The job was suppose to include removal all old insulation and closure of gaps around the entire permiter (using tightly installed particle board and foam sealing). The first day the foreman did not get the correct work order and only inistalled the permiter seal without removing all insulation (and was rude when I asked why the removal did not take place). The work was the lowest quality I have ever experienced and took 3 - yes 3 - return trips (after my complaints) to finish the job to a reasonable standard. When they did remove the old insulation, they left pices over the floor and one section in the ceiling- no execuse for this. I recommend using a diff vendor as this group was equal parts rude and incompetent. read more

about a year ago we had Dolphin insulate the crawlspace under our family room. That winter the room was very cold - colder than before Dolphin insulated the crawlspace. We recently had 3 other insulating companies evaluate the situation. All three said that the job was poorly done and the insulation was not properly installed. All three were also critical of material and installation the poly vapor barrier that was placed over the dirt floor. All three companies estimated it would take $12000-15000 to repair and replace. read more

I chose Dolphin Insulation out of 5 bids. Their bid was extremely thorough and included blower test, recommendation such as relocating/reinforcing the rickety walkway, covers for recessed lights which were not mentioned by the other companies. I don't live in a MassSave town, but I wanted a complete job and Dolphin came through. Communication was excellent, employees were knowledgeable and friendly! I came across the company through a search of a building product and decided to give them a try when Mass Save offers them as a contractor for an attic insulation. The crew of Chris, Ryan, Troy and Jack were top notch every step of the way but what happened next separates a good company from the mediocre ones. We noticed that several hvac outlets had little to no air coming out after they finished and I found two areas where the supply plenum were damaged and caused the duct joints to open. The owner Chris and production manager Dave responded right away, took ownership and looked into remedial options. Dave came next day to assess the damage, re-seal all the joints and life is good again. I have been in construction and facilities managemwnt for over two decades and understand that things happen but a great company big or small will never shy away from the issues and always solve them with a can-do attitude. I have had some crummy luck with contractors lately, but this time I truly lucked out. These people love their craft, respect their craft, and take pride in their craft, which shows in all their work. When Bob came out to my house to see what we need to do for MassSave insulation project, he quickly discovered my attic was unholy dump of multiple generation of insulation piled on top of each other (try 50 years worth of insulation) mixed in with carcasses of dead squirrels, trash from roofers, vermin excrement etc. He was adamant that needed to be removed before any sealing and insulation work is done. At first I wasn't sure about that, but boy am I glad I listened to him and had it cleaned out. Crew of several guys labored for a whole day taking that garbage out. They may have been singing there in the attic, but I know that was masking the curses they may have had going through their heads as they were taking out likely 100+ bags of garbage. When the clean-up was done, I discovered rat nest of wiring with some of it chewed up. So Bob basically save my house from catching fire. And that was just the start of the job. Couple months later (took a while to get MassSave to clear me on HVAC problems I had) crew came in to do insulation on my knee walls (which are finally usable now), re-do the attic, and do sealing around the house. Not sure how the heck they were able to do that, but I also asked them to redo my crawlspace, which they manage to squeeze into the two days they were at my house. Unbelievable! Amanda and Tiffany (two sisters who run the company) are as exceptional. Amanda was flying through the paperwork, getting all the details ironed out, dealing with bureaucrats. Tiffany came to make sure everything was running smooth at my house, which actually wasn't truly necessary, because the crew is very autonomous, they make the decisions what to do to hit the deadlines and finish the job properly. There is not cranky foreman watching them and it shows. Result: my boiler is running 50% less and house feels so much warmer. I can turn off the system in the middle of the day and 2nd floor only drops two degrees in the whole day. That used to happen in 1-2 hours. I have several other insulation projects planned and Dolphin crew will be ones doing them for sure. read more

Every interaction we have had - be it with the friendly and knowledgeable people in the office answering the phones, to the crew who came and performed the work has been pleasant and most importantly - EASY. They are so easy to work with, they're clean, and they want to be successful in helping to improve a home's energy performance, costs and comfort. Here are some highlights of our experience working with Dolphin Insulation: 1. The background of their representatives is one of Building Science, not simply basic construction/ traditional insulation methods. The "Energy Engineer" we worked with - Chris - respectfully examined and determined how ventilation, humidity, air leakage and outdoor temperature effect the inside atmosphere and what to do in order to achieve the best results. Referring to them simply as an insulation company seems to sell them short. 2. The crew who came out to do the work was knowledgeable, careful and CLEAN. We had them remove our old attic insulation on a hot day and they gave 100% effort in very difficult working conditions just to mind our concerns over dust and air-quality. They were excellent and highly professional even though the space they were working in was filthy and humid. Never once did they complain. 3. A difficult (creepy) crawlspace area in the basement was addressed, and our site crew leader (also named Chris) exceeded our expectations in air sealing that space as well as adding insulation and a vapor barrier. 4. They vacuumed after working in each and every area. One of the crew members even vacuumed some dust he noticed on the coffee table. This goes a long way with me. 5. In the few days we've had this new insulation we've already noticed our A/C is working better and is more consistent temperature-wise both upstairs and downstairs. We will definitely work with them again. Our home has a bump out to accommodate a gas fireplace, but during the winter cold air would pour in making our family room uncomfortable. I contacted several insulation companies who were not interested. Finally I received a referral for Dolphin Insulation who came out, assessed the situation and gave me a prompt quote. Two weeks later the crew was here and confirmed what we suspected that the insulation provided by the original contractor was sub-par. All of the staff were very prompt, polite and courteous. The bump out is now fully and properly insulated and we are looking forward to a comfortable winter. The work was completed in one day and the job site is as clean as it was before they arrived. Although I did not do business with this company, I would like to leave them a review for being friendly and hospitable. My group's 15 passenger van broke down in their driveway, and they were great to let us use their bathroom. One of the employees called a garage for us to make sure they could get our vehicle in that day. Dolphin insulation answered the phone when I called and Karen set up an appointment for their very knowledgeable building scientist to come out and look at my home. He showed up at the time we scheduled, asked all the right questions and gave me a state of the art solution to a problem I could never seem to fix. I thought it was just an older home and it would always be leaky. It was about double the cost I expected to spend but when he explained all the benefits and ROI it was a no brainer. We scheduled a few days for the install and the crew was friendly, protective of my home, and worked diligently. They cleaned up after and everything looked great. It's been a year now and compared to last year I have saved $4,500 and according to my calculations this job will pay for itself in 4 years saving around $400/month.
