One of our new favorite spots! They have an amazing variety of tacos that accommodate all allergy needs. We love all three of the agua frescas. They have so much flavor! Do not miss the coconut flan! Smooth and creamy. So different. The owners and staff are so lovely. Such a great addition to East Rock!

Don Rene Taqueria has a well-reviewed location in Milford, and recently, they opened in East Rock Market food hall in New Haven as well. I visited East Rock for the fantastic $2 taco Tuesday special. How fantastic? My brisket taco and carne asada taco are normally $4.50 apiece, and my pastor is normally $4. So more than 50% off fantastic. The meat could have been a bit warmer, but every other aspect of the tacos was very good. The meats were tender and juicy. The pastor had a unique seasoning vibe with familiar warm spices. It really hit home. The corn tortillas were substantial and good. The toppings varied a bit by taco, which I'm a big fan of. The carne and pastor tacos each had a traditional cilantro and red onion topping, but the pastor also had pineapple and the carne had a slight charred tomato sauce. The brisket had red cabbage and a tomatillo based salsa. Everything worked. Very good tacos. At $2, these tacos were a great value. If the serving size is the same at full price, I suspect, some people are going to note that the tacos cost more than they do for a similar serving size at some great spots. I don't know if this is always the same serving size by the way. And also, tacos are going to cost a bit more inside a nice sit down market like East Rock because expenses are higher than they would be for a successful food truck. Don Rene Taqueria is a great addition to East Rock Market. If you're not already eating at East Rock Market, you should be. They have very good pizza, sushi, tacos and coffee. And while I haven't tried the sandwich spot yet, it also has a great reputation. So it's an everybody gets a very good version of what they're in the mood for kind of place. There's a free parking lot that I almost always get into. And driving to East Rock Market is a snap, especially if you're coming from the north on 91 South like me. 4.5 Stars

Right in S Broad St. the location couldn't be any better with parking right in the front…read more I got the horchata it was so fresh and yummy. For small plates, we got the esquites and sweet plantains. The esquites was delicious. For the sweet plantains, they asked if we wanted the crema + queso fresco on the side but it still came on top. Plantains were alright, wasn't loving them though because they were drenched in the toppings. Kale salad was huge! Yummy and fresh. The food came out so quick. I love that they use corn tortillas for the tacos. The pork belly taco was drenched in kimchi, not my favorite but a good cut of pork belly. I like the lamb taco tasted just like a mini lamb gyro. The baja fish taco was my favorite though, it's comes in a huge slab. it was so good I ordered another. I love the chipotle sauce the Baja fish taco comes with too. The music was awesome too, such a vibe. A lot of EDM, felt like all they were missing was a disco ball. Very delicious, would come back.

Convenient for dine in or take out. We found the plantains to be well fried and deliciously sweet. The ribeye quesadilla was good chunks of beef, but while good quality, seemed to lack seasoning. Service was friendly but missed several things in our order. Had to catch before we left we had ordered a drink. Unfortunately did not find out until we got home they had not bagged the dipping sauce for the birria tacos.

I've been to Te Amo Tequila Bar & Taco more than 10 times, and I still love it every single visit…read more I've come for happy hour, brunch, and dinner and I honestly have zero complaints. It's always a vibe. Most recently, I stopped by with a coworker for drinks and to catch up. Around 9ish, a DJ came in and started playing fun music, which took the energy up another level. It turned into the perfect mix of relaxed and lively. And let's talk about the drinks their spicy guava margarita is still my absolute favorite. It's the perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and refreshing. If you're looking for good food, great drinks, and a fun atmosphere that never disappoints, this is the spot. I'll definitely keep coming back.

But when I try to explain to people that the way ingredients fall on a plate of nachos actually matters, people look at me like I'm nuts. Look at this. One look and you know the bottom layer is doomed. They were generous with the cheese, it even seeped through the bottom layer, but then they exiled the cilantro (why is it even on there?) to one side like it's trapped behind a mountain range. Then you got the salsa, sour cream and guac in plastic containers forming an aggressive and completely unnecessary alliance on its border. Why put plastic containers on top of the food to begin with. Im not being crazy, this is physics. None of the ingredients tasted like real food anyway. I don't know where New Haven gets its produce but it all tastes like it was 3D printed. All else: waitresses were incredibly sweet. music was incredibly annoying.

It's hard to make a quesadillas stand out, the ingredients are pretty standard and most taste…read morepretty similar. However, my quesadilla from here stands out from the rest. It was the most flavorful and freshest quesadilla I've ever had. The pico was amazing and the ingredient combination was just right. I especially loved the avocado, which was included, but is typically only offered at an additional price. To be fair, I'm not too adventurous when it comes to food and my go-to Mexican dish is typically a quesadilla, so I've had more than my fair share. Basically, I consider myself an above-average, experienced quesadilla critic. In a world filled of dozen of food trucks in Long Wharf, I picked this particular one, and I'm so happy I did. The menu looked good, the truck looked clean and the line wasn't too long (I'm not sure why). They also take credit cards, which was an added bonus. With a drink, my meal came to $9 and I loved every bite and I'm totally full. The BF ordered from another truck, but ended up getting an additional chicken taco here. He enjoyed the green sauce topping he put on, but it was a bit too spicy for me. I have to come back and try something else from here soon.

The meat was super tender, like melt-in-your-mouth good, and the portion was definitely satisfying. I will say, at first I wished the broth had a bit more flavor on its own but once I added the lime and the sauce that came with it? Game over. It gave it the perfect kick and brought everything together. Overall, such a creative and comforting dish. I'd definitely order it again. If you're into noodles and want to try something different, this is it.
