I never have high expectations for Wal-Mart. Welcome to corporate America, and everyone hates…read moreWal-Mart. But they still shop here. I have dropped my mother off at the door many times and just waited in the car, never experiencing the store. I just went to the giant superstore in Springfield when I needed something. But I started shopping here about a month ago, and I was pleasantly surprised. As I usually do during the first trip to a grocery store, I walk every single isle and explore what they have, familiarize myself with general locations of key items I buy, compare some prices. Speeds up future trips when I want to get in and out quickly, or know I need to go somewhere else for a specialty item. I was pleasantly surprised to find this store had more than I expected. Employees are actually really friendly. There's a guy I always see picking up carts from the parking lot, and he's greeting people as they go in or as they're leaving. He's familiar enough with regulars that he greets some by name. He's not BFFs with them, he simply knows the regulars. I kind of like that. They don't have the annoying greeter who acts more like a bouncer at the door to stare you down and demand a receipt before you can leave. I hate how the superstore in Springfield does that these days. The store is much smaller than the superstores and isn't open 24 hours. The big things I like are, they aren't constantly out of staple items I buy, I don't have to fight traffic, or wait in long lines because they're only running one real check stand and the rest self checkout. The store is small enough that my mother can walk around it without difficulty. She has terminal cancer and the chemo drugs have killed her energy. So when I take her in here, she feels productive being able to go shopping without a motorized cart or just getting exhausted trying to walk. Bathrooms are easy to get to. Again, if the chemo meds are screwing with her, she doesn't have to worry about anything because the bathrooms aren't far away. If I send her alone, they help by taking her purchases out to the car, loading them into the trunk. It's not a store where you're just another random asshole and they don't care about making a good impression because they know you'll come back either way. They really strive to make it a good experience and help. The bigger stores could take a lesson in customer service from them. They also run at least two or sometimes three check stands when I've gone in I really The other great thing about being a smaller store is it's easier on my wallet. I go in for specifics and don't have the option to be distracted by other stuff I don't need. No distractions equals cheaper in my narrow little world. I would highly recommend this store because it's smaller than the superstores, parking and shopping is much easier, and the customer service is excellent. Review 35 of 2017.

Why go here, with all the complaints here about parking and a coercive remodel you see online?…read moreBecause it is not in the least pretentious, the products are good, the prices are low (though their comparisons are high), the quality is mostly good. Lots of organic and specialty stuff, including gluten-free goodies. Here's an example: This organic, fair trade, sustainably sourced, not-Reese's peanut butter cup (https://www.theochocolate.com/product/121) sells from the manufacturer for $2.29. The same product was approaching its 3/29/2017 "best by" date when I first saw, tried, and loved it for $1.00 a pack at Grocery Outlet. A couple of weeks later the (meaningless) "best by" date has passed, and the yummies are 88¢... and I buy two cases. Multiply this find by three dozen, and you get my usual Grocery Outlet shopping basket: bananas, sausage, cheeses, GF pizza, cheap canned goods, chips, candy, beer, wine, protein and snack bars, and on and on. Caveat emptor and all that, but you can't beat a lot of the bargains. The "you saved $N.nn" schtick as you check out is a broadly-accepted jest; our unofficial goal is always to "save" more than we spend. And we usually do! That said, do NOT go here the first of the month. Ever. All those people complaining about how far they have to haul themselves to the door will be there, having a social outing and blocking the aisles. If you ever pull into the parking lot and there are no shopping carts in the corral by the door, come back another time.

You know how you go to Costco and you swear you're not gonna get that much this time...(right)…read more I went and looking for a chance to pick up contacts and found Akash in Optical or eyewear exceptionally knowledgeable and professional. He was very helpful in helping me assess my options. The staff there ran operations very smoothly, somebody explained that there were no more take a number of options but we scanned the QR code to be put into line. Then based on what we selected in terms of why we were there, different staff people approached us streamlining operations and reducing wait time. It was when I decided to weigh my options by wandering the warehouse that I got into trouble. Did you know that they carry both Maldon salt flakes as well as Celtic salt flakes? Celtic salt is known to be the most nutrient dense salt. Maldon tub was only nine dollars and the Celtic salt flakes were under five dollars. There was no way not to take those home. In my current situation a kitchen is not an option so for the first time ever I picked up the microwavable rice as well as the dried salted seaweed, and the kimchi. Each of those were a matter of sheer convenience. But it was Larry, one of the stalkers who saw me trying to hold everything in my arms and dropping things here and there that asked me very politely and probably with a bit of a knowing smile if I needed a cart. I told him I did not want to. He said he understood and then proceeded to tell me he would secure one for me if I would like. I knew he was right. I really appreciated his attentiveness and the humor with which he understood my situation as one of the thousands who decide every time they're in Costco that they're just not gonna buy as much... And then change our minds because the deals are so good. The ladies who are at checkout worked so well together. They had a great sense of humor and it was nice to engage people in a good mood. Then I unexpectedly remembered that I had something in my trunk that I was planning to return the next time I was at Costco. The guy at returns was very efficient and friendly: helpful. He was really easy-going and thoughtful and made the line move quickly. The caliber of staff at Costco was just superlative today. It was a fun experience at Costco again -- even if I didn't get what I originally came for I got what really made me feel the trip was worth well anyway. Thanks Costco. Thank you Larry. Thank you Akash. Thanks ladies at the cashier. Thanks guy at Returns.

We always enjoy walking through these stores--there's something interesting around every corner, and the wide selection makes it easy to discover new products or stock up on favorites. On this trip, we were also trying to keep our everyday costs down while traveling. We're staying in an Airbnb that has a coffee maker and provides basic coffee, but we prefer flavored coffees. From past visits, we knew that US Foods Chef'Store carries an impressive selection of coffee syrups, with far more variety than you'd typically find at a regular grocery store. Rather than spending $5 to $7 each day on coffee while out and about, we planned ahead and stopped in to pick up a bottle of syrup to use during our stay. It turned out to be a simple and cost-effective solution. The store was easy to get in and out of, and the only real challenge was narrowing down our choice from the many different syrup flavors and brands available. Overall, this stop was quick, efficient, and exactly what we needed. If you've never been to a US Foods Chef'Store--whether you're shopping for bulk items, specialty ingredients, or just looking for better value--we definitely recommend checking one out.
