However, today when I came into the store devoid of shoppers, I selected 4 ceramic mugs and other items to the register. I was checked out and I looked around for something to wrap the mugs in to avoid breakage. I have shopped in Dollar tree store locations at this and other locations both in NJ and other states, and the register clerk has ALWAYS wrapped my breakables like glass and mugs. ALWAYS. When I enquired for newspaper because I saw I would need to perform this function myself, I was told by this individual that Dollar Tree NEVER wraps anything and this was as long as he had worked for Dollar Tree. I replied that he must not have been working for the company for long because I had shopped here and at other stores for more than a decade and that has always been the case. He further added that if he caught any of his employees doing this for a customer they would be fired on the spot. He was belligerent. I own Dollar Tree stock and I am offended by this employee who ought be providing customer service not unwarranted push back to a regular customer. This person was troubled. If it were me, and Dollar Tree changed policy, I would certainly not be speaking to a customer so rudely while glaring at them. And this Napolean complex employee should not be in charge of a store. It's a shame but in this retail environment, I can shop elsewhere for comparable items. I don't have to drive to a store to be treated shabbily.

One hour and 20 minutes later I receive a notification letting me know that the item was out of stock. This is inconvenient of course, but understandable. I called the location because I had used a coupon on that item that expires and I was wondering what other options there were for me to get that item since it is sold out online and all the locations within an hour of me. The first woman I spoke to was very understanding and helpful... other than the fact she left me on a "brief" hold for over 40 minutes!!! I hung up the phone and called back 4 times until someone picked up. I explained the situation and the man could not have been more unprofessional, it was like he had never taken a phone call before. I asked for advice on what I should do to get the item and he replies "well, uh, what do you mean help you?" I also explained that the lady told me she would check with a colleague if she could honor my item and / or coupon and the man replied "uh what lady." Their prices are reasonably competitive, and the shelves are consistently well stocked, which makes planning and shopping much easier. Is the layout counterintuitive? Absolutely. Is it annoying to have to use a quarter to get a cart? Definitely. But the staff more than make up for these quirks. The team is friendly and genuinely helpful across the board--the produce section, deli counter, fresh fish area, the kind cashiers, and especially the amazing butcher team. They seem happy to be here and happy to help, and that energy really comes through. The icing on the cake is the other shoppers. People are respectful with their carts, offer a smile as they pass, and do small, gracious things--like letting someone with two items go ahead of their overflowing cart. It all adds up to a place that simply feels good to shop in. As Maya Angelou said, "People will never forget how you made them feel," and that's exactly why I keep coming back to this store.
