Save yourself the trouble; don't go to this doctor. I saw Dr. Burt a few months ago because I was dizzy constantly for a solid month. I was told it's just something that happens during allergy season or if I had bad cold. Was given some prescriptions and my dizziness went away! I was cured! Fast forward to a few weeks after when all the symptoms came back. Dr Burt told me that may happen and to just return when it did. I called... no answer. I called again, left a voicemail, nothing. I've called a minimum of 8 times and I've left 2 messages, no one has ever picked up or returned my calls. At my wits end, I called my primary doctor and got another ENT and immediately noticed a huge improvement. Dr. Burt simply looked at my ears and gave me a diagnosis. My new ENT scheduled a hearing test, along with a handful of other tests on my first visit where I was diagnosed with vestibular migraines. They've been so encouraging and helpful in my quest to get better. When I mentioned my previous ENT, by name, I was informed of how many other patients they had from Dr. Burt and how, essentially, he was only in business still because he's the only ENT in the area. It's now been at least 2-3 months since I've called and I have yet to even get a return phone call. You'd think a doctor's office that had no patients outside of myself when I visited would need to answer the phones. read more

Friendly guy but not knowledgeable at all...was not willing to look into any reasonings on why I was getting DAILY headaches which was originally thought to be sinus related. Was told from him that I do not have allergies at all, which I do, and he was not very professional. Went to see El Camino ENT in San Jose and they found some very major things going on in my sinuses that Dr Burt would never have found because he showed no interest or care in finding out what was causing my migraines or problems. As someone who works in the medical profession myself I was very skeptical of the things he said which is why I went to a different ENT and glad I did. Please be wary when seeing this doctor. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Dr. Burt was listed with my insurance company. He was local so I made an appointment. I shared with two friends that I was going to have sleep apnea surgery with Dr. Burt. Both suggested I see someone else because they had a spouse and a friend who had bad experiences with the doctor. I did not heed their advice. I had one unsuccessful surgery with Dr. Burt, and then had a second unsuccessful surgery with Dr. Burt. In addition, I was stupid enough to ask him to perform rhinoplasty on my nose as I had a deviated septum, and I did want to improve the appearance of my nose. My insurance does not pay for rhinoplasty so this was out of my pocket. To reiterate, I had two unsuccessful sleep apnea surgeries and two rhinoplasty procedures. (I forgot to mention I contracted a staph infection along the way.) I went to a specialist in Oregon to solve my medical issues. My nose does not look any different than it did before and I still have a hole in my septum. I have to take part of the responsibility for this mishap, as I was warned by others. After my visit to the other specialist I emailed Dr. Burt TWICE to share my feelings and concerns. To date, I have not received a reponse. I think that says it all. read more

I went to this doctor for a suspected ear infection and he prescribed antibiotics. My issue with him is regarding billing. He sent a bill in June for the office visit and my husband sent a check to pay it in June. Then we got the same bill in July and again in August. I thought perhaps the check had gotten lost in the mail so I sent a new check in August and left a message for Dr. Burt asking if they had received the first check. No one returned my phone call. When I went to cancel the first check a week later (my mistake to wait a week), I noticed that both checks had been cashed. Again, I left a phone message describing the billing error and also asked how our money could be reimbursed, and again, no one returned my call. Very unprofessional to keep billing and not apply the first payment, and then to apply the second check without even noticing there would be a surplus on the account, and very unprofessional not to return phone calls. read more

My family has been treated by Dr. Burt for seven years and he is always responsive and supportive. He is someone that really understands allergies, sinus sufferers and is compassionate. He has also been a great resource for audio processing and informed about natural therapies. Another extremely important part to picking a physician, or specialist, is their office staff! The staff at Dr. Burt's are not only professional they are warm and friendly. They go out of their way to squeeze you in and really care about the patients who are seen at the office. This really makes for a pleasant experience and worry free as they handle all billing and I have yet to have any issues; even with something like a surgery. read more

