A swanky and posh place and we need something like this in the states, loved it here! We did some shopping, got some groceries where I decided that as a lover of Mac and Cheese, I would have to try the Irish version so picked that up. We also had some lunch at their birdcage cafe on the upper level. Pretty good food choices in their cafe. Will definitely come here again. Mac & Cheese Update: Very very bland, no seasoning and barely any cheese. There's is a crispy coating on top that was interesting and that reminded me of a type of panko bread crumbs. Avoca, once a small handweavers in Co. Wicklow, has transformed itself into a national clothing and food brand with stores across Ireland. This particular store opened in 2010 and is in an ideal location between Dublin and Kildare, and serves as a stop off point for travellers in both directions. You'll find clothing, housewares, a coffee shop, delicatessen, cafe and of course the Egg Cafe. I come here every time I visit Ireland and crave the bacon sandwich with relish all year round. Their pancakes are also amazing, as is the full Irish breakfast. Prices are high as expected, but the quality is definitely there. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is always friendly and attentive. If you want a more casual dining experience, there is a carvery restaurant on the same floor with lasagna, quiche, salads and other delicious foods to eat in or take out. If you're in the area and love home style food you can't go wrong. Be prepared to pay for the privilege though! read more

Perhaps choosing to drive after traveling for over 24 hours was not the brightest choice. But I figured a power nap in the fetid shamrock plane was enough... Apparently it wasn't, I ended up driving on the wrong side (American side) of the road twice... I think my passenger wet herself a little each time, but because I am too proud to admit failure I ignored her shrieks and told her to lighten up but inside I too was crying in terror. As a way to make up for my motoring transgressions I drove all the way to here to have some good fresh Irish food. After gaining half a stone in the South from too much fried everything and beer it's time to return to simple Irish cuisine. The outside decking area was teeming with folks on the glorious day that was yesterday. I got the lentil nut loaf with a choice of three salads, I opted for the broccoli and feta cheese, shredded carrots in mandarin marinate and fresh summer fruits in mint juice - yum! Dessert, ok ok I can see your eyes roll... I am weening myself slowly into this weight loose malarkey. Passion fruit tart and coffee... These people know how to cook real tasty Irish food. My husband and myself went to Avoca Rathcoole to have lunch today May 5, 2023 between 2-3pm. When I went to order our desserts, I was alone in the cake area and no staff came to assist me eventho' there were 2 staff in the area and they already saw me. There was no other customer but me at that time and it was not busy at all. As I said, there were 2 staffs who were there (one in cashier with long hair in pony tail) and the other one ( with boy cut hair with curly hair on top with a streak on her hair) putting the small pieces of butter in packets beside the cashier. They are talking to each other as if they are having a row. The curly hair asked me to go to the cashier because people are coming to queue in and said she will get my cakes and she will give it in the cashier area. She gave me my cake order but I am still waiting for my 1 order of cappuccino. Since I am still waiting for my cappuccino, I let the 2 woman behind me to go first to pay. It was only 1 CAPPUCCINO that i was waiting and I was surprised that they gave 2 cappuccino with the man behind me and did not even gave me 1 cappuccino first, since I was there for ages! Before that happened, while I was waiting for my coffee, I saw the curly hair told the pony tail woman to make 1 cappuccino for me but she ignored it because they are having a row! I don't know why the curly hair did not make me coffee herself and asked the pony tail woman instead but she ignored her. So I was the one who was affected! When I complained and asked where is my coffee and why that old man was served first since I was there before him. The old man who owns the 2 cappuccino who was served first before me have argued with me and told me that he was there before me and accused me of no manners! I told him to ask the curly hair that I was there before him and just let his wife to go before me because I was just waiting for my coffee. The curly hair cannot answer because she knows I was there before him. I just would like to say that customers are affected when your staff are having a row. The curly hair did not make my coffee and asked the pony tail to make it (which she did not) and made the 2 cappuccino coffee for the old man instead and let me wait even I ordered first before that old man! I only ordered 1 cappuccino coffee only and she made 2 cappuccino coffee for that old man! The pony tail woman should have given me 1 of those coffee that she made first so that I can go already because I was there before that old man and I was there for ages. And by the way, we were charged €19.60 for 2 slices of cakes and 1 cappuccino! What a rip off! Not worth it at all! read more

