Way too slow and disorganized. I'm not sure if they were just having a bad day or what.

Terrible. Won't deliver to Middletown and the pizza is not worth driving to get. It's Digiorno!

Poppy's Place - Grilled cheese sandwich

Poppy's Place

Poppy's Place in Front Royal is a TOTAL return to another time. Poppy, after whom the restaurant is…read morenamed, is the grandfather of the people who work (and I suspect at least partially own) the place. You walk in and order at the counter. This is a down home breakfast place where clearly everything is made to order from scratch. When we arrived, there was a woman waiting on a large takeout order. The order was for the wedding party for her daughter who was getting married that day. The bride so loves this place that she wanted her wedding party to share breakfast from her favo spot. So you get the picture. Very simple, very local. We ordered an array of breakfast items that included omelettes, grilled cheese, egg and cheese and pancakes, toast, along with coffee. The service was wonderful, the people who work here are wonderful. The food is good, certainly not great. I am from a bigger city and perhaps my expectations are skewed from that. This is a great place to visit for breakfast just outside of the National Park and it feels nice to support the local business. Just know what to expect.

It was loaded with meat, the marbled rye was toasted to perfection, a nice crunch and then it was a sloppy bite to the end and I enjoyed every one of them. This is the best Reuben I have had in Front Royal and the surrounding area. She had the gyro and was very happy with the entire meal, the lamb was very tender fresh veggies and the tang of feta and a yummy tzatziki sauce.

Shawnee Springs Market - Variety of fresh produce

This place is easy to miss but is definitely worth a trip. Whether you're looking for fresh, local…read moreproduce, fresh baked goods, or even a quick meal, this market has been a stop me and my son have been trying out. Food is ordered on a screen and you just wait for your name to be called. We've only tried the breakfast sandwiches and the breakfast bowls, but both times we have been left satisfied. The sausage gravy is pretty comparable to most places we've had around the area. Definitely better than the local chain restaurants. Gravy is flavorful and meaty. The moment you walk in you feel this place definitely supports the local farms and has unique products you're not going to find in your chain grocery store. The workers are always friendly and willing to chat. We look forward to coming here again.

It appears that Shawnee at Winchester has got on the greed band wagon. My son punched in two BLT…read moresandwiches at the kiosk and the total was over $26!! Startled, I double checked the order and there were no add-ons. We complained to the floor manager and he said, "Well, inflation... you know." Then cited the high cost of diesel at $6 a gal, etc. Diesel was previously $5.49 and went to $5.99, a 9% increase, yet Shawnee put a near 50% increase on their sandwiches. I told my son, this is last time we will order sandwiches at Shawnee. Shame on such greed.

This is "Greek-style" and not a Greek eatery. What a disappointment. I do so love Greek food which…read morelured me here, so I write this as a cautionary review. Whats more sad is that I paid $15 for something that isn't at all as advertised. I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki Greek Salad as I love grilled meat. Never have I had souvlaki in over a dozen voyages to Greece that was wet boiled or microwaved, as this chicken seemed to be. Souvlaki are grilled skewers. This place should NOT sell the pile of bland, blond, wet chicken breast as "souvlaki." The "Greek" salad was sad. No other way to describe it. It had the ingredients of a Greek salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber) but the feta was meager and there were no onions. The tzatziki was more akin to ranch dressing (not made with yogurt- real Greek yogurt would hold a spoon standing in it. This was almost liquid.) ) and the pita was a doughy, cheap substitute. Their listing says fresh bread, and this pita was not so much. The owner seems nice and personable, and I wish him well but I also wish he would pay more attention to the product he delivers, especially if they call it, Greek. UPDATE from owners rebuttal: I write fair reviews as I experience the food. The issue is not whether you have fresh ingredients or quality chicken: it is clearly stated what you served was just not souvlaki in anyway, it was wet sautéed chicken and that was not traditional tzatziki. It was tzatziki-like sauce. Period. If you go to a pizza place to buy a pizza and you get high quality toasted bread with excellent tomato sauce and good mozzarella- it's still not a pizza, no matter the quality, and you shouldn't call it a pizza. I don't deny you are Greek, proud or otherwise, just serve what you advertise. Good luck to you too!