If there were negative stars I would use them. I would never recommend this Doctor. I went to him for a year and it was a nightmare. Never on time for appt., hour or more waits including for a scheduled surgery. He put me on allergy meds, then couldn't order me continued meds because he didn't pay the drug company. This information was given to me by his office staff. Office cleanliness is the worst I've seen and I work in a hospital ER. Bloody suction tubes not changed for the year I went there. Algae growing on the faucets, etc. Just to name a few things. Office staff was good. read more

Today I missed a call from this office. My first visit was on 10/18. I called them the next day about how I have issues with antibiotics and could I wait until after the CT scan to see if they were really needed. I called the following week because like I said they never called me back. Well they never did call back about my antibiotics question. However guess what they finally called for A MONTH LATER? To FINALLY set up the CT Scan. WTH, anybody that's had sinus issues knows how painful it can be. Dr. Burt never retuned my calls, and obviously doesn't give a hoot about how long the issue is prolonged because if I hadn't seen another ENT I would have waited A MONTH for a CT scan. Dr. Burt seems to be very knowledgeable in his job. He diagnosed my son within minutes (where the pediatrician could find what was wrong with him). My only negative comment is to his staff. They are rude. They don't say good morning, they wont even look at you. I don't know why I actually looked at Dr. Burt's yelp rating, after all my family and I have been seeing him for quite some time, however I did. When I did I couldn't believe that I was reading the review of Dr. Donald Burt, located in Gilroy, CA. I have known Dr. Burt ever since my son broke his nose (about 15 years ago). I have found him to be knowledgeable, caring, and very skilled. My son's nose never looked better and functions perfectly! Since then, Dr. Burt has been our ENT with wonderful results. When I was singing, I would walk in and ask him to perform miracles. Laden with congestion, sore throat, etc. I told the Doctor that my performance was in four days... sure enough he'd have me up and singing... What a Blessing! I have also had my daughter see him for chronic ear and throat infections. It is such a relief to see your children being taken care of so professionally, without having to wait months to see the doctor. Another reason to seek out Dr. Burt is that Dr. Burt speaks on "Your Level" and never looks at a patient as "beneath him". In the past years the relief that Dr. Burt has given to me and my family and friends deserves highest praise, he is truly, one of a kind these days. He is a consummate professional with a bedside manner that most doctors only wish they could attain. I really do not know who those "single star" reviews were talking about, it could not have been about Dr. Donald Burt in Gilroy. The only time I have had to wait longer than a few moments was if there was an atypical situation with a patient, or if the staff (who also seems to understand the urgency of some problems) "fits you in" with his already planned schedule. Receptionist service is one of the worst I ever had. First visit was ok, doctor ordered CT scans. I was waiting for a week for it, then decided to make a call to check - lady on a phone said THE person who create request to insurance company will be only next week and nobody can help me. So practically it is just 2 weeks waiting for somebody just to call insurance company. My next step was to go to Stanford and make CT scans there(luckily I had request from another doctor). Same day CT is done O call to Dr.Burt office, saying that results are ready and you just ned to request them from Stanford simply by calling them and sending fax. Ok. Again next week(4 business days after) calling to check whats going on in the morning. Some lady answer phone, saying nobody called them, but she will do it after her lunch. Weird, OK. Calling at 3:30PM - lady again saying she did not had a chance to call them, but will try now. Calling 45 mins after - after 3rd attempt automatic answer enabled and says office is now closed. It looks like they detect my phone number and no longer willing to answer. I strongly recommend anyone who value it's time TO STAY AWAY from this place. Maybe doctor is ok, but it does not worth it to go thru this. read more

