My coworker's birthday is today and I wanted to do something nice and bring in donuts to celebrate. I didn't want to go to a chain so I scoured yelp for a donut recommendation, and yall pointed me here. I figured 5am open time and closed almost 1/2 the week - it has to be good to operate on those kind of hours. 15 min from home and opens early enough I can grab them and head back north to work. Logistically it all worked out. Place wasn't busy. I got there at 6am. A few older men sitting at a table, drinking coffee and telling tales. Reminded me of my youth and going with my Uncle to hang out with the old men at McDonald's. It was nostalgic. One lady working. Very friendly and helpful. Pretty decent donut selection. I ordered two on the side for my husband and I to share. Cinnamon roll with chocolate icing and nuts. That was pretty good. Definitely tasted soft and fresh. I ordered an apple fritter - one of my Dad's faves - and it was good. Way different than Tim Hortons! Tasted fried and was dense but still soft. Had plenty of apple. So good. I'm not big on donuts but I would definitely come back for occasions like today. read more

On my way from the West Side of Toeldo to Ottawa County and bypassed a couple other donut shops to give Don's a shot. I would agree with some of the other reviews, Don's is definitely a throwback in time with old-school theme & decor creating a nostalgic experience. In my opinion, other donut shops in the Toledo area have better tasting products. read more

I love GOOD apple fritters. I bought apple fritters from 3 local bakeries. Bakery #1: The "apple fritter" had neither pieces of apple NOR any trace of apple taste. Not bad...if you remove the word "apple.". Bakery #2: Their fritter included a little fragment of apple, and the equivalent of apple taste. Bakery #3 / DON'S!: The gold(en) standard! Although the shop was closed maybe five minutes after it was supposed to open (who of us hasn't been a little late to work?), the donuts are consistently delicious, the staff is nothing short of amazing, and the ambience is that of a friendly corner donut shop from the 50s. We got to the shop later in the morning and they were almost cleared out of donuts which forced us to get some things we normally might not have picked - HOWEVER, they did not disappoint! These are legit donuts. I had a buttermilk stick donut and it had great flavor and texture. We enjoyed talking with the shop owner and learning a bit about the unique building and it's history. They do not serve breakfast anymore. We stopped in thinking we could grab some breakfast based on pictures I saw for this business. Turns out they don't serve it anymore. So we just ordered a couple donuts. There was not a huge selection, the donuts we ordered were kind of dry but not too bad. The flavor was good and the donuts weren't too dense so that's a plus. They employees were super friendly and this place definitely has a hometown feel which is what bumped it up to four stars for me. read more

What I love about this place is that it opens at 5:00 AM. It's a perfect time to purchase before starting your day at work or school. These donuts are not like the processed ones from Dukin' Donuts or Krispy Kreme. They are freshly made donuts. I recommend the Apple Crisp. It tastes like a glazed pancake. Their ponczkis are excellent as well. I find their donuts with filling to be very delicious; fillings such as apple, blueberry, lemon, custard/cream, and chocolate are tasty also. always looking for good donuts, and some of Don's are great. I'm really a cake donut fan and this is where Don's fell short. I like my cake to be a little firm with a crispy outside. Well, Don's are like lead inside. I have never found cake donuts to be such boat anchors. These I would not return for But the raised/glazed/yeast/jelly were fantastic. Flavor, texture, filling for the jelly were all great. Truly worth a try. They are limited in varieties. I got a 1/2 dozen mixed for $5 which seemed average Place seemed dingy/maybe a little dirty but worth a try for those raised glazed! read more
