Horrible service did terrible welds used a smaller pipe than the original to connect two pipes that don't even fit. don't take your car here waste of time. Blamed engine mounts when they had been replaced and are within spec. When the entire job in the first place was bad. Refused to fix it and kicked me off the property. Of course I was prepared to drop several hundred... It was SO SIMPLE! Pipe rusted and disconnected from the muffler. Love this place! I was on a cross-country rod trip when my tailpipe completely severed from the muffler. I couldn't find a shop that could get me in same day in Kansas City, so I started looking at shops in St. Louis foe the following day. Don's has a diet come, first served policy, and they suggested arriving at 7:30 or 7:45 am. I arrived at 7:30, and I was the first in line. (No one else arrived until just before 8.) The shop was opened by a woman, and she was joined by her daughter who also works there. 2 women working at a mechanic shop... I was already loving this place! They gave me an estimate within 10 minutes and had the job done in less than an hour and a half. The $189 charge seemed reasonable, and my truck no longer sounds like a low rider or a Harley. My daughter had her catalytic converter stolen and we took it to another shop that told her it would be $740 to repair and then they refused to work with us on repurposing many of the items like the oxygen sensors and working to repair those items instead of replacing them and then had the audacity to charge her $20 for looking at her car. I hate when a place tries to rip off a young woman in distress. I was sure to let them know. We of course left Tom Bess automotive and came directly here. The lovely woman at the counter here at Don's muffler shop was so kind and helpful on the phone and worked with us and helped my daughter every step of the way in a very kind manner. We ended up spending $240 and having a much better experience. All the other people waiting had nothing but praise for this shop. This is exactly how a repair shop should be run. Friendly and nice and working with the customer to have a safe as sound repair and a financially rewarding outcome for both parties. I could not recommend this establishment more and I will go out of my way to support them and share what a great job they did. They are in an area of town that is up-and-coming and needs our support and this is the kind of business that we need to support as citizens of St. Louis. Had my catalytic converter stolen last year and then replaced at Matt's Muffler on New Halls Ferry Rd. near Hazelwood area only for them to tell me I had to then get my O2 sensor replaced at a dealership because they could not do it. Dealership requires $150 diagnostic on top of actual repair, so I asked Reddit what to do and was recommended Don's Muffler. Called and received an immediate answer from a kind woman who was straight to the point and said they could do it in 20 minutes for $75 labor. She also let me know there was no wait at that time. Immediately went over there and was no wait as she said. This was middle of the week, late morning. They literally did it in less than 15 minutes. I have been going to this shop for over 10 years now and when I say you can't get a better deal then here, I MEAN IT!! Mildred is always behind the counter and is super knowledgeable when it comes to muffler/exhaust problems. The price she charges for work is very inexpensive, which normally would make me nervous because you know the old saying, "You get what you pay for", but that's not true when it comes to Don's. Being in the car business myself for several years, I have sent several clients here. They are always impressed with their work and pricing. Not too long ago my daughter went too fast over a speed bump and ended up damaging her exhaust. She took it to Meineke and they told her that the whole exhaust would have to be replaced. They quoted her almost $1,000 to fix it. She called me all upset so I sent her to Don's. They were able to weld it back together without having to replace the whole thing and only charges her $80! The catalytic converter on my Toyota SUV was stolen for a second time, the first time I took it to the dealer the second time I did not want to report to insurance in fear of getting canceled. A friend recommended Don's muffler clinic I called she said come now I can give you an estimate Right away . I went there she gave me an estimate had to replace one of the two catalytic converter's (new) on my car and an O2 sensor and some pipes they also installed two cages around the converters all finished within two hours the total cost of everything was $1600! Very reasonable compared to the dealership price of $5,000 for catalytic converters And had to wait almost 7 weeks to get my car back while insurance did provide a rental car it was costly for the insurance company $7,000 combined. Wow all I can say, is this place is amazing. We have used them twice now. My daughter had a muffler repair on her Honda Pilot, excellent work for an fair price. I was going to take my son's Acura TL down there for last-minute repairs for Missouri safety inspection. It was at the dealer, in St. Louis County, Frank Leta Acura, and I was joking about how I