Each time, the six hour trip is a different adventure, dependent on the wind and what we want to do that day. One year we just cruised up and down Herring Cove beach, taking the motorized jetty out so we could run some of the waves. One year we stayed in the Bay and looked at seals (as well as the normal Provincetown otters and bears). This past week, with limited wind, we just relaxed on the boat in the middle of the bay, jumping into the water when drinking white wine on-deck became too demanding. Six men (plus the captain, Chris) fit very comfortably on the deck, and Chris is beyond patient with our (still) pretty basic questions on the sailing life. He has great stories and is incredibly friendly. This is always a highlight of the week for us. With a stunning backdrop of Provincetown, an great captain, and a beautiful boat, there's nothing else like it.

The company has been doing this for 50 year so the crew is actually super familiar with all of the different whales and can identify them by name! We didn't see a "full breach" where they jump out of the water, but we saw tons of surfacing to air, some hand stands and whale tails. Super cool! The ship itself was very clean and there was lots of space to move around and see the whales. We sat on the second deck and could go to side to side to see them. The captain does a good job or rotating the boat so everyone can see. The crew was so friendly and did a great job of informing everyone about the whales! Highly recommend this!!

You can also book a private trip, which is slightly more expensive of course. Captain Ro and Kaled were a great team and made us feel safe, comfortable, and welcomed. It was a beautiful day to sail (week before Labor Day weekend) and Captain Ro allowed us to climb onto the deck once we killed the engine and were out in the bay. These trips do not guarantee animal sightings but we did see a whole group of seals bobbing their heads out of the water watching us as we sailed on by, which was extremely endearing to see. There was no expectation to even see any whales, because I know there are never guarantees with nature.. But it was a very special trip with our children and our neighbor from California who recently lost his spouse. I called after 10 AM when I saw there was a 1 PM opening for a private charter, Chad immediately called me back and even though it took me quite a while to rally the troops, he held this spot for us. He definitely went over and above. Then Captain Jesse I told him I'd write a Cell was the icing on the cake by his kindness, knowledge, excitement, and so much more. It is well worth the money to do this. Big boats are fine, but this was something that will be embedded in our hearts forever.

She was incredibly knowledgeable, full of energy, and genuinely passionate about whales and nature. You could tell this is more than just a job for her. She even had a whale tattoo on her leg, which made her love for these incredible animals even more authentic. We learned so much from her, and it was refreshing to have a guide so excited to share her knowledge. She kept pointing out the whales as they surfaced, and her timing was perfect, just when you thought the action had moved on, she would spot another humpback breaching or lifting its tail before diving back down. If you can, try to get on one of Sophie's tours. I've been on whale watching tours before, but I have never seen anything like this. Our four kids were beyond excited as we saw what felt like 40 to 60 humpback whales. The boat ride itself was fantastic, with the salty spray in the air and everyone crowding the rails every time a whale came up close. It was one of the most incredible wildlife experiences we have ever had. At first, I thought the tour was a little pricey, but as my son said, "Dad, this was worth every dollar. You should have paid more." He was right. We happily tipped Sophie and the crew on our way out because they absolutely earned it. If you are visiting Provincetown, do not miss this experience. It was one of the highlights of our trip, and I would recommend it to anyone.