I *love* Avoca. It's an Irish store chain that stocks clothes, jewellery, home wares and general lovely cute bits and pieces. They are also well known for their amazing food. This particular Avoca is ENORMOUS. It's just off the N7 motor way and has plenty of on site parking. There is a large food area to the left as you go in featuring a deli/bakery/fromagerie/sushi counter/butcher. It's all to take away here but there is a cute little seating area outside at the front of the shop where it's nice to sit on a sunny day. The shop part itself is lovely and spacious. They stock a lot more products than you'd see at the city centre branch. There are a further two eateries upstairs, with a lovely big balcony space where you can eat outside with lovely views. I've had a vegetarian antipasti board here and it was completely delicious. Really fresh and full of flavour. Always worth a look in if you're passing, in my opinion! read more

I couldn't agree more with Annie L's review of Avoca. Like she says, Suffolk St is always jammers - no matter what time of the day you go - and while the food is great, sometimes you just want to enjoy their great offerings in peace. The Avoca in Rathcoole is exactly where you can do this. It is just like The Suffolk St store except much bigger. Downstairs you have the home ware/clothes etc as well as the deli part - where you can get things like quiche/bread/cakes to take away. Then upstairs is the café, which I absolutely love, and then they have a more upmarket restaurant too. So depending on your budget or what you're in the mood for, you can get whatever you like. Avoca is a little pricey, but I have no problem paying for good quality, homemade food. Delicious! read more

I have to give this avoca 5 stars because I cannot think of any negatives. I usually go to the avoca in kilmacanogue which I love because of the beautiful grounds but stopped off here on my way to horse riding lessons at the cool mine equestrian centre. It was a beautiful sunny day and the view from the outside seated area made up for the lack of gardens to stroll around. Really enjoyed my butternut squash soup, 3 salads and I always have to have a slice of the seeded brown bread- amazing! Will be back to sample more of the food. read more

This American visits Ireland at least once a year. This American must always stop at Avoca in Rathcoole for my favorites. Always! There is nothing from Ireland I crave more than Avoca...well except maybe the bikkies and chocolate. I enjoy this location of Avoca for the casual eatery and also the shopping. I love to get the trio of salads - the carrot salad is my favorite. This time around we also went to Egg Cafe and we all enjoyed that very much. I recommend Avoca to everyone I know that is visiting Ireland. It is such a great place to stop on your way somewhere. It is also a great place to pickup a fancy dessert to bring along to your family dinner. LOVE! read more

As we came up to the Newlands Cross Junction Wifey had a brainwave... "lets go to Avoca for Lunch"... not a bad brainwave in fairness. As we arrived into the car park it became immediately obvious that we were not the only ones with this exact same brainwave and started me wondering if Wifey had inadvertently tapped into some sort of local food based collective concious. I let my family jump out of the car while I started looking for a free parking space, I didn't stop the car, I made them jump out in an A-Team sort of manner, they weren't amused but it looked really cool. There are several different dining options including a Sushi bar, we got the last table free in the Egg restaurant. The food was excellent, I went for fish & chips which was perfectly cooked, fresh and tasty, wifey went for the 1/2 rotisserie chicken... it looked amazing and I am told tasted likewise. The children's menu was well chosen, good value and the portions were huge. Replete after the meal we wandered around the rest of the vast shop, it has everything from a butchers to clothes section, the selection is vast and not cripplingly expensive (not cheap either mind!). I tried to get the family to jump into the car through the windows as we left, they refused. I'll go with someone more fun next time. read more

My favourite thing about this place...... its handiness for my drive back west to Clare. After beating the madness of outbound traffic, it's nice to pull in for 20 minutes for a refueling of the body and a rest for the mind. While not spectacular, I always find the portions generous and mostly tasty. Last time I was here I had the beef bourguignon. Which was spot on for what I required. The sides were as big as the dish but half as tasty which was a shame. It's handiness will probably ensure I'll be back though!! read more

Great selection of hot food, sandwiches, quiches paired with a range of salads. Being Avoca, you know it's not going to be cheap... I paid €16.50 for two small fishcakes, two side salads and a drink. Food is of good quality but not quite the standard of their branches in Malahide or in the city centre. Very popular for a Friday work lunch given there's not much else around so make sure you get in before 1 pm or else you'll be spending most of your lunch break looking for parking spaces and queueing! read more

