This was an experience I'll never forget. At first when it was mentioned that you can go whale watching at the tip of Cape Cod, I wondered what even are the chances of seeing one. Dolphin Fleet had such a strong guarantee that you'll see one or your next ticket is 1% of what you paid for the first time during migration season (June - October). With such a guarantee, I decided to say yes to my partner's suggestion. The parking is pretty steep at Macmillan Pier at $4/hr, so if you can find flat rate parking for $10 about a half mile away, all the better. Onboard, there will not be seating for everyone, but if you're patient when everyone is along the ledge looking out for whales, you can catch a break. Our naturalist Carolyn was so engaging and she really knew her whale knowledge as well as her bird facts. We saw a few whales - A+ which is the mother of Munchkin (newborn whale this year), 3.14, and two other whales. Putter was the most memorable as he made a full breach only once during our trip. You had to be at "3:00" of the boat to see it and I'm so glad we were at the right spot at the right time. Not even the naturalists know why the whales fully breach, but it is most likely a communications thing. The waters were a bit choppy so if you get seasick, take Dramamine before you set sail. Bring cash if you want to buy any food on board! Highly recommend Dolphin fleet / whale watching in general if you're in Provincetown from June-October! It's worth every dollar. read more

I've had the good fortune to be a part of a number of whale watches over the years with a number of different organizations/companies and I truly believe that the Dolphin Fleet is the best. I believe that one or more of the Dolphin boats were the Portuguese Princess boats that operated out of the same slips years ago. In any event, it's a nice ~1 hour cruise out to Stellwagen bank and we started see whales upon our arrival both from a distance and so close that you were sprayed when they exhale and could smell their breath (really). Went on my first whale watch off the docks of P-Town in more than 30 years and this one did not disappoint. My family's first whale watch and they were thrilled. The staff put on a great presentation about different kinds of whales and all kinds of information about them on the way out to sea, then described what was going on when the whales appeared. So this was an amazing experience from beginning to end. The staff and crew were courteous, funny, and super knowledgeable so that was helpful. If you sit below and outside, it may be difficult to hear the narration but the views are amazing. We happened to go out on an afternoon that was not only super clear, sunny and bright but we had the best luck when it came to whale watching!!! For more than 45 minutes we were surrounded by whales...starboard, port, you name it!!! We saw whales feeding, whales breaching, and whales just chilling and it was amazing!!! The pictures don't do it justice and it was difficult to live in the minute and capture the moment so that was tricky BUT the GOOD news is that you can buy a video or download for a nominal fee from "In The Wild Productions" and the quality is fantastic!!! This way you can just enjoy the whales, the scenery, and the company and review the experience again and again from the comfort of your own home and without having to worry about being splashed! Oh and they have a full bar and snacks available though if you are prone to motion sickness you may not want to indulge. If you're like me they have fun warm adult beverages like Hot White Russians and other yummy treats!!! Overall, an amazing experience. This was probably the best whale watching tour I have ever been on. I have been whale watching in Alaska, Hawaii, and now Cape Cod. Dolphin Fleet had the best variety and closest encounters (while still staying a safe distance away from the whales). I assumed we were going to have to head out to sea for miles in hopes of seeing a few whales, but right off Provincetown we saw tons. In all, we saw grey seals, humpback whales, minke whales, fin whales, and dolphins. The crew was nice and informative as well. I'd like to start off my review by saying the captain ROCKS! Why? Well here goes...my friends and I got stuck in traffic coming up from S. Harwich. It was 4:56PM and we weren't at the dock yet for our 5PM whale watching tour. We ran as fast as we could to get to the dock and pleaded with the girl at the ticket counter to let us onto the boat. She was a complete bi*ch and pretty much told us that she couldn't help us. The boat was still at the dock and the captain saw us there looking miserable/sad and he told her to let us on! What a sweetheart!! So onto the experience...I almost cried. The whales are so beautiful, you can hear them and feel them under the boat. We saw so many whales; the guide said she's never seen so many at one time before. The boat was filled with people's Oooohs and Aaahhs as the whales came up right to the boat. If you get on the 5PM boat you'll also catch the sunset which is a great bonus. Definitely recommended. read more

We were staying in Boston and wanted to go whale watching but read the leaving from Boston .. they go to the same spots as Provincetown Ma but they have to go farther. So they have to go faster and it's a bumper ... ride which had a lot of people puking. My husband has a issue with that so we drove to Provincetown and went with Dolphin fleet. Only one person got sick but they puked right on a baby stroller with baby in it. it was chilly so bring a jacket. We stayed up top for the view but when down after it got to going fast. One the first part of the trip you see a few lighthouses so have your camera ready. We didn't see any whales breach but saw some tails and noses. read more

