Although slightly pricier than expected, the unique food, service, and ambiance was unbeatable. There are a few tables outside near a small pool of water and a streaming waterfall, or plenty of booths and tables inside as well as a bar. We were warmly greeted by Joca, who walked us through the menu in detail with several personal recommendations. Ultimately we chose the tacu tacu luomo saltado and pescado a lo machu. Rather than Mexican style chips and salsa, they provide a type of Peruvian corn nuts with lime and hot sauce - unique and very good. The Tacu tacu was absolutely incredible, such a nice blend of savory steak and tasty soy type of sauce, accompanied with a "bean loaf" is the best way to describe it. It's beans in the shape and consistency of a bread loaf and amazing. I will definitely order that again The pescado was good, but nowhere near the tacu tacu. In fact the seafood was better than the fish (just slightly over cooked) with rice. Overall both plates were filling and between $22-$28. Stopped by on a Monday night for a quick to go order, and WOW. The food here is outstanding! I had a side of patacones with ceviche and it was filling, fresh, and delicious. Ambiance - beautifully decorated. I had to look up the colors of Peruvian flag to understand the color scheme. Lots of decorative bulls and alpacas decorated the ledges. Service - I'm not sure if it was the manager or the owner that waited on us, but he was very attentive and explained each dish I had questions regarding. He even explained their special tea. Very happy with his patience and service. I wish more wait staff in town could be like him.. Food - it's my first experience with Peruvian food so I have to be careful here. Their spice pallet is different not bad just different. We started with the appetizer Yuca a la hauncalna. It's fried yuca with a hauncalna sauce (it's a yellow chilli sauce). The yuca was ok but I was expecting more from the hauncalna sauce. More of a chilli zip. Still it was good. Next I had the Lomo Saltado a la poure. It's steak sautéed with red peppers and onion. The steak was tender and juicy. Definitely worth a second try. The white rice had a fried egg over it. The fries were ok especially with the juice of the steak. It also had fried plantains, they were very sweet and tasty. My partner had the lunch special of Pollo Chijaukay - chicken thighs in a sweet soy sauce with peas and bell peppers. She loved the chicken and vegetables but did not find the fried rice pleasing. Overall it was a good meal and first time experience with Peruvian food. read more

The food was nothing short of fantastic. Very very authentic. Large menu selection of dishes. Everything is made fresh to order - this is not a fast food dining experience. Taste was exceptional, and matched the presentation. The staff does not hover or bother, and instead walks by, attentive to empty glasses in need of refill, or plates to be removed, but does not needlessly bother you at the table every few minutes asking if you need anything - you can enjoy your meal and your company. So first thing first, I was looking forward to the traditional Peruvian rotisserie chicken with the mayonnaise based yellow sauce and the green spicy chili sauce and to my disappointment they do not serve it. This why I only gave them 4 stars instead of 5. But, their menu looks impressive. A nice selection of ceviche which I am going to try the next time I am here. I ordered the crispy fried whole red snapper with delicious beans and a salad. I loved this dish. I would order the extra season red onions and/or the Peruvian salsa and smother the fish with it. I would order this again. It was very satisfying and low carb option without the rice or yucca. I also ordered the chicken wings with the creamy ceviche sauce and salsa from the special limited time menu. This was okay. I would only order because it's a low carb / keto option. The sauce didn't really complement the wings. What I'm obsessed about is the beans! It reminds me of the butter beans from Willie Mae's in New Orleans. It has a similar seasoning. This and scoop of rice can be a meal on its own. I wouldn't be surprised if they added this to their menu as their version of beans and rice. My partner had the chicken thighs, fried potatoes, and rice. I didn't taste it. Now, this place is located at the former Horizen location in East Hill. The fish pond and waterfall is still there and the interior has some Peruvian art but you can still feel the spirit of Horizen. The staff and server was friendly and attentive. If they bring the tradition Peruvian rotisserie chicken, it