Dr. Donald Burt has another name- Family Center Ent Group. Avoid both. I visited Dr Burt 3 times as I had a severe sinus infection. He prescribed a powerful antibiotic the first time. He prescribed it again the 2nd time. He talked me into taking a cat scan from the machine in his office on the 2nd visit. He prescribed yet another even more powerful antibiotic the 3rd time. Here's how it worked out- I never got the 3rd antibiotic- his entire office staff no showed, and I tried and tried, but he kept sending the prescription for the 2nd antibiotic to the pharmacy. I gave up on him and went to a real physician for help. He also stated that he was primary with United Health Care. He further told me prior to the test that I was 100% covered. I came to recently find out he is off the UHC list and he's charged me $500+ for that appt and test out of pocket. After I checked in advance. They lied to me. Now they are not helping me. His new staff is unhelpful and nasty. I'm going to have to file complaints with the Medical Board and Insurance Fraud division. Want to experience this as you are feeling poorly and want professional help to get well? If that's the case, this is the guy for you. read more

Personally, I do not recommend this doctor. To sum up my opinion, he knows what he's talking about but would rather take the long route to get more money from the insurance company. I recently had a terrible experience with him and do not plan on going back. I had had mono for about 2 months so my family doctor recommended an ENT doctor. Well we went and for my cough, he put me on stomach medicine (which i did not take). At my check up appointment, he didn't even mention the medication or ask how it was working. I informed him that i was having trouble popping my ears and that my hearing was blurry. He brought me in for a hearing test and of course, my left ear was plugged. Then he brought me in for a very expensive CT scan. We had a follow up appointment about a week later and he didn't even mention the CT scan OR my Eustachian tube, which was why he was doing the scan. After we brought it up, he looked at the Ct images and went back to his original conclusion that i have sinusitis. That was my very last appointment with him. Ever. Overall, my experience with him was very bad. Most of the times i went, the service was pretty good and their computerized kiosk was quick and user friendly. The only bad thing that i have to say about the service is that at my last appointment, they were running very late. My appointment was at 4:00 and i signed in at 4:01. They did not get us in until 4:53 and the appointment took less than 10 minutes. Although he is claimed as this great doctor with all these awards, i would not recommend him! read more

As an RN of over 40 years I, along with so many others, can recommend Dr. Burt. Since I turned 60+, I began having recurrent ear infections for no reason. I have small eustacian tubes, and had this problem as a child, but not as an adult for many years. He has taught me how to avoid infections, and how to cure the incessant itching that comes with older age. It is so incredibly simple! A few drops of olive oil to the ears every week or so, and voila! No more dry itching ear canals! He is extremely compassionate, and knows how to help. I think the problem with some people is, they don't want or know how to have compassion for an extremely hard working human being, who himself, might just be exhausted sometimes. He will ALWAYS squeeze you in to see you, and I agree with another review, he has an old-fashioned heart who is not a Doctor for the money, but for the love of being able to help, and often times heal people. I was told my child's allergy drops would be done within a week of his allergy test and that I will receive a call when they are ready... it has now been over a month after multiple weekly phone calls, excuses and promises that the doctor would call me back. I have not heard back nor do I have an explanation why the drops are not ready, whether they were ordered at all and what exactly is going on. I am completely in the dark and I will absolutely not be returning to this office. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Burt and his staff. I personally have been a patient of his since early 2005 when quite frankly he saved my life. No other doctor (and I had been to two prior to him) could figure out why I was having such bad nose bleeds. He found the problem and via surgery took care of it for me. My husband had been to him years prior to this and is the only ENT he will see. Our boys have been to him since they were very small with sinus infections and allergies. I only wish he were a general practitioner, I go to him before my regular doctor because he is such an attentive doctor. His staff also are all very kind and curious and make sure you get an appointment with the doctor not making you wait for a week or more like many offices do. His personality plays a big part in how we feel about him. He makes you feel highly important to him, not like he's too good for you. My boys are so comfortable around him that when at home if they are talking about him they find themselves calling him Uncle Burt. As long as Dr. Burt has a practice our family will be his patients. read more

F- for Doctor. I'm new to the area. Needed help. Got an appointment. Arrived 15 minutes early. Waited 40 minutes. Unacceptable. Rude.

