If you are looking for a solid donut and world class coffee, then you need to visit Donut Central. They a have a large selection of donuts to chose from and this morning, I choose a plain yeast donut and a raspberry filled Bismarck donut. I also grabbed a large coffee to wash them down, on my way home from working in Columbus this week. Donut Central is in a nondescript building that looks like it might have been a grocery store in a previous life. The front of the building is lined with an assortment of businesses and Donut Central is around the corner towards the back side of the building. They have plenty of parking. Opening at 5:30, you can stop in and grab a quick bite on your way to work, no matter how early you need to be at work. There are a few tables inside, and there is a definite 80's retro vibe with the color choices. They have a large display case where you can peruse the donuts and make your choice.When I went in, they weren't busy so I was in and out in just a few minutes. I expect they can get busy so you might have to wait a few minutes. As I was driving home, I grabbed the yeast donut out of the bag and took a bite. The donut was light, fluffy, and yeasty. Just like you would expect. All in all, a decent donut. It wasn't the best I have ever had, but it was a far cry better than most. I decided to save the Bismarck till later and started in on my coffee. Taking that first sip and I knew we had a winner. A dark, deep, slightly acidic, and flavorful liquid was contained in that cup and I was a happy camper. Too many places serve cheap coffee that has been ground for months, lost all of its flavor, and as a burnt quality to it because it has sat on the burner for too long. It wasn't until this evening, as I was sitting down to write this review that I dug in to the Biskmarck. I realize it was several hours after I purchased the donuts but I have to say I was a bit disappointed with it. I made the mistake of inhaling with that first bite and ingested a cloud of powdered sugar. The powdered sugar was overly plentiful and had to be scraped off. Now remember, this is a raspberry filled Bismarck so I was expecting raspberry jam. It is there and it is plentiful but I had to eat half of the donut to find it. The next time I am in Columbus and have time to stop at Donut Central, I think I will stick to the yeast donut, and try something else. The Bismarck wasn't bad, it just wasn't for me. Overall, it is the coffee that will get me to come back. I'll have to experiment with their other donut selections and try to find something that hits like the coffee does. Donut Central is a nice place. They make decent donuts. They have GREAT coffee. You should give Donut Central a try. read more

I have never tried boba tea- it's an experience for sure, but very tasty! These donuts are perfect!! There is nothing worse than getting a filled donut & there is not a lot of filling. Very homey feel. Chalkboards have what is in their cases divided up into types and flavors. Cases were also labeled in front of the pastries. The young man who waited on us was extremely friendly and helpful. It was a pleasant experience. We enjoyed the selections. They were very good. I was particularly impressed by the strawberry filling. This was "strawberry preserves" quality filling with identifiable strawberries and seeds and everything. They have strange hours so check it out. There is a lot of seating inside and coffee is available too. I have heard you need to go early to get the best selection, but we had plenty of choices available at 930 am Perhaps the best recommendation though was from a person with diabetes. I enjoyed all three types of donuts I picked up here. I like to pick a variety of tastes and was pleased with the available selections. They had a raspberry bismark with powdered sugar which I really preferred to a super sweet icing some places have. I also ordered a cinnamon roll which had good size, had a satisfying bite and used an icing glaze, but not overwhelmingly sweet. My favorite was another bismark that had peanut butter cream inside, a chocolate dipped bottom that gave a crisp break (like on a frosted ice cream cone). The top had another soft layer of chocolate to hold the chopped peanuts on. Wow! The shop is a little hard to find for first timers. Although the address says it is on Central, the shop is located on the southwest corner of the building so it is easier to get to via Cottage Avenue or 14th St. There is plenty of free parking. Inside, there is a large dining area and nice, clean restrooms. The order counter and display is on your right. Tucked away in a corner by the counter is the coffee station. I don't think they offer as many drink options as a coffee house, but it is nice that they at least have the basics covered since coffee is such a great way to clear the accumulating sweet taste you get from eating more than one donut. The strawberry cheesecake one looks like perfection and has cheesecake filling, which I've never had in a donut. It was SO GOOD! I also had a peanut butter cup donut which had - you guessed it - peanut butter filling! It also had chocolate on the bottom and now I'm wondering why all donuts aren't dipped in chocolate on both sides?! The reason I even found this place is because my friend and I were looking for nitro cold brew coffee (and didn't want to go to Starbucks for it). DC has nitro cold brew on tap that is DELICIOUS. I've been to other shops that allegedly had nitro cold brew but ended up just being poured out of a can which I'm not a fan of. They just opened, so this is a review of a burgeoning location. GOING WELL: The donuts are just pleasant; there's a variety of flavors and it looks as though they'll have rotating specialty donuts, but the current list will cover your donut needs for sure. The only "disappointment" is that the Nutella Bismarck is not filled (just seems like a thing you should know), but other than that, the donuts reflect a respectable price point for boutique donuts. The environment is pastel and limited for indoor seating, but is reasonably sized with room to expand to outdoor seating in warmer months. Staff is friendly and attentive. Also, to bury the lead, NITRO COLD BREW IN TAP. That's really all you coffee lovers need to know. NEEDS IMPROVEMENT: Small things that will get better in time, I think and hope. I'd like to see a large order ahead of time situation, the staff, while friendly and courteous, is still making new store errors (I ordered a large Nitro cold brew and got a small; not knowing how to do tax exempt orders; not filling filled donuts, and a variety of other small things I've seen or experienced). They've always been quick to correct what has been pointed out, so that's a positive. Also in need of attention is the parking lot situation - they share a lot with a few other store fronts, but it also seems to be a place where truckers "drop" their trailers, which means that sometimes rows are blocked from exits and the like. Once that's negotiated or figured out, all the parking woes disappear. Finally, this is most definitely a space designed for women to linger in - the pastels and chalk pain and stylized denial writing on the walls is all well done, but clearly with an eye to female patrons. All in all, well worth the trip and cost - you're signing up for a wait at this point as all of Columbus is trying to see if this is going to be their go to for their donut needs, but use the time to watch them make donuts in the window. 4 stars instead of five because of the aforementioned minor issues, but I'll re-evaluate in a month or two! read more

I have been here a few times. As far as donuts go they make a pretty good donut! The selection is good but if you want s sour cream cake donut they don't make them. I only gave it four stars because their coffee is awful. I have had it a couple times over the past couple years and it's bad. It tastes burnt. They do have decaf and while I have never had their mixed coffees- lattes and such, their hot chocolate is equally awful in that its weak tasting- I suppose they put too much water in their powder mix- not worth the money. This place is adorable! Is it pricey? Absolutely, if I just want a basic donut and coffee I go somewhere else HOWEVER, their specialty donuts are worth the occasional splurge! I have tried quite a few of them, my favorites being the Nutella, the peanut butter chocolate, the chocolate covered strawberry and any/all of the cinnamon. I'm not a huge fan of the coffee or the nitros, I'm sure they are quality drinks but I did not like them--and I'm a coffee girl! Oh well. The location is adorable, a little hidden if you don't know where to look but, worth the effort to find it. They did an excellent job with the decor, if my toddler wasn't a wild child I would stay inside more often. Seating is limited but, at least from my experience, that isn't an issue.