My sister, her husband, my girlfriend and I embarked from Provincetown on the Dolphin fleet whale watch boat in September of 2019. It was piloted by the amazing Captain John, who was a great teacher and storyteller on the boat's journeys to the waters of Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. We found the marine sanctuary to be teeming with humpback whales, baby whales, and dolphins, all of which were feeding before sunset (the golden hour), a few days before the equinox. This whale watch trip made me feel really thankful that we have this protected area of the ocean, an amazing place to visit. Protecting the ocean from human beings will become a trend in my lifetime, I hope. The staff was great. Best of all- they are VERY DOG FRIENDLY. They welcomed our black lab on the excursion who had the best time ever. Thought this was a good whale watch tour, but with a few minor drawbacks. First, the good: 1. Boat left right on time and was a nice-sized craft with plenty of room on top and sides for viewing the whales, and also large enough to smooth out the rougher seas. 2. Whale guide was extremely knowledgeable about whales, not just in the local area, but also with the biology and migration pattern of the whales. These guys are real scientists, not just tour guides! 3. Boat captain was excellent at maneuvering the ship around to get right next to the whales and all the boat crew were very professional and courteous. 4. Front desk personnel were very accommodating and friendly. We had to change our tour time from 12pm to 1:30pm and they did it with no problem whatsoever. I was afraid they'd say no and we'd lose our money, but they were very cool about it. 5. Price was fair ($44 with a $2 coupon), given the amount of fuel and time they use on the tour. Here are the drawbacks: 1. The speaker system on these boats should be updated with more speakers added, because if you're on the bottom deck, you can only hear the guide in certain areas and in certain seats. In the seats we were in, in the middle of the boat, we couldn't hear anything. 2. The tour is a little long: 3-4 hours. I know that at times they have to go further out in the ocean, however, it does seem like they could cut it down to 2-3 hours and at the same time cut the cost of the tour cause of less fuel used. Because at the current 3-4 hours, it takes up a lot of your daylight time during day, and on a weekend-only trip, this is a lot of precious time. 3. Unless you get really lucky, you're only going to see the tops and backs of the whales, or maybe a dorsal or tail fin. Otherwise, if you were in a breeding area, like the Caribbean or Cabo San Lucas, you'd see the whales jumping almost completely out of the water, which is way much more fun to watch. As the water is colder in the Northeast and food is plentiful, the whales are stocking up on fish and conserving their energy for the long trip down to the Caribbean to breed, so they don't do much jumping. But once in the Caribbean where the water is warmer and they are trying to breed, they jump completely out of the water or do fin flapping to show off to potential mates. When the whales are in the Northeast, they're pretty boring to watch to be honest. But this isn't a fault of the tour operator, obviously. Overall, this is a good tour with some minor drawbacks, and Dolphin Fleet is an excellent tour operator, and you're almost guaranteed to see whales (albeit not much action from them as they don't do any acrobatics). So, if you don't think you'll ever make it to the Caribbean or Cabo to do whale watching, then this is the next best thing. read more

So as a person who has been on a few whale watching excursions......this place delivers the most important thing that a whale watching trip should have.....WHALES!!!!! I saw more whales on this trip than I had on all the other trips in other locations combined. It was AMAZING!!!! Whales coming up all over by the boat, feeding, diving, flipping their enormous tails. Good tour, we saw a lot of whales even a harbor seal ... We went out on the 10am sailing, Crew was professional and knowledge. We had a perfect day. It took about an hour to reach our destination, plenty of time to see the many whales. The captain slowly turned the boat so that everyone had a chance to see everything. The crew made announcements where to look throughout the tour. The boat felt over crowded, we had a party of six no place to sit for the ride to and from the area. My family was spread out. Passengers would hold seats for people in their party and put their belongings on the seats so no one can sit. The crew told me there was 265 passengers plus crew, Many people were pushing and bumping in to me just to get a look and photo of the whales. We were exhaust towards the end of the tour just from the rude and inconsiderate passengers. One large lady actually lost her footing as she was running from side to side slammed into me against the railing, got her picture and moved on. I did enjoy the trip but next time maybe I will do a smaller less crowded boat. read more

I have wanted to go on a whale watch my whole life and this was incredible. The ship is clean and fills up fast so if you have your heart set on a particular seat, get there when boarding opens. There are free motion sickness pills at the bar, I would recommend taking one. Once you arrive to the spot where the whales are it's a lot of bobbing up and down. I don't normally get sea sick, but the hour or so of just bobbing almost did me in. Oh, and the whales! We saw 7 (!!!) and 4 seals. The guide was very knowledgeable giving us fun facts about the specific whales we were seeing and also jump general whale facts. Everyone was friendly and helpful. My girlfriend and I had a great time whale watching. The total time was about 4 hours out in the ocean. We had a great view of the shore lines on the way out and the guide was very knowledgeable about whales with the different species we might see. Where their breeding/feeding grounds are. We saw about a dozen whales and some of which were 5 feet away from the boat. Those were the highlights of the cruise. There was 3 hours of daydreaming and sunbathing then that 1 hour of whale excitement. There are food and drinks on the lower deck, which in my opinion is very expensive......a plain burger with just cheese is about $7 what a rip off! The size of the Dolphin fleet was decent and carried a few hundred people but I also felt that there were to many cause we didn't have enough space to sit in different areas of the boat. They also need to upgrade the speaker system. We couldn't hear what the guide was saying over the loud motor noise near the back of boat. read more

Had an amazing experience several years ago but this last visit was sort of blah. We chased a pair of humpbacks around the bay (this is apparently very rare) to see their backs a handful of times. Then went out into the ocean and had one great up close with a sunfish and one great up close with a finwhale right under the water. Disappointed compared to my last trip when we spent 20 min or so watching a pod of humpbacks group hunt, it was AMAZING. This trip not so much. Maybe late Sept is too late in the season? read more

UPDATE: Horrible experience! I have come here at least 10-15 times over the last 3 years. Loyal customer you may say. At $47 per ticket and friends joining that's a lot of money. This last time it was end of June 2018. Took the tour, that took 4 hours instead of usual 2 or so and saw only one whale! It was miserable. Their policy is if you see a whale no refunds. One whale in 4 hours, really?! Went to customer service and basically asked for tickets for another day provided how much money I spent with them, nothing! The manager (Richard I think) was rude and said absolutely not. Is that a way to treat your loyal customers?! Absolutely not. I would say avoid. By the way they also knew we were not going to see much that day, but we still went out on the boat. Stay away! ******** Have used dolphin fleet a few times over the last couple of years for whale watching - amazing! Highly honest staff, good boats and cool atmosphere. They are my favs from all the companies used in New England. Bare in mind lines are very long on the weekends, so suggest you go during off season (not summer months). read more