Dr. Burt has been our family ENT for over ten years with only positive results. He is a very knowledgeable, professional, and caring physician that listens to his patients. I question the bad reviews as from other patients; maybe they wanted a quick fix or they just didn't mesh. My daughter has had her nose broken several times by dogs, messing around in a pool, and a collision while playing volleyball; the last one caused the sides of her nose to collapse and gave her two black eyes. I called his office from the school parking lot and they told me to bring her over immediately. They had her in an examination room right away and after a thorough exam, Dr. Burt had her scheduled for surgery in two days with all of the necessary paperwork and tests ready to go. He told us exactly what was going to happen and why. The surgery went off without a hitch. Dr. Burt was also very accessible after surgery to deal with any concerns. My daughter was also blessed with humongous tonsils. They were never taken out by her pediatricians or Dr. Burt because there wasn't a need. Recently they became the problem and they had to come out. The surgery and recovery went along so textbook perfect that around week two, I allowed her to go to my sister's in SF and Madera for a vacation. The problems came when the normal sloughing off of the scabs began. For some odd reason her body decided that it should all go in huge sections. This caused minor bleeding and a great deal of pain. Dr. Burt was called by my sister in SF the middle of the night due to bleeding and he had her go through steps to see if it could be controlled before rushing off to the ER. It worked! For a couple days all was fine, until the other half came off. My niece called Dr. Burt and got everything together while my son grabbed my daughter. Off they rushed off to Madera ER. A very long story short, our ER doctor was new and just wanted to operate to stop the heavy bleeding without trying anything else. If the ER doctor hadn't been so blatantly ignorant of even the basics of her case and the generalities of the operation, I probably would have had more confidence in him as a doctor. As a surgeon, it wasn't happening. I was so upset that I once again called Dr. Burt to confirm the plan of attack since the ER doctor was supposed to be working with him. This is when it paid off having an experienced doctor that knows his patients and has worked in limited supply situations. Dr. Burt had a plan. First, we would try tea bags. He had the nurses place soaked tea bags at the back of her throat to stop the bleeding. It worked! My daughter and I left the ER after ten+ hours of intensive bleeding and pain without the trauma of surgery. I drove her over to see Dr. Burt that morning. It was then I found out then that the ER doctor didn't even call or have his staff call Dr. Burt to let him know how their mutual patient was doing (all our phones were dead or we would have done it). Dr. Burt was awake all night waiting to hear back from any of us. Dr. Burt and his office staff honestly care. He doesn't throw medicine at you to fix the symptoms; he is looking to fix the problem. Yes, every once in a while there is a little longer waiting time to be seen, but he uses these patient conversations to get to know and observe the patient to make a more complete diagnosis. I have been a patient of Dr. Burt's my entire life & I am currently 25 years old. I have had several complex surgeries preformed by Dr. Burt such as a sinus surgery that fixed my deviated septum and a tonsillectomy. I am and will always be truly thankful for such a brilliant doctor to rely on. I will spare you from the details of my condition but please understand that Dr. Burt has saved my life multiple times now along with my older brothers. He has dramatically improved the quality of our lives. He has given me the ability to breath clearer then ever before through my nose, and I no longer get reoccurring sinus infections like I once did. After the tonsillectomy my immune system found a new norm and I no longer get sick all the time. I am happier and healthier then ever now because of him. He is completely genuine, easy to talk to, very knowledgable and extremely talented. Receptionist service is unsatisfactory. I made an appointment and came in for a visit and was told I need another referral. They should have told be prior to making an appointment would have saved me time making a trip to the doctors. Another time, waited for the doctor that never showed up and receptionist never told me that the doctor would be there or delayed? Sat waiting! Had other problems with my prescriptions being filled up, because the receptionist did not get the fax and approval from doctor. We just recently moved to gilroy and my daughter was previously seen in San Jose and had surgery there already. She became sick with tonsillitis again and searched E. N. T near me and this office popped up. I called in the morning