I spent close to an hour in the store picking up groceries for the week. As I went to check out, there was not a single line open at 8:30 in the morning nor was there a single employee to be seen I had no choice, but to bring my full cart through the self checkout I didn't get a discount for checking my full cart of groceries out. But that's an entirely different rant. When the self service machine notice I picked up the magic wand because it had fallen it detected that as a theft so it locked the machine up so I couldn't check out anything else and again at this point, there's still no employee around one finally showed up asked me what the problem was and I said I don't know it locked up on me. It may have been because I picked this up and that's what it was so it picked up a possible theft when in actuality I was picking up there equipment that had fallen off. It's a little hanger. The one employee seemed upset with me that I would be angry because there was no employee around, but that wasn't the last of it as I paid bagged up all my groceries wheeled them out as I was passing said soul employee he started laughing at me talk about a total lack of respect for customers.

But Ted made my exchange and sneaker selection easy. He was helpful and didn't act like he wanted to be anywhere else but at work. That's generally the energy you get from people at that store. Management sucks and so do the staff but Ted is one of kind and should run one of those stores before they lose all they're clientele to other locations. I got good prices on the shoes too. This is part of the Durham Rescue Mission chain of stores (I think there are two other thrift…read morestores in the area). I think it's the smallest one so the selection is not as wide as the other locations. In any case, you can still hunt for clothing, housewares, books, CDs, etc., here. We always donate our used items here, and you can drive around to the back to donate and get a receipt. Thrift stores are hit or miss, but I guess that's part of the allure. You just never know what you might find. I've gotten clothes and shoes here and have perused the housewares and CDs. If you're in this part of Durham, stop in and take a peek. PS, during COVID, they take your temperature before as you enter the store.
