    "guacamole"
    First C.

"I feel personally violated by that guacamole" is what my husband uttered as we pulled away. So funny and so true. Seriously, we took one taste of that diluted avocado slurry and, sorry, it was just wrong, we didn't touch it again. (If you are vegan, find somewhere else). We were in a hurry to eat before passing through Montrose, which led to a series of poor decisions on our part, which I will detail: 1. Not turning around and leaving when the young teenaged employee sat on the counter as she fished out food from the styrofoam to-go container, never ceasing to eat while we asked questions about the menu. It was unappealing in ways I will leave the reader to imagine. 2. Choosing to stay when the counter employees knew very little about the ingredients in their dishes. Are the beans baked in lard? Your guess is as good as mine. BUT, I felt reassured when seeing the "guacamole" that there's no way this restaurant would waste money on lard (thankfully in this case) when they could dilute beans or any ingredients with water. So bad, all of it. 3. Not cutting our losses and just leaving when "bean and cheese burrito" was suggested as one of two vegan options. Small businesses are hard pressed in this failing economy, and they should be supported, but I have to draw a line at the watered down avocado. This place makes me sad. I hope they move past whatever shamelessness is seeping through their food ethic. Also, it is a little strange to me how often we go to a new restaurant and it seems like we are the first customers to have ever asked if there are animal products in their food. Maybe my standards are too high here (i.e. they merely exist), but wouldn't those working in the restaurant industry have even peripheral awareness of whether they serve anything vegan..? P.S. This place is doing its part to clog our oceans, rivers, and land with excessive plastic packaging, in case you happen to be someone who cares about such things.

Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had! Their beans are so creamy & yummy. Chips made fresh. Salsa has a kick but really good!

This is the best Mexican food in the western slope for sure. Bring me back to Texas. Great prices and lots to choose from.

Good corn tortillas and tender chicken (lightly seasoned). Not overwhelmingly spicy or greasy like you'd expect, but I appreciated that. The guacamole wasn't house made. It was more like "dip" texture, so ehhh...didnt care for it. PRICE: Overpriced. We split the Chicken Fajitas; they were tasty, but 3 extra tortillas cost $1.50 which bumped our price from $13 to almost $15 for a dish that shouldn't be over $11 (extra shells or not). Of course, we're from Missouri and everything is cheaper there. Maybe the Colorado economy is not something we're used to yet. ATMOSPHERE: nice! You can see enough to read the menu, but it's dim enough to give you privacy and intimacy. SERVICE: Friendly server who checked in often. The food arrived faster than anticipated, and the check arrived in a timely manner. TAKE AWAY: Overall, good food, fast and kind service, and a relaxing atmosphere gives it 4 stars for me.

About half or less of the tables were occupied, but the hostess acted like it was going to be complicated to accommodate a wheelchair. She seated us, then brought menus. Took drink order. Drinks come, waitress leaves. Eventually comes back for order. It was at this point, after everyone has had 10-15 minutes to consider the menu, she informs us they are out of fries. Two in our party order burgers anyway, well done, with hash browns instead. At this point is when she offers chips and salsa. Should have brought that when we were first seated. Chips were chewy. Our food took over 30 minutes to arrive. (At this point there were only a couple tables occupied, about 2 pm). Both burgers were medium RARE, and they looked like the filler-laden ones you buy in a tube at Sam's Club. The rest of the food was just 'ok'. We would have been better off waiting for a table at the first place we stopped. They were friendly, and they did take one of the burgers off the bill, but we won't eat there again, and I wouldn't recommend it.
