Always have great donuts, reasonably priced. Make sure you get there early on weekends if you're looking for a specific donut!

Fried rice was yellow rice with some onions, very sad rice with no flavor at all. Hardly traditional fried rice. Was given a 25 minute estimate. Got there at 20 minutes and waited almost 30 more for my order. The huge tub of brown gravy they give you is ridiculously large for the amount needed for the entree and scalding hot temperature. The container it comes in has a lid that is impossible to remove without spilling the full sauce all over. There are no sauce packets out for you to grab like most Chinese take out places have and when the bag was handed to me all sealed up I assumed (wrongly) that they had thrown some sauces in. My bad for assuming. They did throw fortune cookies in. Ugly: The General Tso chicken was inedible. The unrecognizable chunks of "chicken" were so stringy and tough and full of cartridge more than half of them could not be eaten and had to be spit out. The sauce also had no heat (menu shows a spicy symbol) and really no flavor like traditional General Chicken you would expect. Our total order exceeded the amount ($21 before tax) listed on the menu for 3 free crab rangoon which I asked for when I ordered. When I got there they charged me for the rangoon but I didn't notice that until I got home. This is our 3rd disappointing visit in a row. I realize it's the only Chinese in town and everyone in Bethalto loves it but it's really sad that it doesn't live up to the hype.

You order at the counter, if you need a beverage you select it from a cooler. Once you order, you select your seat at one of the many vintage table and chairs in the fairly large dining room. When your food is ready, they'll bring it out to you. Hope you're hungry, because you'll be amazed at the healthy portions. They're just like how your grandma would have filled your plate. There's a variety of different daily specials, or you can order from the standard menu. My recent visit, I went with the Homestyle Meatloaf with a side of Green Beans and a second side of, Mashed Potatoes with Brown Gravy. Yum! Potatoes were roughly smashed with skins on, making it obvious that they were made from scratch. The green beans could have had some more black pepper, but that's on me. I'm a black pepper, junkie. It's my favorite spice. The ambiance is eclectic and the fresh cut flowers on the tables are a nice touch. I hate fake flowers on a dining table, it's tacky in my opinion. If you're craving a home cooked meal head on over to, Food A Fare. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Oh, I forgot to mention, the husband and wife team are super personable and friendly.

Yippie, I have another breakfast restaurant close to home. I can easily make breakfast at home, but…read morethere is just something about having a BIG hearty breakfast at a restaurant. It's one of my favorite things to do, since I have retired. Frank's has only been open for two days and after my first visit, I already know I will be returning. For my first visit, I enjoyed their, Half Biscuits and Gravy Meal. It came with; 2 eggs, 2 bacon strips, 2 sausage links, hash browns and a half order of biscuits and gravy. OMG, it was a hearty breakfast. The hash browns were super crispy and the biscuit was good and fluffy. Most diners, over salt the food, but not here. The breakfast items were seasoned well. I am a pepper freak, so I did add pepper to the gravy and on top of my eggs. I enjoyed a good of strong black coffee with my meal. For me, I it was a nice touch that they brought a glass of ice water without having to request it. The service was friendly and attentive. As I dined at the counter, I noticed that the servers greeted every guest as they entered the restaurant. They even said, good-bye as guest left the restaurant. The ambiance is simple, it is very plain Jane. So don't expect anything fancy. You're coming for hearty comfort food and that is what you'll get. So, if you enjoy having breakfast out as much as I do, I recommend Frank's be your next one out.
