My husband asked for a shredded beef burrito and a hard taco meat and cheese only. His entire order was wrong. My food was good it's just very disappointing because we have come here many times and the normal server we get is amazing. The woman who sat us is the one who took care of us, it was awful... she had to be asked to bring the dessert that comes with the check, when she just took it to other tables. Popped in for lunch, and was pleasantly surprised, based on its location. Everything was good. Nothing was over the top, and I have my Mexican joints that I'd rank above this. I ordered the lunch avocado tostada with chicken, but they forgot my chicken. I shared that with the server and she brought me out a bowl full of chicken. It wasn't worth the price for their guacamole they put on it. I know it isn't their fresh table side guac, but this tasted like powered avocado mixed with water and an onion. My kid got the kids quesadilla - it was super cheesy, but greasy (like paper towel on a pizza greasy). She loved their rice though, along with the mild salsa. The inside of the restaurant is nice. It also has plenty of "instagram worthy" walls - like "tequila made me do it". It's an upbeat casual vibe with attentive servers! I think everyone has their favorite Mexican spot, but this didn't check the boxes for me. If I was in the area, I'd go again and try something new, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

Food and atmosphere great. Went to pay and they had table side point of sale (POS). The price felt somewhat steep for our queso, guacamole, kids quesadillas, ACP, beer and birria (+$80). I tipped 18% of the offered 18/25/30 options. Was told the POS machine wasn't working, then when they swiped my card with a new machine "everything was fine." My card showed a much higher amount paid, so I asked for a receipt. They dodged the table for 5-10 minutes, then when I approached the waiter he handed me a receipt wrapped around a $10 bill and said it rang up wrong. I came with my husband, and they thought our appetizer was the meal I'm assuming because they never took our order so we just left. Spent 70$ on appetizers, and drinks that took 30 minutes to get which was not worth it. Way overpriced. Would not recommend. Azteca or tequilas Mexican food in Gastonia is way better than this place. Do not waste your time or money here. The people who work here are clueless, and don't understand how a business works or how customer service works. The wet lettuce soaked her taco salad's shell bowl and the whole salad was watery was totally tasteless too. Service was ok but food WAS NOT GOOD AT ALL. My friend asked for not tomatoes and got tomatoes even after they replaced the first salad with tomatoes. After a gender reveal party in Gastonia we decided we needed more food than just cake and ice cream . Someone suggested Don Pedro. It is in a small shopping center that I would have never noticed. We had 12 people and only had to wait about 15 minutes. After we were seated it took a while to get our drinks, but other than that the service was really good. I got the arroz pollo. Let me tell you that the portion was huge and the flavors were amazing! I could only eat half of it and I ordered it without the tortillas. My husband got the number 20 and devoured the whole plate. From the outside this spot looks like many similar Mexican restaurants you may have driven past. But once you get inside you will see the have gone far above the normal interior design. Came in on Cinco De Mayo and was greeted by a live DJ outdoors and plenty of happy folks waiting their turn. Our name was called quicker than anticipated and for that I was very happy. As busy as it was, all the staff were still very upbeat, accommodating and courteous. The waiter helped me by picking the finalist from the three dishes I chose. We ended up choosing the Arroz Con pollo. I switched out the tomato sauce it traditionally comes with for cheese at the suggestion of our waiter. Great choice. Great dish, a great mix of flavors to satisfy your taste pallet. Yummy! The shrimp Fajitas was also flavorful and plentiful. Amazingly they served it sizzling but was not so hot that it burned the dish or allowed it to dry out. The drink was good (put me on my butt. Thankful for my designated driver). Dined here for the first time last night and it was great! The restaurant is very clean and offers outdoor seating. All of the staff were pleasant and helpful with menu selections. We choose the queso dip and guacamole dip which was very fresh. I appreciated the warm tortilla chips and refill without having to ask. All of our food came out quickly and tasted delicious! I was literally about to POP because I ate so much food but I have no regrets. I highly recommend this location and will be dining with them again! read more

I have been to 3 different Don Pedros, but this location is my favorite. Anyone that is not a fan of the restaurant needs to stick with the specialties as they are flavorful and always delicious. My fave is fajitas funditas which is fajitas smothered in cheese! It is not on the menu, but if you ask for it... they automatically know you are a DP Pro. My son wanted to go back for his birthday dinner. He's like me and loathes the idea of being sung happy birthday to in public. I've called ahead to other places in the past to request this humiliation not take place. They either didn't pass the message on, or didn't care when someone else in our party told them to do it. I'm not sure whether to give this restaurant 2 or 3 stars but because I'm still currently unsatisfied, unfulfilled and still hungry I went with 2. I ordered from Don Pedro last week Wednesday via DoorDash and was completely satisfied with my order. I ordered the chicken quesadilla along with some other stuff but the quesadillas are the topic of this review. From what I know a quesadilla is usually choice of meat or no meat and cheese in a tortilla that's grilled and cut into triangles with some toppings on the side. Which is what I received last week with a side of sour cream guacamole and lettuce in a separate container. After having an issue with doordash two days ago with another restaurant, I decided to play it safe and reorder from Don Pedro again. When I received this order I looked for the same containers I received last week but it was not the same. I even called to say I didn't receive it and they told me it was there because she packed it. What I received was one container with a bunch of pulled chicken in a folded over tortilla with half melted cheese on top and all of the toppings on top which just made the bottom of the tortilla soggy. I don't know if they were in a rush or this is a different meal. But it doesn't look nor taste like what I had last week and I'm so disappointed. read more

Excellent restaurant, beyond excellent service and extremely well cooked food. My girlfriend and I came in for the 1st time last night and we will be back many more times. The waiters bought our food and made jokes with us. The rest of the staff was so friendly that we felt like a part of their family. We both got the chicken, shrimp and steak fajitas that were cooked to absolute perfection. My girlfriend got a raspberry flavored mixed drink that put her in heaven. Quite possibly the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Everything was either too bland or too salty and it was all way too greasy. I had a deluxe burrito and it was soggy in water with grease floating on top. My husband had a chalupa that was super dry and an enchilada that was slimy and greasy. Being originally from the Southwest, the wife and I consider ourselves Mexican food aficionados and know that good Mexican food is somewhat of a rarity in the Charlotte area. However, we're pleased to have discovered Don Pedro which is our 'go-to' destination. My favorite would be the chili relleno/enchilada/taco combination and the wife drifts between the fajitas and pork carnitas. If there is anything missing from this experience it would be the spoon we have to ask for on every trip to help us get the salsa from the bowl onto our plates ... that and a decent pour of tequilla in our flavorful Margaritas. But hey, I'm a lush so you'll have to use your own best judgment on that one ! lol read more
