In Greencastle for dinner and wanted something different. Very nice interior and employees were on it when we came in and got sat. With in seconds we had chips and salsa. I asked if they had Jamaica and I was told yes. Sweet or unsweetened. I got half and half and it ended up being just tea. I think she misunderstood me even thought Jamaica is Hibiscus Tea. Or Mexican Koolaid. I ordered 3 tacos and they were filled with ground beef. Not bad tasting but I think I got a slight hint of cilantro. I don't like cilantro. Husband got arroz con pollo. He said it was good. Mother in law got a taco salad. It was very well filled and it more than made her happy. Everything was alright. Not sure we'd be back though. Just not real memorable food. Just passing through and saw this place had vegetarian options, so decided to check it out. We all ordered the vegetarian taco salad, each with our own modifications. They were very friendly and accommodating. Food was amazing! I had never had fajita veggies in my taco salad before, and it was a real win for me! Good service, food overall was tasty. I don't think the chips are made in house but they were fine. All the items we had were good. Nachos with steak & chicken could have had a little more cheese. The 2 cheese quesadillas with vegetables and cheesy rice, had the vegetables in the cheese quesadillas. I guess the description could be interpreted to be veggies in the quesadilla or veggies on the plate. As a result of the veggies in the quesadilla, I thought the cheese was pretty sparse. Great place to stop in for a quick meal! As far as Greencastle goes, this restaurant does stay open later than most, so that's a plus! The biggest star of the show for me is the margaritas. Typically I find margaritas to be way to sugary for my taste, but the margs here were far less sweet and the flavors felt more elevated. They run $1.99 margaritas deals on Mondays and Wednesdays so I will definitely need to stop by there in the future! read more

We have been many times, it's always been very good, pretty quick, and reasonably priced. However, We went last night, it was not up to the normal quality anyway. Was seated right away ....but off the bat noticed a weird cleaning smell. Once seated we got chips and salsa right away....about 10 min later a waiter finally appeared to take our drink order. After getting our 2nd basket of chips and salsa which was very good, our food and drinks arrived. I was little taken off that my quesadilla had the cheese on top and not on the inside. There was however a ton of chicken seasoned very well on the inside, only negative was I had to eat with a fork VS picking up like a normal quesadilla. Staff seemed a little overwhelmed but did the best they could. I recommend going early on a Saturday night at they get busy easy. read more

Has lunch with a friend here last week. Chips weren't real fresh but this is my first time here, not sure if that's normal. Service was pretty slow for a Thursday lunch, took 40 minutes to get our food. Food was hot and was pretty good. Nice sized portion and good price. Good experience overall and recommended. read more

Surprisingly good Mexican in Greencastle. I live in Arizona where we have thousands of them. Couldn't get in on Monday night - we were eight and it was packed. Made a res for tonight. Still packed. Best chili releño ever. Very reasonable. read more

The other Mexican restaurant, that is located downtown, is just as good as the other one across town. I like the chips and salsa here a bit better. I trade off going to one or the other, and am always satisfied. I love the tamales here. Good price and you get a lot of food. I wish they carried the liter glass mugs of beer here, but they do have the 22oz glasses. The new design of this location is fresh, and always clean. Great service too. Nothing will WOW you here, but you will not leave disappointed. read more

Excellent! Staff is fantastic and works hard to make sure you are happy. The food was fantastic. Our table got Enchiladas Poblanos and Chimichangas Deluxe. We both praised the cheese sauce. The ground beef was perfectly seasoned, and the chicken was great. The only negative is the guacamole--it was over garlicky. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. read more

Wowzers! Color me rosada because I was pink after eating that great meal! I wish I could have had one of everything on the menu but I would have had to tap out at about 30 dishes and there was at least 31 dishes available to the public. I especialy loved there chips which is a difficult skill and craft to perfect. I think they are free too, but don't just get the chips definitely get other things too if you want to have a well balanced diet in you're life. Personally, I could not have made the chicken better even if I grew it by myself. The seasoning has lots of seasoning which makes it very good, especially when put on meats. I would have tried the tamales but I thought it was related to tazmanian devils. I would recommend to both family and friends. read more

