You cannot judge a book by its cover. I read the reviews on this place and figured we would need to check it out. Was not expecting to pull up to an old Taco Bell storefront converted into this restaurant. Just heads up - inside still looks like an old Taco Bell too!!!! The service is outstanding. Our waitress was so sweet and informative. She had a smile on her face the whole time she helped us and gave honest opinions of what menu items we would like. Prices are great and the portion sizes are huge! Their menu has some traditional items you'd find on a Mexican menu but don't expect to get those run-of-the-mill options like the Speedy Gonzales special or a generic taco salad. They have their menu labeled with "fake Mexican food" to outline things you can get elsewhere. I was so excited to see shrimp stuffed avocado on the menu and it was divine! So much food and so much flavor. Margaritas were also delicious. Parking is easy and you have to let the aesthetics go. This place is worth visiting and i can't wait to go back and try some more items.

Very impressed with this spot after being on a mission to find a New Mexican restaurant! I loved that they have 2 sides of the menu - real Mexican and fake Mexican food - you can either be adventurous or stick with what you know! Our server (who just had a birthday) was very delightful, answered all our questions, and let us try a variety of salsas (try the half/half salsa). The food was fresh and flavorful, and the portions were very filling - you definitely have leftovers (if you want). I really don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu, but I recommend the campechano meat, and a spicy marg!!

The hostess was so nice! She ended up being our waitress also. We told her it was our first time there and she gave us some good options from the menu. The food was good and fresh. The restaurant is older, could use a little remodeling but ok

We had dinner here two nights in a row -- it's that good. Clean environment. Fresh food! If we were going to be in tow. Another night, I'd probably try it again. The staff is nice and the food comes out hot! I forgot to take photos of the tamales and tacos tonight. My husband had a vegetable burrito and loved it.

Excited my family and I got to try this wonderful restaurant. These tamales are authentic and so is the remaining of the food. Great portions. Will love to come back and try their seafood. Service was great, we had a waiter that was new but was knowledgeable of the menu. And the music was just right in regards of the noise, not too loud.

I'm actually close to their Belmont location (which is also great), but stumbled upon them in Gastonia while running errands. The staff is all super friendly, and even when busy, the food comes out fast and perfectly cooked. My husband had the Al Pastor tacos on our first visit, and they were SO good. Fully loaded as well! I noticed the ACP included a good variety of vegetables and couldn't turn it down. On our next visit, I was torn between those two options as the al pastor was so delicious, but I really wanted the veggies with rice and cheese. The waitress was able to swap the chicken for al pastor for a small upcharge, and it was so worth it! I was able to enjoy what I loved from both dishes without having to compromise. Made my day! Their guacamole is also very tasty. Unfortunately, it disappeared before I could snap a pic. Anyway, if you're in the area and looking for a good option for Mexican food, Taxco is definitely a solid choice. Makes the area feel a bit more like home.

*Updated Review* January 6, 2025…read more We were invited back by the owner to experience the exciting changes made to the restaurant, and I am happy to say it was a complete turnaround from my previous visit. It is clear that these updates have made a big difference. Starting with the exterior, the restaurant now boasts a fresh coat of paint and a new entry arch, giving it a clean and welcoming look. Inside, they have removed the buffet to add more tables, creating a more spacious and modern feel. There is also a new bar area where guests can enjoy drinks while watching games on the TVs. The tabletops have been updated, and the décor beautifully complements the murals, creating a cohesive and inviting atmosphere. One standout addition is their bakery, which offers fresh-baked goods made on-site. The updated menu is visually appealing, and the food quality is top-notch, making for an exceptional dining experience. For the table, we enjoyed the Bandeja Antigua--a platter with 1 chuchito, 1 tamal, 1 tostada with guacamole, 1 tostada with beans , 1 tostada with tomato sauce, 2 plantain rellenitos, 2 crispy chicken tacos , 2 chicken empanadas, and Chapin-style enchiladas. My husband and neighbor tried their Charro Beans and fell in love with the flavor. I tried their special ceviche--fish , octopus , shrimp , red onions , tomatoes , cilantro, and cucumber. It came in a beautiful boat-shaped bowl and was definitely flavorful. It was topped with sliced avocado . My husband had the Burrito California--rice , beans , grilled chicken , onion , tomato , and bell peppers topped with melted cheese . He definitely didn't complain. Something to note, though, is that if you order a burrito "a la Antigua," it includes rice, beans, lettuce, onion, cilantro, cream, and cheese inside the nurrito, not on the plate. My other neighbor ordered the Burrito Cheese Steak- Grilled steak, fried onions, inside the burrito, served with rice, beans, and cream salad, topped with melted cheese. Their vision remains centered on their team--motivated, dedicated individuals committed to providing excellent service to every guest. They genuinely value the community that supports them and strive to create meaningful connections. With a focus on sustainability, efficiency, and constant innovation, their mission is to bring people together and make every visit memorable and enjoyable. To further show their appreciation for the community, they offer a 50% discount to active military personnel, police officers, and firefighters, as well as a 10% discount for veterans. It's heartwarming to see their dedication not only to great service but also to giving back. We honestly had no complaints about the quality of the food or service; it was well worth the price, and the amazing tastes were a definite plus!!

Raymond answered but had to place me on hold 3x's. When he came back to the phone for the 4th time, he asked if I could again hold the line. In understanding that he was probably very busy, I respectfully declined and advised that I would call back tomorrow. To my surprise, My phone rang and it was Raymond with a wonderful young lady who translated my concerns per my horrible (customer service) experience at the Bessemer location. There were bugs crawling on the floor, and the tables were sticky enough to glue your napkin down. They actually charged us for water, which felt absurd considering the condition of the restaurant. And don't expect any drink refills -- they never offered, not once. My friend ordered birria tacos and was given a plate of greasy, fatty meat that wasn't even in taco form. It looked nothing like what was advertised, and certainly didn't taste like birria. The whole thing felt lazy and thrown together. Between the poor hygiene, lackluster service, and bizarre food, we left feeling disappointed -- and honestly a bit grossed out. I won't be back, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. There are much better places in Gastonia where you can get real tacos and decent service.
