Don Garcias was closed for a bit and now that it is back, the updated restaurant is fantastic. If you are a regular, you will see some of the original decor and furnishings. The menu is pretty much the same and the quality continues to be at its best. The Beef Fajitas (for one) is nicely cut strips of beef. Served with warm flour tortillas, rice, beans, a small scoop of sour cream, guacamole, and salsa. The service was great, kept my chips and salsa full and checked on us on a regular basis. New faces! Oh, and they only serve Pepsi products, Agua frescoes, and bottled beverages. I enjoy Don Garcias! They have something for everyone. read more

THEY ARE BACK OPEN. MAYBE NEW OWNERSHIP? We had dinner there last night 1/22/2026 about 7:00 pm. Dinner was excellent. Husband had Chili Colorado, Rice and Beans. I'm so happy I gave this place a second chance, it seems to be under new management/owners. Everything I mean everything was GREAT. The customer service was excellent (I believe the owner was our waiter), the food was delicious and hot, and the place was clean! We tried the buffet, I think it was $19.?? I don't remember the right amount. My favorite dish was the green chile meat, but everything was soo good . My sister is a bit picky and she loved the flautas, chicken fajitas, cheese enchilada and beans and rice. The salad was fresh and crunchy. For dessert they had fruit jam filled churros! Finally got to come here post Covid! I hate to say it, but it's just not the same. The service was great! Friendly staff, never had to ask for anything and they weren't coming by the table so often that it interrupted the conversation. The place is old, but clean. I'd say that they can turn the music down a notch or two but it wasn't annoying. The food... my main dish was not bad, but not nearly as good as I remember it being 3-5 years ago. It had decent flavor and was cooked well, but it wasn't amazing. The salsa had a funny taste to it, like the kind you get out of a jar which was disappointing. I used to get a big thing of salsa to go after eating here. I can't quite figure out what's changed but I still hold out hope. I will continue to come here from time to time in the hopes that they bring back some of that old flavor. read more

Definitely not the same since reopening-- such a disappointment because I strongly anticipated that day. They were closed for, what seemed like almost a year? Not sure, but I used to go over the past 7 years and even spent one of my birthdays there a few years back. First, the server took my order wrong and brought me the wrong food. I thought it was so strange that happened, because I literally pointed at it on the menu in front of him, and I read it exactly as it's named there. I was literally looking forward to ordering this specific thing for the whole time they were closed. I expressed my excitement again once we sat down to order/eat this item. My disappointment began from when he sat that plate down. Their tacos got sooo skimpy. Even Del Taco will serve you a fatter taco with more meat than what we were given. I remember the al pastor being significantly better before too. My tacos had no cheese between them as they are supposed to come (the Don Garcia's jack tacos). Tortillas looked store-bought, weren't they house-made before? I understand everyone is cutting corners right now to make costs cheaper, but that specific choice is not going to help retain customers. The tortillas at Vallarta taste better than whichever ones they're using now. Server never came back to the table to ask how the food was or anything. I was starving and it wasn't THAT big of a deal, but definitely not what was ordered. I ate it anyways after it became clear he was never going to follow-up to confirm the food was good (basic server-customer service etiquette). My disappointment turned to annoyance after finally having him revisit our table more than half-way through our meal. After politely pointing this mistake out to the server, he claimed that wasn't what I ordered...? There was no way it was MY mistake, so I found that unnecessary gaslighting particularly wild. I just said ok then just making sure we aren't charged for what I actually ordered, because that wasn't what was brought out. He then turns to ask who is paying. Does it matter.? Who wants to be charged for a meal they did not receive? Found that weird and unprofessional. That was enough for me. Between the new, ugly neon green paint, skimpy tacos, basic tortillas, and unknowledgable, under-trained staff (unacceptable considering how long that closure was btw), I will not be returning. Annoyed I even cared and looked forward to their reopening. I gave 2 stars because the tortilla soup was still as good as I remembered and the rice/beans were decent . I definitely won't waste my time or money coming back. RIP the once delicious, hole in the wall spot with some of the best Mexican food in the HD. I will continue to go to the other Mexican food spot I discovered during their closure. Mexico Lindo (also in Hesperia) has better service, atmosphere, and food. Montecito Kitchen in Apple Valley is also great if you're on the other side of the HD. read more

