We got the guacamole, and that was delicious I got shrimp tacos, which wasn't on the menu but they made is special for me. The shrimp was cooked to perfection with amazing flavor. Salsa wasn't too spicy, which I liked. The decor is vibrant and colorful. Our server was attentive. You pay on your way out, which is different from some other restaurants. My only complaint is the margaritas didn't taste fresh. They were definitely made with a mix and the alcohol wasn't really present. It tasted more like sugar. Third strike and I'm done. This place was great at one time but not sure what is going on now. It is SO inconsistent with the quality of food, it's too much of a risk to even bother anymore. Last night was the last time you get into my wallet for $40. Ordered the fajita plate for 2 with steak chicken and shrimp. While i wont say it was inedible , i will say it had as much flavor as the container it came in. As far as the side trays that contained the rice , beans , avocado and lettuce , it was the saddest looking sides you can imagine and seemed to have been premade and refrigerated because the beans and rice were ICE cold. I'm not talking room temperature cold, REFRIGERATOR cold. Maybe I'm the only one who feels like this place is failing hard because it seems to be always packed in the evenings and on weekends, or maybe everyone up here is just desperate for food and figures its better then nothing but for me, I've given them 3 times now within the last 3 months and i wont be going back ever again. We have been here many times as we live close by. I would say it's average in quality. I give it 3 stars as ambience is just ok and being close to high school sometimes gets kids who don't know how to behave around adults. Nothing worse than teenagers acting like kindergartners. The food is as good as any of the other Mexican restaurants in the city and it's always nice to go in somewhere that you see a couple of tables of local friends and families. Ok, let's be fair... the food is a 2, the service is at least a 4... I wish I could say that my score is because I am a "Tex-Mex" snob, being from Texas... But that isn't the case here. This was the greasiest food I've ever put in my mouth. And it was so greasy , I got physically ill. The menu is the same menu as Amigo's, but I am not sure if they are related in anyway. I would say try your own risk if you have a sensitive stomach to too much grease. read more

I am picky about Mexican restaurants and it took us a year to try Don Jose even though it is a mile from our house. I am so bummed that I waited so long to give it a try. The staff was friendly and we received our food quickly. Everything was super delicious and they have amazing salsa. You get salsa and chips with every meal and they even give you individual dishes so you don't have to worry about your meal buddies double dipping. The prices are reasonable and they have great lunch specials before 4 pm. We have eaten there several times since we first dined and it has quickly become a family favorite. I had a 16oz draft Dos Equis and Taco de Carnitas. The tacos were great. Not sloppy and all over the place. They come with avacado, which they gave me plenty of. I've been a regular at Don Jose's for about a year now and absolutely love everything about it. My favorite dishes are the arroz con camerones, fajitas, caldo de camerones, any of their vegetarian options, and many others. Their lunch menu is affordable and I love getting the huevos rancheros off of it. The service here is always fast and attentive. Yelp has it rated at a 4.5 as of right now, and that's why we went. My family and I dine here frequently and we have never been disappointed by the service or the food. I normally order their fajitas. The food is always fresh and it doesn't take long to arrive at the table. The only downside is that the guacamole lacks flavor. It tastes like plain mashed avocado. This isn't bad when adding it to fajitas or tacos but when eating it with chips it is obvious it is missing a kick of spice. I normally have enough left over to take some home for lunch the next day. We used to love this place. We got a to go order tonight. The same order mi us two burritos as a week ago. Tonight's was awful! The tacos were dumped into the containers with empty shells. The meat cheese and salad were in the bottom of the containers. When we put it all together again the meat was awful. It very extremely bland and tasteless. The service there is getting so bad.
