It's just about a guarantee that if you walk into this store, you are coming out with something. Some may say this store is stimulation overload, but for most other (women) it's such a fun place to be. From house decor, to season decorations, to furniture, to endless pillows, to eclectic variety of foods, there is something for everyone. I'd say the biggest draw to World Market is its expansive collection of ethnic foods that aren't normally found in grocery stores. You can find British favorites (lots of Cadbury, mince pies, marmite, Walkers, Christmas crackers) to tons of Asians snacks (unique varieties of KitKats, ramens and Pocky's) to Italian heaven, all sorts of pastas, tinned fish, etc. WorldMarket is a great place to easily put together a care package for someone you love. It had been a while since I visited World Market. I'm not sure why I ventured into this location but it was a good visit. I purchased some wine, lavender pillow spray, and a few other knick-knacks. There was an issue with a customer at the register where two employees were working on it. No long after, another employee came up front to open another register. This was helpful so that I didn't have to wait long to check out. I enjoyed perusing the isles while in the store. There are a myriad of items I could use at home but didn't need to have rendering them want-to-haves! read more

I'm a huge Cost Plus World Market fan and since I don't have one close to home I go in one any chance I get. Like other stores in the chain the Durham location offers lots of imported furniture and home decor but here are some of my favorite World Market items: - funny and cute greeting cards - gift wrap stuff like festive bags and patterned tissue paper - scented bar soap - scarves and jewelry - high quality chocolate - make your own six packs - table decor - little trinkets and toys There is a ton to look at at this big box store so I always prefer going when I have lots of time to go aisle by aisle. read more

I've been coming here since it opened and am a member of their Explorers Club loyalty program. We come mainly for the international food and drink but have occasionally purchased kitchen items and other wares. Unfortunately, I think their food selection has gotten smaller over the years. Check out the clearance endcaps at the back of the store for food on sale. They usually have other sales throughout the year and clearance on seasonal items (e.g., Christmas stuff on sale after Dec. 25). We love shopping at this World Market, whether it is because we actually need to buy something or if we just want to browse fun snacks and trinkets. The selection in the store in huge. They have everything from kitchen accessories to furniture to chocolates to ice cream to wine. They have wines available in a wide price range and from a variety of locations around the world. Around the holidays, World Market has a nice selection of ornaments. They also have nice Christmas chocolates and cakes. During COVID, the store is offering online order and curbside pickup. The curbside pickup parking spots are located directly in front of the store. Also, since the store is so large and there are usually not many people inside at the same time it is very easy to maintain distance from other shoppers. read more

I have to give WM 5 stars for pretty much furnishing half our apartment and our soon to be new family den all on a budget. Furniture value is where WM gets a huge leg up on the competition...and if you factor in the sales, well, you might walk out with some killer bargains to boot. Most of the furniture we've purchased was constructed with a combination of solid woods and MDF with veneers. Just good enough and (so far) has lasted well past the 1.5 year mark with very little wear and tear. Now, don't get me wrong. The furniture at WM is prolly just ever so slightly better than some stuff you could find at places like Target or even IKEA. So, don't expect to get something high quality here. But it's there when you haven't quite made that big step to adulthood and graduated the college futon[1]. Even away from their bigger items, we love the store just for the nice little touches. Need a small console table? A bench? A lamp? Some artwork? Maybe some decent looking curtains? The accessory potential here is amazing... And when you've escaped the rubberwood clutches of the expansive furniture showroom dispersed throughout the store, don't forget to make your way over to the decent wine section. They carry a good selection and have many well-priced and cheap ($10 or under) Californians and imports. Don't worry, this ain't no 2-buck-chuck....just a hair bit above that and something you don't have to feel like hiding in a paper bag when you decide to regift it! Food and more food....if you have a penchant for unique foods from around the world...well, WM lives up to that as well....and coffee. I bought a pound of their Sumatra blend the other day...and honestly, it was surprisingly good - had a lot of flavour and depth more than I would have expected from shelf-laden coffee beans. For food, I can find brands from other states/countries that I can't find here in other NC stores - e.g., Texans can find their Bob's kettle potato chips, Canadians can find their Aerobars and Coffee Crisps. You can also rock out on some killer CHEAP spices - 99 cents for the small bags of spices like oregano, thyme, curry, etc. So...overall, WM fits that niche where you're not quite ready for Pottery Barn/Restoration Hardware prices, but want some sort of style and finesse in your life. Do as Helena says and join the Explore club - it's free and the coupon/offers they send you are def. worth it! I love stopping by this place whenever I go to Southpoint Mall (the location of World Market is super convenient for this reason), because of their diverse and international array of foods and wines. The store really does deserve to be called Cost Plus World Market, because most of the prices are actually reasonable and in some cases, surprisingly low. I really like their World Market-branded chocolate bars (only $1.99 and good quality stuff) and appreciate the fact that they have bins of sample-sized products for those looking to try multiple things w/o the high price tag. They also have an excellent selection of tea and coffee. Home and decorations are also at very affordable prices and look great. My only suggestion would be for them to carry more exotic foods and flavors/brands of candy, since most of their selection is the commonly found international brands. But since they're a chain, it's understandable that it would be difficult to pull off. read more

