This place has always been helpful. I went here as a kid and now I bring my kids here.

This is THE place in the twin cities if you need to purchase school uniforms. It's been around since 1952. I think my in-laws went shopping for uniforms when they grew up here in the TC, my hubby shopped here when he was growing up and now it's my son's turn. With it being so close to the start of the school year...they had plenty of staff eager to help locate where your particular schools uniform was located in the store. The place is huge but extremely organized. The only thing to note is their very restrict return policy. Happy school shopping! read more

I love this old school business. When I go there it reminds me of the small department stores from when I was a kid. They do their best to have every uniform for every private and charter school in the metro. I can't imagine what a task it must be to keep track of so many styles and patterns. They know it all and can get anything in a reasonable amount of time. I also love that they can look at your student and give a pretty accurate sizing estimate so your student doesn't have to try on a million outfits. The in house tailoring is also a huge plus! Donald's is an institution in the metro. Love that they are still outfitting students for education after all these years! read more

I have two boys starting at a new (private) school this fall. Knowing the month of June is the only time they offer sales, we went at the end of June. After three hours of my kids trying uniforms on, wiping tears due to the way they fit/felt on their bodies, I left with two dysregulated children and $980 worth of uniforms that I was told NEEDED to be purchased at Donald's by a Donald's employee. A couple weeks later, I was talking with a veteran mom from the school. She informed me that the uniform pants CAN be purchased at Donald's, but it is not required. With this new information, I ordered uniform pants that were comfortable, fit the school's policy & were more affordable. Today when I went to return the original pants I purchased to Donald's, I was met with a lot of tension from the moment Terri laid eyes on me since I was holding Donald's Uniform bags, indicating I was making a return. She was rude to me from the first word out of her mouth. She pressed me on WHY I was returning the pants (vs exchanging them for a different size.) I explained that the school does not require the pants to be purchase a Donald's as their policy states, they CAN be purchased there. She got very upset, informed me the school has a contract with them, and that I was wrong. I showed her the Internet website where it states that it is a CAN & not a MUST, she got further upset and continued to treat me like crap - threatening that she will be calling the new school about uniform pants. I kindly asked her to pause, and consider that not all people fit the same two pairs of pants. Sensory issues are a REAL thing that affect children in a REAL way. Don't mock me when I say my child struggles with sensory issues when wearing Donald's stiff pants. She told me they have sensory friendly pants, as they "have been dealing with sensory for 15 years. Not sure what that means - did they actually speak with children who have this struggle? As I said at Donalds, I hope you can learn to have an open heart & realize that by having this monopoly you are doing a disservice to families & children. Stop the madness!! Unfortunately this is the only place to get our school's uniforms. Must be some kind of iron clad contract. Their customer service is crap. I was told three different things by three different people the day I was there. They never have enough stock. The place is a crap hole in a crap hole neighborhood. They still hand write orders. I was treated very rudely by the older gentleman at the counter. I called looking for my order over two weeks after I ordered it. Took three times to get s call back from another rude person. Donald's: your bread and butter is private school families. Just because you have contracts and a corner on the market doesn't mean you can operate like this. You would think you would be adequately prepared since it's back to school time. read more

I was excited that there was a uniform store finally near us (Donald's west location in Eden Prairie). It was such a haul to go all the way to Educational Outfitters before. I initially had a hard time getting through to the store itself - the website was down for a while and the phone number on google said it was disconnected. Then it worked, but no one answered. I was finally able to get through to the store the following day (connected from the St. Paul location). I went to the EP location and it was busy (week before school started), but the staff was very helpful. They were quick, knew where to find what we needed, and gave me multiple sizes for my daughter to try on. They didn't have what we needed in stock, which was fine, so they ordered it from the St. Paul store. I got a call 2 days later that it was ready. My husband drive there and picked it up, brought it home, and when I looked in the bag, it was the wrong item (we ordered a jumper and this was a black, pleated skirt). I called the Eden Prairie store and the gal on the phone was very confusing - I couldn't understand if I had someone ELSE'S order (i.e. they gave us the wrong bag by mistake, and I could drive back there and pick up the right bag) or if they had ordered the wrong item from the St. Paul store. I finally had to stop her and ask her to clarify. She eventually transferred me to the St. Paul store to re-order the item (which I found slightly annoying - I wish they could have looked it up or handled it on the same call ... in addition, the Eden Prairie person never actually said, "Sorry," at any point during our conversation, which would have been nice). The St. Paul store representative was helpful and re-ordered the correct item. The bummer is that we will have to drive over there again (3rd time) to bring back the wrong item we received and get the right one. So I guess I give it an "okay" rating. We got what we needed and 2/3 of our customer service interactions were good, but it took us 3 trips to get our item. read more

I ordered new skirts for my daughter 2 weeks before school as I was told the school had changed the uniform from last year, (my daughter still has last years uniform, however). They said there was a delay as they did not have them in stock and they would have to order them. Fine. I was also relieved to here that that I would get free shipping to my house since my order was large enough. A few days ago, a store rep called to say that there would be further delays and that I should come in to the store to pick them up to assure that I would receive before the first day of school. No call but I went in anyway. Had trouble finding the order. Once they tracked it down, they told me the skirts came in but they mailed them anyway. When I said, a rep called me a fews days earlier to come in, they said "wasn't me". A few minutes later I did get a call from that particular rep telling me that they decided to mail them anyway, they did not make a mistake since I had told them in passing my daughter still had last years skirts. To say it is not their mistake, implies that it is mine which I find unacceptable. My accidental disclosure that I had old skirts should have made no difference. As a workaround, if the mail was slow, that I could come in and purchase another skirt (at my expense) to ensure the proper outfit on the first day of school. Communication and customer service in this case was very poor. Telling me the communication error was not a mistake (which implies is my mistake) then offering me the "opportunity" to spend additional money to make sure my daughter gets the right clothing on time is also poor. Always friendly knowledgeable staff that make school shopping quick and painless! Just wish the locations were better. Seriously the St. Paul location is in the ghetto! And Eden Prairie is way too far away! The pricing really is quite high. I've recently discovered that navy blue uniform skirts and pants are available at multiple online locations for as much as 70% less and are better quality (skirts are terrible quality). If your child wants the plaid skirts or the logo polos...this is the only option. read more

This review is for the quality of the products they sell, not for the business necessarily (though they need to make better business choices with who they get their products from). The quality of the uniforms really is surprisingly terrible. The uniforms are stiff, uncomfortable, and are already unraveling after the first wash. You can tell they are cheaply made from the second you hold one. The coloring of their fleece is not consistent (some "red" is actually pink and they are still selling it). If you have a choice (we didn't -- Donald's was our only choice through our school) -- I absolutely recommend Land's End instead. The Lands End products are EXCELLENT: more comfortable, cuter, much higher quality, and Lands End actually has way better sales to top it all off. Donald's -- you can do MUCH better, so please increase the quality of your products. read more