Big selection of Avoca mills' products, great grocers section which is full of fresh produce, Avoca bread and cakes alongside a James Whelan butchers, a sushi counter and a Poulet Bonne Femme (amazing sandwiches here!) There are two sit down restaurants upstairs. One is self service (Birdcage) but if you order hot food it will be brought to your table. The serve good coffee with cakes, pastries and bread. It can be hard to choose what to get with your coffee. My favourite has to be their baked cheesecakes. If you go to the sit down restaurant (Egg) I recommend you try their lemonade... One of my favorite places for Sunday breakfast, the place is so popular that sometimes you wouldn't even find a place to park. There are a few reasons why locals like Avoca, first of all it's a relaxed atmosphere, you even see couples with newborn babies and kids there As for food it's delicious! For breakfast I always order my bacon sandwich with scrambled eggs and sausages on the side, the portion is huge, will feed 2. Staff is very efficient and friendly. It's not cheap, but it's so worth the price! They've got 2 food halls and they've huge range of yummy deserts ! I love their eclairs!(warning! the portion is huge!:) read more

FOOD HALL: First off, everything at Avoca looks--and smells--gorgeous. I have tried the brown bread with nuts and seeds and I have never felt better about eating bread. Even slathered in butter, it still feels healthy. Most of the food items look amazing and I cant wait to try more. I am taking away one star for the prices and selection. I know they use high-quality ingredients but one of the only reasons I bought the bread is it was the only unique thing I couldn't find somewhere else for cheaper. Pesto or lemon curd for €6 a jar? Surely, you jest. If I was well-to-do I would definitely shop here more but I am not so I hunt around for better deals on foodie items. Minus one more star for the location. Maybe it's just me but this is not a convenient area to do my grocery shopping--especially with all the retail stores around. I'd hate to buy a full bag of goodies and have to walk through the crowds to get home. STORE: Same deal: gorgeous clothing and housewares. I wish I could buy the entire store. But I cant (sadface) because it is so pricey. When I moved to Dublin I was told that Avoca was Ireland's answer to my Anthropologie withdrawals...come to find it's even more expensive than Anthro. I was told great things about this place and I was not let down. It's sort of a weird setting, in that it's almost like a really high level premium motorway services, but it's actually nothing like that once your inside. We went by the shop and into the restaurant up stairs. I had the most amazing 1/2 chicken rotisserie and Caesar salad I have ever had in my life. Literally on both fronts they were huge, tasty and really high quality. Setting is a bit bizarre, but the food was great and the place was mobbed. Service was fast, friendly and efficient: Great lunch that I would be happy to have again. Once you have finished in the restaurant you can wander round the high end deli/book shop/clothes shop etc etc. read more

If you go to Dublin, go to Avoca (for the clothing, cafe, and household wares). If you go to Avoca, go to this location. It is huge and impressive, with so many things to choose from. My friends who live in Ireland introduced me to Avoca, and I love this place. I go here every time I visit them, and definitely spend a lot of money, too. They carry some gorgeous garments, and I even bought my boyfriend some clothing there, too. Everything is quality. If you don't live in the EU, you can get the VAT back. You have to have your passport and fill out a simple form. Not only that, stores like Avoca can credit you immediately (to say your credit card), but you get a little less than if you go to the airport to get your money. However, rates can change, you can lose paperwork (I have before), or they won't be open and you have to mail it (may never receive your money anyway). So it might be the better solution. Also, don't be afraid to try the food at Avoca. They have some awesome things. It's been a while since I went, but I remember eating the lunch and desserts with nothing being left in sight. It wasn't bad for you either, so then there is no guilt really. Love this store, I highly recommend it! read more

