We reviewed several of these companies, including conversations with prior customers and even a few site visits. In the end, we went with Richard Valentine (Valentine Designs) and are so glad we did! Richard's work was outstanding and has stood the test of time. Five years after our project was completed (2013), there have been no issues with the masonry or the stone. Richard is a true craftsman and stands by his commitment of lifetime service and support! The few times we've had questions about our patio lighting, he's been prompt to respond and swap out parts that have shown age and/or wear. Richard oversees all his projects and does most of the work himself so expect a bit of a waiting list to get on his schedule, but one that's well worth it!

Then we asked some local contractors for bids. When this guy showed up, he was very serious. He took measurements so as to provide an accurate estimate. He gave us a bid that was competitive with the other bids. We also did some online searches. We checked out the Better Business Bureau and the state licensing. This business has been licensed to practice in Virginia since 2006, and the owner was licensed under his own name since 2001. There were no complaints with the Better Business Bureau, not one. So with a track record like that we were confident that he would be a good pick. Our job wasn't particularly challenging, but he did the work and did the work well and timely. We have no complaints in the work he did. He even helped us with the local government with getting a permit. This business does a lot of other types of home improvement projects, and they have a good website. We were very happy with the work that he did, and we will be calling him if we ever embark on another home improvement project.

Very professional, energetic, and super quick in taking action. I had wind storm damages and, at first, the insurance company was not approving a full replacement stating the roof did not fail their brittleness test. G&F went the extra mile, to go on the roof the second time, mark all damages, document everything with high-resolution pictures, and prepare a very detailed report. The adjuster, after looking at the report, did not even take a day to change his decision and approved a full replacement. Super satisfied with their work and service. I was told that Bob and Jason are honest, reliable, and very detail-oriented. So we ended up using Sequoia to rebuild the entire basement with upgrades. We had them add a closet in the bedroom. We also had them completely demo our bathroom and turn the bathtub into a beautiful tiled standing shower with a frameless glass door. We had them run electrical to our porch for two heaters and run a line for a new subpanel in my garage with a Tesla wall connector wired into the new subpanel. I can't say enough good things about their work. Bob, Jason, and their employee Chris are incredibly reliable. They show up when they say they will be there. We trust them in our house even if we're not home. They are incredibly professional. I've used small-company contractors in the past that come out for the estimate, and then you never see them again because the work is done by subcontractors. Bob and Jason do all of their own work, with the exception of any specialty subcontractors that might need to be hired, such as a plumber, electrician, or carpet/flooring company. We liked their work so much that we decided to have them redo our entire kitchen this summer, install new hardwood floors, and paint our balusters and handrails on the stairs. They are almost finished with that job, and we are incredibly happy. Bob, Jason and Chris work at a solid pace, but put an emphasis on attention to detail. They clean up the worksite at the end of every day. I believe most of their work comes from referrals, which says a lot about them. I would recommend Sequoia to anyone.

I decided I wanted to relocate the laundry room. Bob gently told me that this was not necessary. He suggested moving the dryer vent and adding a drain. I then made a decision to update my home. Bob sent me to Reico in Springfield and I worked with Shanae Mobley, who was patient with me as I made decisions and she spent a lot of time making adjustments to make sure I was completely satisfied. My next task was heading to East West Marble Company in Chantilly to make my granite selections. I made an appointment with Andrea and SHE worked with me all SEVEN times I visited. Dominion Granite installed all the granite and the counters look beautiful! Bob also sent me to Executive Floors in Manassas and I worked directly with Mr. Barnes. This was a treat. He helped me make a decision about the vinyl floors---encouraging me to keep the existing hardwood floors and work around the tile Bob and Jason were installing. Bob then sent me to daltile in Manassas and I worked directly with Bonnie Phillips. I had NO IDEA what I liked and had only looked at Houzz. I have met with Bonnie four times to make the tile selections for the bathrooms, floors, and fireplace. Each time, she helped me make decisions and put things together for me that I would have never considered. Bob & Jason have been working in my home EVERY DAY since September 19, 2021. My house looks spectacular. I have given several tours to friends, family, and co-workers. All are impressed with the fact that my house really does not look like it is being renovated. They arrive after I leave for work and clean up and organize the areas before I get home. They love my dog and she looks forward to their visits. Bob suggested I use Build.com to order my items---and after establishing an account....I added Bob who can review my purchases to make sure I have everything I need. During the whole process they prepared me for what was coming. They put my washer and dryer back as they worked so I would have access to it. They set up my undercabinet microwave so I could use it during the kitchen renovation. I always had access to a sink! My house is still a work in progress. The kitchen, master bathroom, full upstairs bath, laundry room, and wet bar area are done. They are currently painting and will begin on the fireplace and powder room, doors AND---when the floors arrive in the port---they will be here to remove the carpet and check the floors prior to the installation. Bob and Jason are very thorough and meticulous about their work. They have consistently made adjustments and have helped me to make decisions throughout this process.