What a find! I had the Quesadilla Charra and it was fabulous. The meat and mushrooms so fresh and the sour cream and guacamole were the perfect toppings. And fresh salsa and salad. The price was under $10.00! A yummy margarita and quick service and helpful staff made for a perfect dinner. We will be back! read more

As much as i like the people who run this place, it never wins me over. Worse, it often scares me away with its lameness. I like the carnitas well enough to order them once a year. The typical stuff-- tacos, enchiladas, Chile relleno-- is just Bland beyond belief. read more

I haven't eaten IN there since the remodeling and owner change. What really tee's me off is having to pay an extra $1.50 for carry out. Not delivery; carry out. I would eat there a lot more. As others have said the food can be bland. That's better than the other Mexican restaurant in town where everything tastes like a salt lick for deer. When calling in an order, "five or 10 minutes" is just too fast to bake some of this stuff. There's got to be a lot of prefab going on. The last manager admitted enchiladas and a lot of other stuff just came in from the food services trucks. No reason to think it has changed. No real dessert on the menu either. As others have mentioned, stay out when there is some DePauw thing going on. They become understaffed quickly. Couple that with loud, and many rude, patrons. Go elsewhere. read more

I wanted to really like this restaurant. I mean, what a cool name for a Mexican restaurant. And it was really hopping (for Greencastle, IN anyway) on a Friday night. My husband and I pulled up on the square in Greencastle and had to walk a block to the place. It was the first Friday of the month and there was a small festival of sorts with music and booths happening outside of the restaurant on that side of the square. Not sure if it was because of this or in addition to this, but Don Julio's was pretty busy. That said, we still only waited a couple of minutes for a seat. The restaurant was pretty loud. I would say it is not designed to be loud. A couple of families with small, loud children were dining. Add to that, a lot, I mean, A LOT, of college students walking in and out, and you have a loud ambiance. Just the table next to us alone, for example, which seated 3 girls and was in the middle aisle, was a gathering table. A couple girls left, a couple more came. Several girls stopped to chatter to them about whatever classes or boys or something as they went in and out. It was very distracting. We felt like we were in a college food court more than having a date night out at. Ok, and the real reason for giving it 3 stars, the food and service. The waiter never refilled our salsa. He cleared dishes doing a reach and didn't even look at us to give us a chance to ask if we need something. Of course with those girls and the noise, maybe he was distracted and frustrated also. And, and to be honest, the salsa, while smooth like I normally like it, had little flavor. I had to keep adding pepper and salt to mine. The same when my food came. It was very bland. Especially the beans and rice. The only thing really good was the margarita. Maybe this is why the college students flock here. Hmmmm. I am 100% sure that if we try this place again it won't be on a Friday night during the school year and it will only be because friends want to go. We like the place out of town near the Walmart better. Even better, drive over to Danville and go to Los Rancheros. It is newly remodeled and beats them all for the food taste and being able to get a relaxing dinner with good service. I'm not sure Don Julio's had an accessible entrance. I'll have to look if I am nearby in the future. I think it was just a few steps up. It's a really old building. Regardless, I'm not sure that if you could get inside on a ramp, that you could easily navigate inside with the architecture. Rooms are small and cramped. read more

Every seat filled tonight and still got our drinks and food right away plus our waiter noticed when our drinks went out and asked if we wanted more. Food was alright service was terrible. We ordered queso to go with our chips but didn't get it until our server brought our food out and we had to ask for it. The beans I got looked like they had been sitting under a heat lamp they were crusty and gross. My friend got quesadillas instead of tacos like he ordered. Then we got charged for incorrect items but the server argued (there's a difference between arguing and explaining) that they were the same price so it's fine. When he finally changed it and brought the check back he said "see i told you it would be the same price" (it wasn't). All in all good was alright but won't be returning because of the service. read more

I like Don Julio! My friends and I agree that it is one of our favorite restaurants at DePauw. It has good food and good customer service.

Our service was excellent and the décor/environment was decent. The prices were good. The food, however, was just OK-- it tasted processed and pretty bland. I guess it wasn't bad for Mexican food in a small Indiana town. read more

I really enjoy going to this place. The food is Great and the service is also. I have tried many different items on the menu. I have no one favorite. My husband really likes this place also.
