I went to this establishment yesterday. I walked up to the counter and I seen a roach crawling up the wall lol. When I got my tacos, the meat was dry and it wasn't made out of love. Called ahead to make sure they were open on July 4th, and they didn't speak English...so was confident we would get authentic Mexican, and was not disappointed. I had 3 tacos and they were each full of flavor: pollo asada, carnitas, and lingua. My wife ordered the veggie queso but veggie was lost in translation and it was cheese only. The restaurant gave off a really "hole in the wall" vibe but it was somewhat busy so we figured we would give it a shot. So far this is my favorite Mexican restaurant. You will see a bunch of locals dining here which creates an authentic feel. This restaurant is also a grocery store and they have a large inventory of pinatas!! I ordered 1 fish taco and 1 shrimp taco but they only gave me the fish taco..I didn't mind since I wasn't hungry. It's about $2 for one taco. He ordered a quesadilla which he couldn't finish. I tried it and eh. I absolutely loved my fish taco. It was so flavorful. I was not expecting this blast of flavors. The fish was so tender and I usually don't eat the shells of tacos but I did this time! I loved that it didn't break apart. I really wish they gave me the shrimp taco since the fish taco was so good. They also serve chips and salsa. The chips were warm and crisp but the salsa sucked because it was runny. This saved us both the calories! We sat there for hours chatting and they were practically done cleaning to the point where they were about to close. I appreciated that they didn't kick us out! What do you do when you're done eating? Pay at the counter. They didn't give us a bill so I guess it's a trust system - tell them what you ordered. This is the best Mexican food I have had in Knoxville. I can't believe it's so close by and I never realized you can get good food here and sit down and eat it too. Hole in the wall that is definitely worth giving a try. Right next to McDonald's on Chapman Hwy closer to the bridge. When you go in, seat yourself. It's also a store,so turn left when you walk in. Good cheap Mexican food. The rice was wierd, it had green beans and corn. The flavor of the chicken and shrimp tacos were delicious. I enjoyed the chips and salsa the most. My biggest issue was the cleanliness of dining area. There was trash everywhere, almost as if someone started sweeping and then stopped. Literally, there was a broom leaning against the wall next to a pile of trash. Not sure why they think people would want to eat in those conditions. Never judge a book by its cover or a restaurant by its location. If you are looking for atmosphere... this really isn't the place for you but if you are looking for some amazing Mexican food at a tremendous price then who cares about the atmosphere. The fajitas were so delicious. I love coke in a bottle! The Carne Asada was fantastic! The Milanesa de pollo was crispy and tasty! On the way out grab a strawberry palleta icepop from the convenient store there for dessert. Too bad we don't live here! Excellent little hole in the wall in South Knox. The food is authentic and delicious, and the prices are dirt cheap. The ordering process/service can be a little messy but HONESTLY that's ultimately unimportant in a place like this. Glad to have this in the neighborhood, a real gem. read more
