smithey Hotel building in downtown Wilkesboro, right next to the courthouse. pet friendly, with outdoor seating. Can highly recommend the "Hangman's Rare Roast Beef Sandwich" (get the small one, or else you'll end up taking half of it home). Also, the Good Gold Draft beer is excellent (careful, because it's about 8% ABV). My dog Gracie got lots of attention from other customers and the staff. Our waitress, Brittany, was charming and efficient. Highly recommend this place! read more

If you are driving through and starving might I suggest a large cheeseburger, Carolina style with chili, mustard and onion? Had the best experience here! We were camping nearby and came into town with our dog--who is friendly but BIG. They were very accommodating and made sure to seat us separately from others to not cause any problems for us or others eating outside! The wait staff were very friendly and quick. I went into Dooleys and ordered 2 double titos bloody Mary's. They tasted like water so I asked my server to check they were doubles. She came back and said they were. I had taken 2 sips of my drink and said then please take them back, have your manager take them off the bill please and I'll order something else. The server took away the drinks. Then a very rude and unprofessional woman came to my table and said she was the manager and the bartender and that those drinks were good! I asked her to try them because they weren't. We have dined there three times in the past year. Neat place and really good food, lots of options. However, all three times we have had to wait forever for service and food. Our latest time, our waitress was having to cover a large party in the back inside part and several tables outside, makes no sense at all. Servers are spread way too thin and all over the place. What a fantastic find on our way to "Back of the Dragon" in Marion, VA. We were on motorcycles and took the local roads from Charlotte, NC that took us through Wilkesboro, NC. This is about the half-way point so why not open yelp and look for a good lunch spot. Dooleys does not disappoint. They make their burger patties in-house to order and cook it per your desired temperature. You can chose between 1/4, 1/2 or 1lbs!!!!! They have pretty fun burgers and we decided on the Mac&Cheese burger as well as the Blue-Cheese & mushroom burgers. I really enjoyed my Blue-cheese and mushroom burger. seasoned well and the melted blue cheese was just all the sauce I needed. Their house-cut seasoned fries were bomb! I think I even ate all of hubs' fries. He had the mac & cheese burger and even though it sounded like a tasty combo, it was a bit much for his tastebuds. He enjoyed the beef patty and kinda brushed of the mac n cheese to eat both separately. He didn't realize it was a heaping serving of mac that he'd get. Individually he liked it, but together was a bit much in his opinion. Staff was friendly, service was quick - there is a warning on the menu that the burgers may take longer as they grind their meat in-house, but I didn't even notice the time that passed. I used the bathroom here and it was very clean. Cool little thing we noticed in their logo was a hanging tree, which first we thought was kinda "dark" to say the least......BUT upon looking around the interior more, we saw that it actually has a significant history. There used to be a hanging tree located in front of the public square and that yes historically people were hanged. so after our lunch we walked around a bit to find it - only to learn that it was taken down. We got the pimento cheese dip with home made potato chips for an appetizer. My husband got the veggie melt with a fried egg. Well I wasn't sure what to expect but I'm glad we stopped. I'd say this was a 3.5 star for food and 5 star for service. I have to start by saying we like burgers and this wasn't on our top ten list or anything but it's a good place for a meal. The atmosphere is laid back and the employees are so friendly. Our waitress was new but was amazing! I wish I could remember her name. :( She was very very patient as our party of six changed the order a couple times. She answered all our questions with a smile. She kept the glasses full and checked on us regularly. She definitely made this a good visit. On to the food... the menu had plenty of options for everyone. The kids meals were good, the ham and Swiss came out as a sandwich and not a slider so it was bigger than expected. I don't know if this is normal or not but I'm not complaining. The kids chicken came out with four pieces of boneless chicken and they were closer to a popcorn chicken than a boneless wing so it wasn't as filling as the ham and Swiss but ok for kids with smaller appetites. I ordered the jalapeño stuffed burger. The presentation was good and the portion sizes were good. The patties were big but kind of bland on all three of the burgers we ordered. The fries were good, the mac and cheese was good, and the potato salad was ok.
