There are many things overpriced compared to Walmart prices but then some things are pretty close. This place is worth it when you don't want to drive all the way over to Walmart and deal with that chaos.

I can get better deals at both Walmart, Albertson's Market, and the nearby Thriftway Market - plus all three of those places sell produce. This DG does not. But it was on the way to my destination, so I picked up some beverages. The parking lot was still packed with snow and ice from a storm the previous weekend. The very cool thing about this place, though, was the signage on the front door: "We are OPEN FOR BUSINESS during [power outages]. We are continuing to support our community during the power outage. = Your DG Team."

Considering how busy it was, staff kept this place organized and clean. I hope the local clientele will maintain a sense of decency and respect by not trashing it out. So why not 5 stars? This franchise is by no means "$5 and below" any more than Dollar Tree sells $1 items only these days. Maybe that's not fair, so I also have to bring up the lousy self-checkout facilitation. So if I am required to check myself out, then why is a small bag of Lindor chocolates $6? As if! The grand opening will be this weekend beginning on Friday, February 27, 2026.

While it may seem like they have quite a bit of inventory, it never fails that they are either completely out or low in stock on certain items. So I resort to Amazon. And let me tell ya' - in this small town that's a love/hate story in and of itself. TIP Almost everything goes on sale at least 40% off at various times each month. If frames aren't on sale 50% off one week, then try the following week. Or just ask an associate. Parking is free & abundant. Our first visit here in June was lackluster. The store itself is okay for the most part, but a bit disheveled and disorganized in other areas. I like that we didn't have to flag down an attendant to open up a dressing room. Our second visit on July 3, 2024 was a little better. My oldest picked out some birthday clothes. One article of clothing was missing a price tag. Our checkout attendant had another employee grab another skirt just like it. She took forever! Then she came back with a skirt that was the complete opposite... "Will it accept it at this price?" "Sure," I exasperated. I won't be rushing back any time soon, but it is an option for clothes, home decor, and gift ideas.

The reason I'm marking two stars off... 1) They tend to be on the higher end of what should be thrift store prices. 2) They are not accepting donations right now. One other place I usually go is also not accepting donations (as of January 3, 2025), but JD's has done this more than any other thrift store here and it's discouraging. In the December 27-28, 2024 edition of the Hobbs News-Sun newspaper, they quoted presumed owner Cissy Diaz, "We have our kitchen, the food pantry, the [former Fellowship of Believers] church is now a thrift store, we have a ministry home," Diaz said. "So your time, your effort, money, canned goods any of that. Non-profits you never know, but if you want to be hands on, come and join us." But they weren't accepting donations less than a week later. I don't get it. When they do accept items, the sign around the back says Donation Drop-offs are Monday, Thursday & Friday 10AM-4PM. That's where you'll drop them off. Friendly folks inside every time I show up.