and they told me they could see her that very same day. We arrived to our appointment a few minutes late (I took a wrong turn lol) but that was not an issue and was seen within minutes. The doctor was extremely knowledgeable and said he would love to continue her care going forward! He took his time with us, did a very thorough exam and was very warm towards my daughter, she is only 3 and that's huge to me. I would highly recommend this practice to any parent! I had an appointment today 10/04/2016 at 2:00 PM with Dr. Burt. I showed up at 1:50 and was shown into an examination room at 2:00. Forty minutes later, thinking I had been forgotten, I opened the door and went back to the waiting room and reception desk. The office was deserted with the exception of the two receptionists. One of the ladies told me that Dr. Burt had not arrived yet, that he had told her he would be there at 2:00. I have never considered doing a review on anyone or any business but I felt compelled to write one now since I am angry for the 3.5 hours that this doctor and office wasted out of my life. I just wanted an evaluation of my hearing so I made an appointment since he was local and I figured that it should be an easy evaluation. I figured give this country doctor a try. My appointment was at 9 am - the office was empty and they collected a check for my office visit - and was put into an exam room thinking that he was tending to other patients already in the other rooms. An hour and a half passed by so I went into the WR to inquire about how much longer and told that he was not even in the office!!!!!! Mind you, I did ask when I made the appointment how long a first visit takes and was told 20 minutes will be enough since I had to be at work by 11 am. I left very angry since the staff never told me he was not even at the office, never apologized and just let me wait. Very rude and unprofessional. He did call me 45 minutes after I left the office (he just got into the office) saying that he had to deal with some issues regarding his new electronic charting system and that he can see me at his next available appt 3 days later. I said ok, give this country doctor another try. I was given an appt for 10 am and I informed him that I needed to be at work at 1 pm and he assured me that I will get out in time and that my check will not be cashed. The waiting room was full and I waited an hour and 15 minutes to get into an exam room - only 2 of us left in the waiting room - that 2nd patient came in 10 minutes before they called me into a room. Once in the exam room, I waited another 45 minutes and fuming at this time, I went into the waiting room again to inquire as to when I will be seen - I was met with blank stares and was asked, "he has not seen you yet?" To make matters worse, I saw the patient who was left in the waiting room when I was called in, being ushered out of an exam room by this doctor, saying good bye to her, so he saw her first!!!! When he was told that I had been waiting for a while, he just shrugged and without apologizing, said, "ok, I will see you now, it's just for wax removal right?" I sarcastically said no and asked for my check that I forgot to ask for from the original visit and was told, they will mail it to me. I said no, I want it now and was hesitantly informed by the staff that it has been cashed!!!! Ok, I think that there is something illegal cashing a check for service not provided. I looked at him and reminded him that he informed me that he was not going to cash it and all he did was shrug and unprofessionally blamed the staff and said "I told them not to cash it." I must admit that I was only introduced to his unprofessional manners/staff and sloppy appearance but as a one of the providers in three local ERs, I have refrained and continuously refrain from referring anyone else to this office. I know how it is to be a medical provider and I also know how it is to properly conduct yourself and run a medical practice. read more

My husband, daughter and myself are all patients of Dr. Burt. He repaired a 40+ year old deviated nasal septum expertly on my husband, removed a nasal polyp my daughter had that was causing multiple sinus infections recognizing it on her first visit, and has put tubes in my ears and attended to my issues as a frequent flyer in his office. He is a strong advocate for his patients and bends over backwards to put the patient first and to bring them back to health. There are not many ENT's in the South Bay area and before we found Dr. Burt other offices couldn't give an appointment for six weeks no matter how much pain you were experiencing. When you have an ear infection that is intolerable. Dr. Burt somehow manages to see me the same day and only once or twice did I have to wait until the next day. If you have multiple issues he is careful to consider your overall picture. I am so thankful for his help and his warm, caring attention to the entire family. read more
