HORRIBLE shopping experience here …read more.. Store - 4723 NC Hwy 55 Durham NC I drove about 25 minutes across town to purchase three packs of Globe Light Bulbs (approx $50 purchase). While shopping I located some additional items I wanted. A total of at least $100. The store only had one pack of the bulbs that I wanted on the shelf. I located a lady on the floor named Carolyn. I asked her if she had another pack of bulbs to complete my purchase. The time is 8:10pm on Friday night. Carolyn looked me dead in the face and said - " We probably do have some in the back but to be honest it's probably hard to get to". She said "it's so much stock and stuff I won't be able to check but I'm sure we have them - you will just have to come back another day". She had a smirk on her face the entire time. Here I am standing in the store getting ready to spend at least $100 bucks. I had drove 25 minutes from Raleigh to Durham to grab items from this location. I put all of my items back and left the store.

As I went to check out, there was not a single line open at 8:30 in the morning nor was there a single employee to be seen I had no choice, but to bring my full cart through the self checkout I didn't get a discount for checking my full cart of groceries out. When the self service machine notice I picked up the magic wand because it had fallen it detected that as a theft so it locked the machine up so I couldn't check out anything else and again at this point, there's still no employee around one finally showed up asked me what the problem was and I said I don't know it locked up on me. It may have been because I picked this up and that's what it was so it picked up a possible theft when in actuality I was picking up there equipment that had fallen off. It's a little hanger. The one employee seemed upset with me that I would be angry because there was no employee around, but that wasn't the last of it as I paid bagged up all my groceries wheeled them out as I was passing said soul employee he started laughing at me talk about a total lack of respect for customers.

I was under the illusion that this was going to be a bar style trivia, and it was actually more like LGBTQ/Local trivia. That's great for inclusivity I just had another idea in my head of what the situation might be like. The space is rather small without much seating so for trivia we had to get there early to grab a seat. The coffee bar has a lot of tasty offerings but the book selection is pretty limited and not the broadest selection but I'm sure for those it's aimed at it excels. The space is very cute and there's lots of ample parking outside. This is a lovely addition to south Durham which is lacking in coffee shops and third spaces.

But Ted made my exchange and sneaker selection easy. He was helpful and didn't act like he wanted to be anywhere else but at work. That's generally the energy you get from people at that store. Management sucks and so do the staff but Ted is one of kind and should run one of those stores before they lose all they're clientele to other locations. I got good prices on the shoes too. This is part of the Durham Rescue Mission chain of stores (I think there are two other thrift…read morestores in the area). I think it's the smallest one so the selection is not as wide as the other locations. In any case, you can still hunt for clothing, housewares, books, CDs, etc., here. We always donate our used items here, and you can drive around to the back to donate and get a receipt. Thrift stores are hit or miss, but I guess that's part of the allure. You just never know what you might find. I've gotten clothes and shoes here and have perused the housewares and CDs. If you're in this part of Durham, stop in and take a peek. PS, during COVID, they take your temperature before as you enter the store.
