Donnybrook Fair is the kind of place you drool at from outside, and then move on to do the weekly shop in Aldi and try to forget that places like the Fair exist for those who can afford it. The condiments, sauces and preserves section of the shop is my favourite, with pots of fresh pesto and red onion marmalade, and jars of sundried tomatoes and plump juicy olives tempting me to splurge my money. The wine selection is excellent, the freshly baked breads light and delicious, and the butchers, who sources rich aged beef, enjoys an excellent reputation. Even if I was really rich I don't think I could justify doing my weekly shop here, but I would definitely be a regular for occasion-food shopping.

This Donnybrook Fair is no longer, strictly speaking in Donnybrook. In transit it appears to have gotten smaller and now has a juice bar. I suppose travelling just changes places. It's still achingly stylish, the exterior alone is an exercise in good taste and restraint but if you like that wait till you get an eyeball full of the wiggly counter, phew, is it hot in here?! True, it's a little cramped in this Donnybrook Fair but they do fit in a remarkable selection of delectables on top of the newsagent standards. Maybe not everyone is as blown away by the wiggly counter as I am, but if truffles and caviar and the likes are your bag then this is a primo spot to get them at. For me, it's just a corner shop with an Armani dinner jacket and it'll have to be three stars I'm afraid.

Donnybrook Fair has a few stores around the place. The one on Baggot Street is a cracker. There's everything from convenience food to wine, a quality deli counter, breads and sweets, flowers, gifts and magazines, and a juice and coffee bar. As a rule their food is great, but some of the generic grocery style items have a big markup compared to the supermarket chains. At lunch time the place can be jam packed with people picking up wraps and salads or waiting for fresh hot stuff from the noodle bar. Likewise, the post office up the back can get cramped ans slow at peak times. The coffee is good (although the swarthy young barista is not what you would call speedy) and the berry, yogurt and apple smoothie is amazing. The service is sometimes a bit gruff, but never bad enough to stop me going back. After all, they have the best selection of boutique crisps I have ever seen!

Oh my god this place was the absolute best is like a little grocery store but they had a hot bar…read moreand tons of treats and connected to it was a frank and honest coffee company I was able to get a pot of hot tea and some little foods to eat I really enjoyed myself at this particular place and I wish that I would've been here every day because you could pretty much survive of everything They had some great chicken cutlets The baguette was amazing I brought a hazelnut donuts back home with me to my hotel I couldn't fit it but it was a lot of things that I wanted everything looked absolutely delicious I don't know why anyone would give this a better view

A Centra is indeed a Centra, but there's a couple things about this one worth noting…read more.. It has a hot counter (it likely didn't have one in 2009 as per previous review) and the Centra itself is oddly "long". You can enter in Temple Bar and exit on the quays OR you can even enter on the quays and exit in Temple Bar. It seems to always be busy between 8-9am and 12-3pm. I usually pass through to buy a mineral, as it's 1 Euro (as opposed to the one on Parliament Street, where they are still asking for 1.50-2.00). The staff is rather brisk and abrupt. You can be cheerful and say 'thank you' and they'll still look at you with contempt, as if they are doing you an absolute favour letting you spend whatever money hasn't been taxed off you at their establishment. The queue at the register is next to the dining area near the quay doors. This exposes oneself to a lot of 'ambiance', such as last week the queue bore witness to a charming card breaking up with his girlfriend (tears and all) at the table closest to the register. I guess it couldn't wait.

All the vendors are super friendly and love to make conversation! Great way to spend a morning! The ambiance is very quaint and friendly! Overall a great atmosphere and way to buy. Thank you for the recommendation, Fodor's! (yes, I bought their travel guide like a true tourist.)…read more My friends and I wanted to try some Ireland oysters because we heard they were supposedly super fresh. We were running out of time on our hunt to find them when I realized, 'I've got my trusty guidebook!!' And that's how we ended up here. It was 12 Euros for 6 oysters and a glass of wine. Since there were four of us, the lady was nice enough to give us 4 cups of wine (yes, plastic cups - it's a farmer's market, what do you expect!) They even threw in an extra oyster! SO FRESH! SO BIG! (cue that's-what-she-said joke). Compared to NYC oysters, these babies looked like they were on steroids! They also have this dipping sauce (had onions and was really vinegar-y, but good. But if you don't like the sour, you should just take the oyster straight.) Didn't eat anything else from other stands because we just had lunch. However, I believe they had shish kebabs, crepes, and bread. Oh and FYI - Sheridans Cheesemongers was there (saw this place on Anthony Bourdain when he went to Dublin so thought this might be worth mentioning). Definitely check out this farmer's market!
