I've been here twice and everyone has been very happy with the fish that was prepared. The first was for their shrimp and they were great. The second was for the mahi. Although it was frozen, it was excellent. Nowadays frozen fish can be as good if not better than the unthawed fish sold as "fresh". Also we got the smoked herring. A bit too salty for my liking. I bought 4 lbs. of whitefish recently and it was dry and crumbly. I emailed them twice to let them know and got no reply. I called and before i could finish telling him he put me on hold indefinitely. I called back he apologized and proceeded to do it again! He has my number but never bothered to call me back. The first batch I bought 2 months ago was fantastic. I doubled my purchase this most recent visit expecting the same quality. I spent 83 bucks there for this kind of treatment! The quality here as diminished. Expensive. My last visit I purchased 4crappies for 48$ They were disgusting. Black on the inside like old blood. Awful flavor. Tasted like old guts. Not a fishlike flavor. We ended up throwing the majority of it out. The always cut off the heads of your bluegills way down to almost the tail, even though you ask them to leave the heads on. This happened at least 4 times. They deny it. Very defensive. I'm over it. Very disappointed because of the price for the recent quality. They do not accept responsibility. I brought a little less than 6 lb of filleted salmon into their store to be smoked. I was told it would be somewhere around 5 or $6 a pound which I found acceptable. When I went in to pick up the fish I was charged $65 or roughly $11 a pound. I paid the price but I was greatly upset at being lied to as to what it would cost to have my salmon smoked. I would highly recommend that nobody take anything into this company to be smoked. I can only wonder what other price gouging they do. read more

Great place to get monster crab legs. They have other fish and occasionally I will get smoked lake trout or frozen mackerel steaks.

Worst customer service I've ever experienced on a regular basis in my life. I've never seen so many customers completely mistreated before every time I'm there it's like I met the Soup Nazis cousin the Fish Nazi! I don't even know whether or not I can trust the fish is wild caught or fresh never frozen??? Mike Donlan is the worst business owner I've ever met when it comes to building customer relationships. He seems to have no idea in the world how to smile and show hospitality. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. My last worst experience was today when I called in the way and he left me in hold for literally 15 minutes, then I get there and he left me outside in the cold with my dad for almost 10 minutes. The sign on the door says 8 customers inside at a time and he had only two in there he was serving, yet he was unwilling to unlock the door and let us in and we both had masks ready to go in. He doesn't even know how to communicate with his customers. It's like he doesn't care. We ended up leaving and so did two other car groups he made wait outside! I hope someone opens up a fresh fish market around Flint and puts him out of business someday. It won't be hard to do at all. All they would need to do is open across the street and treat people humanely. He can't even do that! read more

I was extremely disappointed with the fish I got from them the last time I was there. I had called ahead and asked if they had any fresh walleye. They assured me that they had some. I told them I had to have fresh because I was freezing it and taking it to Florida for my 95 year old father. When I got there one of the ladies that worked there was helping me get some fresh fish out of the case and the owner came over and said oh no you don't want this. I have some restaurant grade flash frozen walleye. I was skeptical and should have refused it. It was awful!! My poor dad could tell the difference immediately from fish I had purchased previously that wasn't already frozen. Beware if they try to sell you "RESTAURANT GRADE FLASH FROZEN ". I had a friend's Christmas party and I told him I'll get fresh Salmon so I called Mike at Donlan's and I had to pick it up before the party. I cooked the one filet and they loved it!!!!!!! I kept the other for myself and have been eating it raw with a little bit of vinegar, I'm so glad I tasted it raw.........pay the extra $$$ and get it fresh.... nothing compares. Next I'm getting fresh Whitefish :) I been cooking for 39 years....when the fish is fresh you can eat it raw :) Some people cringe when they hear raw....... I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I can't believe no1 reviewed this place before! it's really a hidden gem, they have fresh seafood, frozen items and a variety of condiments and spices. customer service is amazing, I'm not a big fish person, and I would ask for their advice, and they always managed to provide me with great tasting fish, even accommodating my cooking method, I like that when they do recommend sth, they give you more than 1 option with a different price range. anyways, thanks to this awesome place healthy tasty seafood dinners have become a stable at my house! read more

We've always gotten our crab legs for the family Christmas dinner and New Year's Eve oysters and scallops at Donlan's. This year we decided to add an extra crab leg occasion for our grand-daughter's birthday. They were some of the best we've had yet! And priced very reasonably for such a high quality item. I think I will just simplify my life and shop Donlan's for all of my seafood needs. I know I will never be disappointed with either product or service! read more

The store smells awful. The people that work there are rude. I purchased lobster pieces for $90, they were old and terrible and smelled awful after they thawed out. The people working there had to know they were no good. Also, catfish had metal taste to it. I spent over $100 in that store. I will never shop there again. Be smart, go elsewhere. read more