would frequent this place for it. However, the snapper I will come back for that and I want try other things on the menu. Wow! What were we thinking? What took us so long to try this place? Don Cha is delicious! Everything we tried was terrific! Peru is emerging on the world stage as one of the premier food destinations on Earth and if this restaurant is any indication of how the food is there, inside Peru, I want to get on a plane and go! So much flavor! ! It way surpassed my expectations. We have now eaten at Llama in St Augustine, Papa Llama in Orlando and now Don Cha. Papa Llama just got a Michelin Star, Llama needs one and Don Cha is not Michelin caliber, but it should still be recommended in the guide. Did I say wow? Peruvian food rocks! H.S. had the Ceviche Taypa which is a mixed seafood ceviche with fish, shrimp, calamari and octopus among other things like sweet potato, and corn. She loved it as did I. Everything went so well and the entire dish was light, believe it or not. I had the Tacu Tacu con Lomo Montado which is flank steak, cooked with tomatoes and onions. So freaking good! What they call rice loaf is navy beans (not pinto, think softer texture, and less dry than a pinto bean) and rice browned together and formed into a shape like a small loaf of bread. I was dubious at best about it, but damn!!!!! It was delicious too! My only regret is there could have been more of that brown sauce that came with the dish. I will ask for extra next time. It makes the dish! Yum! We also ordered their Patacones (I know them as tostones), and the Maduros which are ripe plantains and they are quite a bit sweeter than the Patacones. I think they are similar to the Plantains at Mr. Pollo. The tostones are excellent but need a sauce to dip them in. In my opinion, the sauce mentioned above would be delicious on them. I was probably building this place up a little too much in my mind based on the solid reviews (both here and on Facebook). I've been waiting for wonderful Peruvian options to hit Pensacola and was thrilled to hear about Don Cha and seeing all the glowing reviews really piqued my interest! I have been to Peru and LOVEEEEEE Peruvian cuisine. Unfortunately, this missed the mark for me. The ceviche should be served consistently and not in a drinking glass IMO. Mine looked like soup not ceviche- don't get me wrong, the flavor was good and the portion size was commendable but there was no corn and no sweet potatoes. Bummer. The anticuchos were amazing but also $15+ for an app is wild. Again, the portion size was generous so perhaps that just needs to be adjusted to actually be an appetizer. I got the Classic Ceviche and it was overall, meh. My friend got the Lomo Saltado and that was unfortunately quite disappointing. The meat was not tender and the portion was similar to the appetizer portion. I've only been once, meaning I'll have to try again but overall that's an ehhhhhhh from me. read more

Our server took about 5-7 minutes just to get our drink orders, and after that, he never checked in on us again. A younger lady ended up bringing our food, which is when we were finally able to ask for a refill. The food seemed like it had been sitting for a while because it wasn't fully hot when it arrived. Meanwhile, we watched the same server give great service to another couple that walked in greeting them right away, seating them quickly, and taking their orders promptly(pretty sure they where his regulars). Yet, even as time passed, he never once checked on us. After we finished eating, we waited another 10 minutes and still no one came by. I eventually had to get up, ask someone else at the bar for a box, and the check myself. The place wasn't busy, so there was no excuse. Asked about making a dish with fresh oil due to shell fish allergies and they had no problem with that. So I tried one of the hardest things to get right food wise.. the octopus and I must say it was delicious and the sauce was amazing. Nice and spicy. We got there early around 5pm and no cars in the parking lot was a red flag. So, we took a drive around the neighborhood and came back about 40 minutes later. What an amazing find! We had eaten at Don Cha in Fort Walton Beach and stumbled upon another in Pensacola. My fiancée and I went there and absolutely loved it! She is Peruvian, so we try to go authentic whenever possible, and Don Cha does not disappoint. Fantastic ceviche and other dishes, as well as delicious drinks. We will definitely eat there again anytime we are in Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, or anywhere else Don Cha has a restaurant. We love it! read more
