There is an Equestrian space here where you can rent horses to have small children ride. The Police Department also have their horses there and all of them are so beautiful! Gorgeous Royal Palms line the park in a most majestic way. The walking trails here are lovely as well, going from the canal to the wildlife. This scenic park is chock full of enjoyment for the entire family. I love this park!

What made the day even better was the atmosphere. The park wasn't overcrowded, and everyone seemed to share the same unspoken understanding: slow down, breathe, and enjoy the space. It felt calm, respectful, and genuinely restorative. Afterward, the experience flowed seamlessly into the nearby plaza, which is full of charming, niche restaurants and unique shops.

There are two sections of the park, north and south. The south section bayside which I visited is on the promenade that runs along the Intracoastal. There is a paved walkway and the Aventura Community Green Garden. Residents of Aventura can lease a a 4 x 12 foot garden plot for $110 a year. The northern section of Founders Park is for Aventura residents only. There is a welcome center; a quarter-mile, four station exercise trail; ADA accessible playground; sun shelters; tennis courts, and a multipurpose athletic field for baseball, softball, football or soccer. The park is also the home of the Founders ParkSplashPad, a water play area inside the park. Admission is free for Aventura residents and non residents used to be able to pay to use this section of the park but this year they closed to anyone that does not have ID saying they live in Aventura. This is the first city park I have ever come across in Florida that is closed to non residents. This is probably a 5 star facility if you live here but if you are from outside of the city you are not getting in the north side of this fenced in park.

It opened in 2000 as…read morethe city's first park and it was named in honor of Gilbert Samson, the first mayor of Sunny Isles Beach. The land for the park was acquired with grant funding from the Florida Communities Trust Preservation 2000 Program and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's, Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program. Note that this park does not have its own lot but you can park at one of two nearby public lots, then cross the street. Park amenities at Samson Oceanfront Park include beach access, shower, benches, boardwalk, pavilion with tables, restrooms, water fountains, playground, public art, sand volleyball court on the beach, vending machines, and life guard. From the park, you can take a short walk down the wide beach to see the Newport Pier where there is a restaurant and it is a fun place to take in all the beach, water, and fishing activities. I normally head north to go to the beach but Samson Oceanfront Park is so nice it could make a girl head south.

The other day I drove over to Haulover Park to see what they offer. It is a huge park. I took the…read moreexit to the west not knowing there is also an exit to the east! So I only saw one side of the park, which means that I will need to drive over there again to see the rest of it on the other side. The west side has the Bill Bird Marina with hundreds of boats docked there. From the posted signs, it looks like you need to become a member in order to use the Marina and its huge parking lot. I do not own a boat so this did not apply to me. I saw a gentleman flying his kite as it was a windy but hot day. There was plenty of grassy area for kite lovers to show off their colorful and creative kites. There is also a beach area further to the north for families. I didn't see any vendors so bring a picnic basket. You can see the inlet with boats passing by. I also saw about 75 birds around some left-over rain water in the parking lot by the marina. They were so calm and beautiful. Looked like seabirds and another type of bird. I took a picture of them. Next time I will visit the east side and report back.

This well appointed State Park is located between the Oleta River and Biscayne Bay. The land Oleta River State Park sits on has historical significance. The first human inhabitants were drawn to the river in 500 B.C, when its shores served as a campground for Tequesta Indians. The river was named Big Snake Creek in the 1800's and was part of the route used by federal troops in the Second Seminole War to travel south from Loxahatchee. In 1881, Captain William Hawkins Fulford explored the river and settled in the area known today as North Miami. By the 1890s the town of Ojus had sprung up along the river along with pineapple and vegetable farms. An Indian trading post was in what is now Greynolds Park. In 1922 the river was renamed the Oleta River. Once a neglected former development site, Oleta River State Park was opened in 1986. One of its earliest and most famous visitors was Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Today Oleta River State Park is more than 1,000 acres and is managed by the Florida Park Service who provides outdoor recreation compatible with conserving and protecting the park. The Oleta River is designated a "Florida Outstanding Waterway," and it is the only remaining natural river in Miami-Dade County. You can rent kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards and explore the mangrove trails in the estuary or bike the miles of paths that run throughout the park. If you are looking for a less active day, you can relax on the sandy beach. Other activities include picnicking, fishing, and camping in air conditioned cabins. The park is also home to the historic Blue Marlin, established as a commercial fishing camp in the 1930's. The original owner of the Blue Marlin was Daniel Diefenbach who was mayor of North Miami Beach in the 1950's. The Blue Marlin closed in the 1980's but it reopened in 2007. Visitors to Oleta River State Park can enjoy smoked fish and wraps. Admission to Oleta River State Park is $6. The park is open 8 a.m. until sundown, 365 days a year. Plan on arriving early because if the park reaches capacity it will close and won't reopen until the next day.

Town Center Park is a 3 acre park located on the west side of Collins Avenue…read more The land the park sits on was once a shopping mall. After it was demolished the property was donated to the city by the developer and turned into this tranquil park. The park is completely fenced in which is a great safety feature. Inside is a playground, fitness trail with exercise equipment, meditation garden for adults only open daily from 9 AM-6 PM, public art, restroom, and gazebo. Much of this park is state-protected wetland area. The only negative of this park is that the parking lot is very small in relation to the popularity of the park. One other thing is you have to watch out for kids on scooters. Parents allow their kids to ride them at break neck speeds on the exercise path and several times I found myself having to jump out of the way. This area is mainly high rise condos on the beach so a green space like Town Center Park is essential for having a place to take the kids to play outside and for exercise.

Like the other parks in Aventura, this park is surrounded by a fence. I found free street parking across the street and finally found the entrance to the park in the back. The north entrance to the park is temporarily closed. This park is adjacent to the promenade which runs along the water and is great for fish and boat watching. Park amenities include a rest room, an open play area, a large playground with climbing structures and slides with a protective overhead cover, and an adult exercise area for anyone 13 and older. This park like all of Aventura parks is meticulously maintained. Come out and enjoy Peace Park with a picnic, exercise, and play.