was heading down to the hood to get his exhaust system repaired because it failed the Safety Inspection. My service representative said that's what I would've recommended! This is in the middle of St. Louis, Gravois Park, and there are a lot of people coming and going. It is the most efficient operation I've ever seen or witnessed. $150 later, my son's car was repaired, and I was able to get it reinspected and registered with the DMV. This is honestly the most comfortable I've felt getting my car worked on in awhile. My mechanic referred me to Don's to get a leak in my exhaust fixed. Mildred greeted me and told me it wouldn't take long even though it was BUSY! She was not wrong! They got me out in under an hour. She told me I needed a hanger, a muffler, and a resonator (if I wanted). She gave me options with prices and told me honestly what was necessary vs what would be extra. As someone who is absolutely clueless about cars, it is refreshing when someone is honest and is wanting to help instead of taking advantage. Total I paid $195 for all 3! I live down the street on Cherokee and have been needing to get an oil change and safety and emissions test for a few weeks now. So I went down the street to Don's after calling to see when they open (9 AM). I walked right in, handed my key over to the woman behind the counter and took a seat. To get an oil change and safety and emissions test, they took my car across the street to their secondary shop. I was there for maybe 45 minutes. They got the oil changed but I didn't pass the inspection as my front brake pads were super low (something like 1/32nd of an inch? Didn't sound great). They suggested going to the Honda dealership to buy new brake pads directly from dealership, bringing them back to the shop, and then they would install them. They also said I could go to Reilly's or any other auto parts store, but the Honda brake pads would last longer and produce much less brake dust. They told me this because it would be cheaper overall to run around and get that stuff myself, as opposed to them having to do it. I called the Honda dealership, the brake pads are waiting for me, I'm heading out to pick them up, then going back to Don's to get them installed. The oil change was $30 and the safety & emissions test was $33. Not sure if I need to get another test/inspection after getting the pads installed. Couldn't recommend this place enough - I'm a lady and know very little about cars. It would have been very easy to take advantage of that fact. But Don and the woman behind the counter (maybe Mildred?) were SO sweet and helpful and honest. I love that this place is only nine blocks away from my house. read more

Other than not being greeted/directed when I first arrived, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Don's Muffler Clinic. They have two buildings - I was unclear as to which one to go to. The mechanic saw me standing there and looking a little confused yet waited to finish what he was doing before asking if there was anything I needed or letting me know it would just be a matter of minutes before assisting me. Not a big deal - just would have been nice to know I was in the right building of the two. Other than that, I was there for some inspections required to obtain a MO license plate. The mechanic knew exactly what needed to be done and I was out of there within 15 minutes. He saved me an ID/OD inspection by knowing what was required for the plates. I went to Don's for my breaks on 10/6 and I couldn't be happier. As a woman, I hate taking my car to the shop because of the bs I have to deal with, but not with Don's. I'm treated with respect, and the prices are more than fair. Mildred was a saint, and the quality of my repair was outstanding. I'm personally skeptical of all 5 star ratings, but this shop deserves it. Always shop local, don't go to a chain!!!! I bought my own brake pads, they went above and beyond to find a bolt that was missing on my hub assembly (I went to another shop for my oil change and suspect fowl play), and my price came below $200 for both sides of my front brakes. For the best price and quality service you needn't look any further than Don's Muffler Clinic. The dealer told me that my ENTIRE exhaust system needed replacement at a charge just shy of $800 but, THANK GOODNESS, a friend referred me to Don's Muffler Clinic. Mildred, the owner, told me whole system didn't need replacing and her staff could make it good as new for $300 which they did. The proof is a couple months later I passed my emissions inspection with flying colors. I highly recommend this female-owned Christian business. I purchased a muffler online totaling $147.88, which was recommended to me by Don's Muffler. After their install for $102.75, the muffler was too loud....so they recommended installing a resignator, which would supposedly lower the muffler sound They charged an additional $142.00. This did not work. So far I've spent $392,63 . I was then told I could get a "quieter" muffler for approximately $105.00 at no installation charge by them, in exchange for the original new muffler I'd purchased! Does this shop seem customer friendly or a total rip-off??? I won' be returning to this shop or recommending them to anyone!! read more
