We have been coming here for years and it has always been great. The donuts are high quality and really tasty and reasonable in price. The service is always friendly and we enjoy talking with them and seeing them. My father loved this establishment with its casual atmosphere and great donuts. He came very often when he worked on our house building in the mid 80s. My daughter and her children really enjoy the donuts and look forward to having them whenever they visit. When nostalgia knocks on your door. It doesn't mean you have to answer. It has been about ten years since I have stopped a donut works. Grew up in Novato so I know this place well. The donuts use to be great and at a great value. It did make me smile a little when I walked in and the place hasn't changed. Same seats same booths. But what has changed I believe is the ownership. I walked in on my way to work wanting a good old donut works donut. That's where is all ended. First I asked for a maple bar filled and was met with was a slight rudeness. That they don't fill the maple bars. So I asked for a chocolate bar filled. And the girl and the old man behind the case both said we don't fill bars. Never have. I was a little shocked at that because, first of all, what donut shop doesn't fill a bar donut? Apparently this one. They fill the rounds but not the bars? How much more trouble is it to fill a bar vs a round? And to say we have never filled the bars is a little presumptuous because maybe they don't since they bought the place but I know they have I the past. It's my regular donut order. That and a maple old fashion. I ended up just buying the maple old fashion and that was a mistake too. I should have just walked out when they said they don't fill the bar donuts. The old fashion tasted like the oil hasn't been changed and it also tasted stale. The maple flavor was barely there also. With the attitude behind the counter and the horrible tasting donuts I guess my donut works is gone. Definitely not going to return here. Donut works is going to stay as a happy memory and not what ever is has become. I should have kept driving. read more

OPEN AT 7AM SUNDAY per cashier. OMG, donuts and croissants so fresh made inside of car smell delicious. Go get some. They are requesting a call ahead order for quantities over 6. These freeze very well. Yummy! read more

Clean friendly and delicious! Have driven past a million times. Finally stopped in for a quick breakfast before having a girls morning. Cash only. Good thing I had $10 on me and was able to get two donuts and two drinks with change to spare. Donuts were fresh and delicious. The staff greeted us as soon as we walked in the door. The small dinning area was clean (a little outdated but clean). Great little spot. Just wish parking was a little less hazardous (backing out into traffic a bit blindly). read more

If you want to say "thank you" or "I love you" or show any other kind of sign of appreciation- this is your spot. I was indebted to a fellow parent for watching my daughter at the last minute and picked up a big box of donuts from here to say, THANK YOU! The location is very clean and has a very nostalgic feel to it. I get the sense nothing has changed in about 30 or 40 years and that's actually a good thing in this case! We ordered about one of everything and all the kids loved them. I also noticed some very large, golden croissants that called my name for the next visit. Delicious consistent and not $7 donuts for daily consumption! Donut works has been a staple for me since moving to Novato. It's open 7 days a week and they do sell out so their closing times vary. They open at 630 I think, sometimes if you get there early for a few to bring to work you will see your neighbor (small town feel). They have all the assorted donuts plus holes. Donuts are .85 and up and I think the most expensive is 1.50. They make yummy croissant sandwiches and have drinks and coffee for sale too. I usually get a chocolate old fashioned, when I was a kid it was always a raised glazed and sometimes I get one but usually it's the old fashioned. They are dense and light at the same time, not wildly sugary and just the right size. My kids get a long John and usually the apple fritter, side note the apple fritter is huge and studded with apples you should try it. Holes are sold for .15 but you should get a dozen as they give you 13. They are the two to three bite kind and so fresh. This is also owned by a family who owns the other donut works in the Square but I like this one better. I don't know why, the other one has those stools that swing when you sit on them, but this one is my fav. Go here and try them out, way better than any other donut place in the north bay. read more
