I explained that I was disable and used a power wheelchair and asked if the office was accessible. They assured me that it was but that I'd need to go to the concierge at the building next door and they would bring me to the office "the back way" . When I got there I was taken up two small flights of steps using a portable ramp (and nearly tipped over backwards on the ramp going up the first steps as the incline was too steep) and was taken to a room the size of a medium sized walk in closed. Once in the room it was obvious that the wheelchair would NOT fit through the door. The owner asked if I could sit in an office chair and they would roll me into the office. I said yes. Only then did they tell me that the were not in network for hearing aids using my insurance, but that they could do a hearing evaluation, and I'd have to get hearing aids somewhere else if I wanted to use those benefits. I asked if I'd need to have another hearing test at the place dispensing hearing aids. They said yes. I told them that I wasn't interested in paying for a test that wouldn't be useful to the process, and that I had been misinformed that the office was accessible, that it clearly was not, and that I had specifically said twice that I needed hearing aids, and was clear in that I used a power wheelchair. The owner told me that "many wheelchairs fit throught the small doorway", but acknowledged that this had been a problem in the past. I was furious, but kept calm and said I had to leave before I became unpleasant, I was so angry. They apologized. I wasted all of a morning and part of an afternoon. On the way out through the back on the ramp again I almost tipped trying to go down the ramp when the ramp slipped down from one step to the next and my chair very fortunately did not tip. I sucsessfully got down the second set of stairs but not without fearing greatly for my safety. It could have ended with a serious injury. This situation was more than inexcusable. First not telling me that they were not in network for hearing aids before came resulted in an absolutely wasted trip, which for someone in a power chair is extremely difficult. Being frankly intentionally lied to about accessibility, and almost being seriously injured by inadequate adaptive equipment and negligence/ignorance on the part of the connecting building staff. I will be making an ADA complaint with the city and whatever government agency are relevant about the audiology/hearing practice as well as the building next door, so that others don't have the same experience or risk injury. This is inexcusible.

I went in for a hearing test - my first since grade school, I think - which Dr. Weible oriented me to and then conducted there in ten minutes in a sound-tight booth. He shared the results with me immediately and in detail, and while my comprehension was good to my surprise I had some noticeable high frequency hearing loss. He explained the hearing aid options, and the potential negatives of not doing anything, and then fitted me easily with the Lyric in-ear 24/7 aid (NYC Hearing assists in the development of this Swiss-made aid and has the latest versions). Total elapsed time: less than an hour. In the four weeks since I've been very pleased with the comfort and acuity. The return visits have been friendly and efficient and based on my last assessment I have near perfect hearing now with the Lyrics, which I forget I have in - and they are invisible to boot. I heartily recommend Dr. Weible and NYC Hearing. The 67th Street office is modern, clean, and has a wall full of platinum records from satisfied clients of the audiologists and the affiliated nose and throat practice (you'll recognize the Grammy winners among them :). Tara was personable and professional to deal with setting up the appointment and follow-ups.

I understand that hearing aids are a significant investment, which is why I was disappointed by my…read moreexperience with this practice. In April 2021, I purchased my first pair of hearing aids (Widex Moment 110 RIC) from audiologist Marta Gielarowiec for $3,650. At the time, I was told these were among the best hearing aids available. As a first-time hearing aid user, I trusted that recommendation. Unfortunately, I continued to struggle with hearing in environments with background noise, such as restaurants, parties, and other social settings. Conversations often became difficult to follow, and I frequently had to ask people to repeat themselves, which was frustrating and embarrassing. About a year after my purchase, Dr. Gielarowiec began encouraging me to replace my hearing aids, explaining that hearing aid technology advances rapidly. While I understand that newer technology becomes available, purchasing another set so soon after spending thousands of dollars was simply not feasible for me. What concerned me most was that the pressure to "upgrade" continued during subsequent visits. I felt that the focus had shifted from helping me get the most out of my current hearing aids to encouraging another sale. My concerns were reinforced when my husband sought to have his hearing aids repaired. We were told they were more than five years old and could not be repaired. However, another audiologist successfully repaired them and informed us that many patients continue to use and service hearing aids that are well over five years old. Based on my experience, I did not feel that my long-term hearing needs were the priority. If you value an audiologist who focuses on maximizing the performance and lifespan of your existing hearing aids before recommending costly replacements, you may wish to explore other options.