Quick spin out the N7, irish Times, breakfast bap to die for (quite literally with a massive sausage, bacon and deadly bread roll) and a couple of strong lattes. Love this place, although it can be a bit pricey its worth every penny. The food is just top notch! I frequent here quite often as its close to where i work, they have a takeaway deli and supermarket downstairs and upstairs they have a restaurant or a canteen style food area. I almost always get the rostisserie chicken sandwich (what can i say im a creature of habbit), its amazing and so fresh. As for the cakes, thats a different story altogether. If your on a diet, avoid avoid avoid. Its like the tree of temptation in there, they all look sooooooooo good. I am quite partial to an avoca caramel square, but my god all the cakes are unbelievable. An excellent Avoca. The only thing I'd knock it for is the price, but you can't knock it for that really. If you know Avoca, you know its a pricey brand. But you get what you pay for and that's quality. Quality foodstuffs. Quality kitchen and clothing wares. Quality customer service. On this occasion the lady behind the deli counter rang the restaurant to see if what I was after could be got from there and she was prepared to go get it for me while I waited. As a whole this is an impressive Avoca. Lots and lots of parking for the masses that are getting out of dodge. They were very clued in when picking this location at Rathcoole (as they were with their Kilmacanogue shop too). An excellent place to stop for some sit down food or some take away. It also serves as a great place to pick up a present if you are off down the country for a visit. Worth a look. read more

I cant help but stock up in there supermarket/deli before I leave and always leave with a cool gift or item of clothing. This time my sister was home from Oz and bought a coat. After a busy day out I was starving and just happened to google "Dublin best sandwich" and the rotisserie sandwich from Poulet Bonne Femme came up. I wasn't far from the N7 so took a detour to Avoca. The man slicing the famous sandwich meat was in a corner on ground level in the back of the shop. He advised that the most popular ones, pork crackling and roast beef, had sold out (I landed at about 2:00) but he had lamb, chicken and ham which he generously offered me a sample of each. Each one was flavourful and succulent. I chose the honey roast ham because I'm having a sweet tooth at the moment. After choosing the meat, I am still not sure if I was charmed or disappointed by the lack of 'filler' choices and condiments. One type of bread - sourdough, leaves and mustard or mayo. It was simple although I would have loved some red onion or pickles to dress it up. The sandwich was simply delicious. Top quality meat and homemade fresh bread. The larger deli counter next to the rotisserie man kindly gave me a chunk of cheddar without charge when I asked nicely. I also bought a huge piece of Italian biscuit cake which was divine. I am taking it from 5* to 4* because I recommend that the people at Poulet partner with the counter one step away to allow customers to add their favourite fillers. My hearty man size sandwich was €6.95 which is only marginally higher than one from a generic chain with inferior ingredients. I would have paid €1.00 more to load it up with some veg and chutneys! We had lunch in the Egg restaurant, the more upscale of two dining options in this Avoca store. The only drawback to the restaurant was the noise level - man, the acoustics are bad with noise bouncing all over the place. But, the food is truest wonderful, we enjoyed the crab salad - a hue mound of crab served on a selection of delicate greens that included pea shoots and other leaves, with grapefruit segments, all on top of a slice of their famous brown bread. The fresh fruit presse was to die for and we easily finished off the entire pitcher. The side of chunky chips (fries) was excellent - fresh and crunchy accompanied by mayonnaise flavored with horseradish. The service was excellent, the time it took to get our food was shot enough to satisfy the little person in our party and the option of fruit smoothie in the kids menu was great. read more

I am in love! This is one of my favorite places in the world. There is two very spacious floors. The downstairs is full of clothes, decor, food store and little bits and bobs, wheras upstairs is the cafe one side, the restaraunt on the other. I have been in here for lunch on a couple of occasions and I have never eaten nicer food anywhere. The food is very different and unusual, and is home cooked. Its presentation I think should earn it an award! The desserts, are absolutely heavenly! I cant think of anything Id rather do than sit with a cup of tea and their chocolate pudding with rasberries in the middle and homemade vanilla icecream! YUM! The great thing about it is, that every time you go there, there could be a different menu, always absolutely fab though! Been here many times - the food is ridiculously good - pricey but huge portions. I've never seen a better or more delicious selection of cakes, breads, scones. The hot meals and soups are fantastic. Try the pavlova - easily enough for 2 in a portion and awesome. Also French toast for breakfast - one of the nicest things I've had in a long long time. Avoca is a great find indeed. There is plenty for everyone. Two sit down restaurants, The Egg and The Birdcage. The Egg is waiter service and The Birdcage is more like a luxury self service type restaurant. Also on the ground floor, there is a Sushi Bar, Juice Bar and a Sandwich Bar. The have clothing, groceries, kitchen utensils, health food shop and even an in-house butchers. The is a fabulous outdoor balcony dining area if the weather is fine too. Avoca is very expensive but is worth every penny. Could not fault the place, highly recommended. read more
