I found these fun tiny drinks at Total Wine & More in Poway. I was looking for something new and unique to try. I got these 3 for $10. It was a deal if you picked up three for ten which typically one drink can cost well over $10. During my shopping experience, I encountered some of the staff. Each one was really friendly and helpful. Gave me a few recommendations which I'll have to try in the future. It was my first time at this location so overall I enjoyed my shopping while discovering new drinks to try.

I've been a loyal customer of Total Wine primarily the Mission Valley location, but my recent visit…read moreto the Carmel Valley store left me extremely uncomfortable and disappointed. On my way to San Marcos, I stopped in to pick up a few cigars. While browsing the Scotch section, specifically looking at a Dalmore 15, an employee approached me and greeted me. I politely responded and made it clear more than once that I did not need assistance. I prefer to shop independently, and if I need help, I will ask. Despite this, the employee continued trying to engage, ignoring my clear and respectful responses. At that point, I was already feeling pressured and just wanted to check out and leave. While waiting in line, the same employee approached me again and redirected me to another register, saying he could help me there. I agreed, expecting a straightforward checkout. Instead, the interaction became uncomfortable and frankly bizarre. He asked if I needed a cigar bag. I responded clearly: "Yes." Rather than proceeding normally, he paused, stared at me, and acted as if he did not understand my response. There was an awkward silence where he simply looked at me in a confused and almost performative way. At that moment, I had to say: "I think my English wasn't that bad saying 'yes' after you asked if I need a bag." His response was dismissive: "Oh no, I asked if you need a cigar bag."! This interaction felt unnecessary, patronizing, and inappropriate. What should have been a simple transaction turned into an uncomfortable experience that made me question whether I was being subtly mocked or tested over something as basic as saying "yes." This happened around 3:33 PM on a Saturday. what should have been a quick stop after a long week turned into a frustrating and unwelcome experience. For clarity, the employee's name was John. I expect better from a company like Total Wine. Customers should not feel pressured while browsing, nor should they be made uncomfortable during a basic checkout interaction. This kind of behavior reflects poorly on the store and needs to be addressed seriously. I hope corporate reviews this and takes appropriate action to ensure customers are treated with respect and professionalism.

A while later, I received a call from Jeannette at the SDW&B Co. who advised me that, based on the hot weather in CA, they would hold off on shipping a few days until temps began to cool off in the East - was that OK? Wow! Absolutely fantastic customer service! Will not hesitate to order from them again. And, the price was great!

"We don't buy for particular price points, but we like to sell wines that we enjoy, no matter the price." I bought a mixed case, and I was hooked. Every few months I would stop by, and buy a mixed case. I learned to ask, How much of this is available? If I liked it, I would call and reserve a case. Today, I stopped by to pick up a mixed case for the holidays. I had a photo on my phone of some bottles I had bought during a previous visit, hoping to buy more. I asked someone, Are any of these still available? His response, "Yes, No, Yes, and Yes." And before I could ask where they were, he said " Look out behind you. We're loading new inventory. Can you please get out of the way? " So I got out of the way. There were 2 or 3 people delivering wine, and a few more stocking and organizing. But there were no other customers in the store. Nobody bothered to ask me, "Can I help you?" I've never felt so invisible in my entire life. I wandered through the aisles, found a few bottles, paid for them, and left. I know the holidays are a busy time, but this was a Wed morning, about 10AM. And this is the last time I will shop there.

This is really important and I hope the public takes the time to read this for their own safety…read more I was just severely harassed, degraded and feared for my personal safety inside this establishment perpetuated by the man behind the counter. I'm not sure if he is the owner or the employee. My husband has been coming to this liquor store for well over a decade. I have come in a few times for a soda or other random food item and have never had a bad experience until today. I was in the area and decided to stop in to cash my lottery tickets and purchase new lottery tickets with my winnings. I waited patiently in line. Right before it was my turn, the clerk answered a phone call. I waited for 30 seconds or so to be polite and let him finish his call. He motioned for me to hand him my tickets so I figured perhaps his call would continue and he wanted to keep the line moving. I told him I should have $4 each of winnings on the tickets totaling $8 in all. He ran the tickets and said "$8" I handed him my new lottery ticket numbers and he said I owed $2. Here's where things got crazy and unreasonable. He was on the phone this whole time. I told him I had miscalculated and made a mistake and I only wanted to buy $8 of new lottery tickets with my winnings. He immediately became enraged and said he could not cancel the transaction. I told him I did not have $2 cash and didn't understand why he couldn't cancel the transaction and rerun my request. He became enraged further and raising his voice saying over and over that he could not cancel the transaction. I stayed very calm while he ranted and raved about how "everyone knows this." He slammed his hands down on the counter and this is when I really feared for my safety. He looked as though he was ready to physically assault me over this simple misunderstanding. At some point during this scary encounter, he hung up the phone. I asked if I could use my debit card to pay for the additional $2 since he could not "cancel the transaction." The entire time I was respectful, addressing him as "sir" and trying my best to stay calm in this frightening situation. Eventually he said I could run my card for $2.50 for the money owed for the new lottery tickets. He was beyond disrespectful and when I informed my family was long time customers of his establishment he said "I don't care. Don't come here next time/again." I felt very threatened at this point. Here's the bottom line. I don't play the lotto on a regular basis. I am unaware of the rules of cancellation for their equipment/machines. He should have explained the rule in a calm matter instead of immediately escalating the situation by yelling and throwing a fit. I would have and did happily pay for the additional monies owed (+ a .50 cent fee) because I understood he could not cancel the transaction. He was very angry I kept asking him why we couldn't cancel the transaction. All he had to do was communicate in a calm, non-threatening manner that he was not permitted to do that for X reason. I believe this person is dangerous if he becomes so unhinged at such a small misunderstanding. I was so shooken up over his behavior towards me that I did report this incident to the Escondido Police Department. Maybe it's because I'm a woman. Maybe he's just having a bad day. None of those circumstances excuse this belligerent, confrontational and disrespectful behavior towards me. For the safety of yourself and those you care about, I would STRONGLY suggest you do not visit this liquor store. We will no longer be supporting this abusive company.