Under new management/ownership after being closed for months, we were excited to see it reopened. Not the same Don Garcias. Went on a Sunday they have buffet and off the menu. Service was awful. Food was ok. Waiting almost 40 minutes to get an order from the menu. Ended up leaving without the off the menu order. Hopefully they can get it together soon. read more

My husband's family has been coming to this restaurant for many years and for the past 4 years I've also gotten a chance to enjoy the food from this restaurant. There is a brunch buffet here every Sunday which is nice because I get as much menudo or pozole amongst other yummy dishes! Chicken Fajitas were really good (see video). It had lots of mushrooms plus green bell pepper, onion and a little tomato and was mildly seasoned. I also ordered frijoles de la olla which is not on the menu. Just wish I didn't have to smell a noticeable bathroom odor when I walked in. We went for the highly publicized Sunday brunch. Granted at a price point of under 20 dollars we weren't expecting the moon, but many of buffet trays were empty for an extended amount of time. The food was very slow to roll out of the kitchen and we found ourselves waiting for food. Another big problem, there's something going on with their plumbing. The area near the restrooms had a horrible sewer smell. With that said, when the food did come out it was good! And, the staff were extremely friendly. But the kitchen needed to pick up the pace. Been here about 5 or 6 times. I will say the last three times there has been some issues. One time was seated quickly , but then seemed like it took quite a while for anyone to come over. Then there was an issue with the Albondigas was Luke warm. I hate to give a bad review but I just have to. I'm actually shocked that this place has good reviews. We were in the area and decided to try this place. I'm not kidding when I say that every single thing that we tried was terrible. From their horchata, to their chips, to their soup. I still was hoping that their main dish would be good. Literally, the first bite I took (of rice) was hard! :( So i had to spit it out since it there were pieces that were rock hard. Then I tried their guac but I noticed a couple of avocado skin, and that just grossed me out. If they don't notice the skin who knows what else falls into the food and they don't notice. I was sooo grossed out. My partner and I couldn't finish the food. I was trying to just to be polite but I really couldn't. The staff was nice however. We didn't complain about the food though. My family has been coming here for 6 years now. Hasn't changed one bit. While sometimes it can be a little warm in there, the staff are some of the most friendly people ive ever met. Steven and his family definitely know how to make every visit feel like we're family. My son has loved their chicken nuggets from when he was 1. Now that he's 6 he's still chooses them. Personally i love the chorizo tacos and the sunday buffet. All of their food is killer. Their menudo is really good too. I get it with the foot when they have it. Disgusting Experience.... Waiter was uneasy not resourceful about the menu, My Partner ordered the pozole which came with delicious 14 inch long piece of hair. Then when our food showed up (40 minutes after walking into the restaurant) the food was bland. I was questioning why the other people got their food first and this server just said "your food takes longer." instead of saying "sorry, I know it's a bit of a wait but.. etc." I work in the service industry too and that guy should have handled it differently. Waited 30 minutes for a fajita and everything was bland, veggies were raw. My wife and my mother barely even touched their food. Taquitos were rice and beans were great... Service was exceptional!!! Fast on the drink refils, and chips and salsa!!!! Came back several times to check and make sure we were good. When it came down to sending the chimichanga back the waiter asked several times if I wanted another one, and the had no issue taking it off the bill.... not his fault the kitchen messed up!!! 1 star for the kitchen 5 stars for pur waiters!!! Since we are semi-new to moving to the high desert my husband I like to try new places almost every time we eat out. We saw this place a few times and decided to try it and it was so good. I definitely want to come back and try more dishes. Let me begin by saying that their menu is amazing! So many choices and the breakfast choices wowed me. Breakfast served all day so I had chilaquiles for dinner and the plate was so big that I had plenty for breakfast the next day. We got an appetizer of the Jack Tacos as a recommendation from our waitress and I LOVED them!! Imagine a quesadilla and taco in one.. yum! We also tried dessert because again so much yummyness to chose from! We got fried ice cream and it did not disappoint!
