I was traveling home on my way back from TN and noticed I was about to lose my muffler. Pulled off the interstate and Don's garage was the first place I came to. Note: it was about 3:15pm and I was a bit panicked because my experience is that if you show up to a garage late in the afternoon chances are you can't get helped that day. I was blown away by the fact that even though they were obviously very busy, they took my car in as soon as a bay was free because I was traveling. VERY sweet lady in the office, and an older gentleman was the one who took care of me. They ordered a new hanger for my muffler, and also noticed a bent lateral bar. He took pictures of both rear lateral bars so he could show me what it should look like, and what the bent one looked like. So many times I've been to garages in the last few years and they don't even let you know if they see other issues especially if they know you're not getting the other issues fixed there. His letting me know ensured I quickly made an appointment with my dealer at home so I can get it fixed, and my new tires being installed today won't be ruined. They really took care of this scared old lady in time of need and I am forever beholden! read more

I waited 2 weeks for an appointment for diagnostics and check for a leak in my car. The leak was never looked at. I was told by the 20 something boy that the mechanic had to leave and that my car needed a computer. The car was left with the ac on and my car book thrown in the consol. Charged me 100 for nothing! When I made a complaint I was ignored! Very poor service! read more

Very disappointing. Replace starter for over $250. Did not solve the problem. Did not diagnose the problem correctly. Charge me $100 to look at the problem after he charge me for the starter. Did not return phone calls. Did not show up on time. Waited for over two hours for him to show up to work so I could tell him what I thought might be the problem based on other mechanics opinions. Talked poorly about Gibsons and said he often had to fix the problems that they caused. Found him to be rude and impatient. I was in Abingdon when my car overheated. The closest place was Dons Garage. When I got there I was told it might take a while to find the problem. Okay it was obvious what the problem was because green antifreeze was squirting from a small hose on top. It took an hour to "find the problem". Then another hour for the hose to arrive. Then another hour for the hose to be put on. I was charged $90.00 for labor and $125.00 total. DO NOT GO THERE they will rip you off. read more

Had my car for a week. error codes showed problem but he would not fix saying that wasn't the problem. after a week he told me it was too complicated and he didn't have time to fix it! He ridiculed me saying he put the car on the dyno that morning (apparently a snide reference to the fact it is a performance car). I have never been so disgusted with an owner of a business. All this man new how to do was blame his employees and throw his hands in the air and say," what do you want me to do?" He cursed at me and his employees when I became frustrated that he could not explain to me what he had done to my car. Great, understanding employees, but he is rude and vulgar. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I have never done business at a place before that has exploited me as a customer and talked down to me after the fact. I was a student at Emory and Henry college in the fall semester of 2018. I took my car in because this garage had good reviews and I was 3 hours from home with a car that was having issues and would throttle down and die on me if I drove it on the interstate or up to about 40 mph any longer than a few minutes. These guys told me my car needed a "tune-up", basically, and put new spark plugs in the car. They charged me $220 dollars for the work and my father paid over the phone 3 hours away, reluctantly, because he knew something more was wrong with the vehicle. I drove the car off of the lot directly to Demascus and the second I stopped at a red light when I got there, white smoking was blowing from the back end. When I opened the hood, I noticed that there was not a single drop of antifreeze in my tank. (Which should be routinely filled at a garage during a tune-up) I had to have the car towed back to this garage and my father called the owner the next day with no response, so he drove three hours to the garage from my home in KY. The owners of the garage told him it was not their fault, that he would have to pay for a brand new motor (the whole motor was now shot) and they would not help him out at all. Speaking to him, and about me, like we were stupid for questioning them. My father has also posted a review to the Business Bureau which allowed a response from the owner that my father received in an email today. The owner the the garage called us "morons", saying that people like "us" should not be allowed to breed, his testimony of the issue with the car when I first brought it in was completely false. He seriously wrote this all in his response to THE BUSINESS BUREAU. That actually shocked me. At the end of the day, these people are arrogant, rude, provided us with the utter worst service we could have received, and think so highly of themselves that they talk down to you if you question them, and they speak of their customers as "morons" when replying to reviews. read more

Anyone with a good review of this place is either related to the owner or knows nothing about vehicles. My son is a college student near Abingdon VA. He was having trouble with his car running hot. We searched the web for a garage with good reviews and convenient location. He found Don's Garage. I contacted the garage and spoke with an employee while my son was there with the car (I am two states away.) I explained to the employee that the car had been running hot and the radiator was frequently low on fluid. I explained, in detail, that I had knowledge of vehicles and not to do any repair to the vehicle until they had called me back and explained the diagnosis. If I felt like I was getting jerked around, I would happily pay the fee for the diagnostic and look elsewhere. Nearly a week later, after several phone calls full of lies and promises to have the, "guy that looked at it," call me back, they called my son and told him the car was ready. He called me from the garage and said that it is finished and I owe them $216. I had only agreed to a $40 diagnostic that would be waived if I decided to have the car worked on there. I asked to speak to the owner and he finally got on the phone. He told me that the total was for 4 spark plugs and an oil change. The car was there for neither of those reasons and if it were, that would be about $100 too much anyway, even after labor. A diagnostic had not even been done for the overheating issue. I began to voice my complaints and he began to explain how he would hold the car hostage unless I paid the bill. After much deliberation I begrudgingly told my son to take the car to another garage and agreed to pay the highway robbers the money they were stealing from me. My son called the next day and informed me that the car had overheated and blown a head gasket on the way home from the garage and he'd called emergency roadside assistance to take it right back to Don's garage. I called the garage numerous times over the next week before someone would speak to me about it. They did not offer to make any concessions for their sabotage of my son's car. I really believe that they drained the fluid from the radiator so that it would blow up after he left and they could stick us with a huge repair bill. The owner said they would buy a new motor for it for about $4,600 and the labor for it would be $1,200-$1,500. And that's all he could do. I was forced to borrow a truck, drive 400 miles, rent a car dolly and pull the car back home. While at the garage, the owner (whom is not named Don btw,) was a total jerk to me and my 72yo father that accompanied me. When I asked why the overheating problem wasn't addressed when that was the purpose for the diagnostic, he replied, "How the f**k am I supposed to stop a car from overheating if the mother f***er doesn't overheat when it's here?" When I asked for the key to the vehicle he walked in the garage and retrieved the key from the board behind the counter, came out and threw it at the ground toward my feet. He told me if I didn't like the way he does business, don't f***ing come back. I took the car home and had it repaired for $1800. All of this could have been avoided if they had done their jobs properly and replaced a radiator hose or a water pump. Instead, they tried to rip off a young kid away from home because they didn't think his daddy would drive all the way down there to get the car. If you take your car to these scoundrels you will get ripped off. Don't chance it. read more
