I went to savers today and needed to go to…read morethe bathroom but I didn't want to use theirs because their bathrooms are filthy and disgusting, so when I went to Ollies after for more shopping I was hoping to use their bathroom since its cleaner. Nope. The bathrooms now have a sign that say "employees only" for no reason?!. I asked an employee if he could let me go but he told me no and referred me to savers next door. Not happy at all. Please change this Ollies, I don't mean to be a bitch but this is seriously ridiculous.

One day last year I brought my daughter there, and in walked Steve Carell. That was a shock to both of us. He was so friendly to all the customers that it was a joy to see him. I meant to go back this August because that was the month we saw him. Other things I like there are amusing cocktail napkins and greeting cards. Also, the candy corner of the store reminds me of penny candy stores when I was a kid and is a nice place for children to visit. And the last time I was there I discovered that they had some good wines that I had never seen elsewhere. It is certainly one of Marshfield's treasures.

Before we were going to leave, we looked for the restroom. When we found it, the entire hallway leading to it was dark and had been blocked off with room dividers and a sign saying out of order. We made a joke about it because it had the look of a closed off area, not just temporarily out of order. We were exiting the store, walking past the checkout area when an associate, a middle aged woman who had the look of being some kind of shift supervisor, basically wanted to start a confrontation with us. As we were walking past, well within proximity for us to hear her, she made a comment to a young associate that seemed to be about us joking about the restroom out of order sign. We turned to clarify what she had said and she repeated that we made some joke about the restrooms being closed. We did not engage with her and left. I went back to the vestibule area to look in to see her name tag, but I couldn't see one. Then we left. I had planned to write to Ollie's corporate but found on their website a rigid format to leave positive remarks but no interest expressed in hearing other feedback. As I tried to find a way to communicate with them, I learned that they have some very unpleasant actions against them, touching on discrimination and other unpleasantness. At that point it seemed that this kind of employee may be just the expression of their management, and I decided not to try to correspond with them. Then I came to Yelp and saw the recent review and comment about the restrooms having been closed since June of 2025. I suspected when this happened that she was particularly sensitive about the restrooms being closed. It appears that Ollie's has developed a very negative culture. I would avoid them in the future.

The employee working at the costumer service register was very rude to me. I told the CS person that I was returning it because the awning was defective and had broken while I attempted to assemble it. The customer service person said it looked used? I told her it came that way. She argued with me and wasted my time arguing for 10 min while continuing to tell me that the awning looked used. I had the receipt and she resisted giving me my refund. Finally the manager of the store came over and suggested I get another awning. I said no, I would prefer a refund. The manager finally gave me my refund. Like the other Yelp reviewer said of Ocean State "Don't recommend giving money to this company. This place sucks. Management sucks. Employees suck. And the cheap damn products suck?" I agree with that reviewer Gabe W.