Complete with a pretty awesome beer, wine, tea, coffee, chocolate, fancy spreads and jarred sections, World Market can get the job done if you need a few quick fixes for a party; not to omit candles, curtains and furniture if you're really starting from scratch. World Market does affordable-fancy pretty right with something for every occasion. In fact, I think the only thing that would make it better was if it were open later or 24-hours! I'm sure no one there would agree, but it's basically my convenience store. We've also bought quite a few furniture items there. And that's where the star gets lost...although they have great prices, but quality, across the board, meh. And exchanging that stuff (because it's often big), though a pretty simple store procedure, not so easy. Essentially I would just like to reliably open the box and have it "work." Decent store to wander around and perhaps make a few impulse buys. They have a good selection of dishes and at one point we had bought all of our bowls and plates from World Market, but over time they broke and we replaced them with dishes from somewhere else. Had they still had the same dishes in stock, we would have re-upped as they were reasonably priced, had both form and function, and lasted a long time. There's a decent selection of packaged foodstuffs from around the world, though I am suspect about how long they've been sitting on the shelves. Good selection of candy and chocolate bars, tea, soft drinks, pickled stuff and condiments at prices that are slightly inflated. You'd be better off either hitting up an ethnic grocery store, your local supermarket or a specialty food store as the price will be comparable and the turnover is better. Pretty good selection of wine and always some on sale, but like the grocery items, you'd do just as good elsewhere. They also have furniture and mass-produced art, throw pillows and handbags, and they must sell scented candles or potpourri as there's a heavy, sweet scent that's almost overpowering, and for me as someone who can't stand scents like this, borderline nauseating. I've no complaints about the staff. They've been helpful when I needed help and I've not encountered any rudeness except for the occasional time when someone might be having a bad day, but it's nothing that a smile on my behalf can't change. Even though we seem to go in here a lot, there's not a lot of our money spent here unless it's Christmas where World Market excels at stocking stuffers. If we were looking for indoor or outdoor furniture I could see looking here along with a dozen other places. Worth popping in if you are nearby. I really like coming here. Much better than Pier One. They actually have real sales, unlike others, who run the price up and then discount it. They have a rewards program, where you get $10.00 off when you spend $200, and believe me, it doesn't take long. They have a very unique section of furniture, sweets, wines and some GREAT greeting cards. Need to check the wine prices carefully, as they will have 3 different prices. One for a case, one for 6 bottles and then for ONE bottle, I got burned a few times thinking I was purchasing a $8.00 bottle, when in fact, that was the CASE price. The customer service here is great. The assistant manager, "Helen" goes out of her way to make sure you are satisfied. Helps with product choices etc. btw, they also have several brands of Indian foods that are in pouches ready to heat and serve over rice. About $3.00. very good. Come by and see for yourself. When you step into World Market, it's like stumbling into the warehouse of an eclectic collector. A variety of fantastic vintage-style clocks hang on the wall across from massive canvas prints. Exotic rugs in bold florals and thick weaves hang just steps away from a vintage-style drafting table and shelf of root beer in glass bottles. It seems like every color, metal, and country is represented somewhere in this one massive room--"World Market" is right. And, to make it even better, the prices are very reasonable and sales seem to be frequent. This is my new #1 stop for all kinds of gifts (elephant earrings? Vintage camera ornament? Miniature globe?) and eclectic decor. Now, if warehouse/flea market shopping isn't so much your thing, WM might not be the place for you. Everything is nicely organized, but some sections are split into several displays and scattered throughout the store. Aisles might be crammed too full for easy navigation. And the chocolate is just too tempting to pass up.... All in all, though, the style is completely me. I loved every second of shopping at WM, and will definitely be back. read more

I love coming here. I always find the same sorts of trinkets I might find at a flea market or a little local specialty shop. And the FOOD.....I always go home with European chocolates, southern pecan logs, parsnip chips, lobster pate', Soda jerk style sodas, and probably some prosecco or something..... There are just so many little novelties to be had. I'm not over in Southpoint that often, but when I am, I make a point of meandering in here and taking a gander at all the little pieces of kitsch that I so savor. read more

Recently, I placed an online order for a large wall clock, then received notification that it was out of stock. I then called a local World Market store (at a few minutes before their closing) to see if it was in stock there and spoke to Jason, General Manager. He was extraordinarily helpful in finding a clock for me. There was a glitch in the inventory count and he went beyond the call of duty to connect me with Brittany, General Manager, New York, who graciously completed my order. I love World Market - love its selections of items from ready-made foods to decor to furniture. So this review is not about that - it's about why, the last few times I've been there, it seems that the only person actually working there is one hard-working gentleman at one cash register as a long line forms and no other WM help is in sight. One remaining world market in Durham. The one in Northpointe closed in 2010 which makes this store a further drive for us. We like coming to world market to see its furniture offerings, and their knick knacks. However, the most appealing thing for us are its import food selections and their kitchenware. They stock Australian biscuits and lollies - they are one of the few places we know that sells Tim Tams (but known as Arnott's chocolate biscuits) as well as Freddo frog and Caramelo Koalas etc. In our last trip, we basically emptied their shelf of Tim Tams. World Market has everything you do and don't need. It is the best place for gift shopping, especially if the person for whom you're buying is highly selective and / or, actually, if you have no idea what to get for them. This particular store is located in Southpoint Crossing along with Best Buy, Planet Beach, SYNCStudio, and Nordstrom Rack, etc. I hate driving and walking in that parking lot because the turns are sharp, parking can be sparse, and the pedestrians and drivers are ubiquitous, with each forgetting that they alternate playing both roles (i.e., the drivers want to run over the pedestrians, but then just stroll across the street when it's their turn to walk). Anyway, heed this advice: CONSTANT VIGILANCE! The wine and beer selection here is pretty impressive. I can find all of my good German beer that I miss from my younger years in Bavaria. They also, generally speaking, carry Abita seasonals, which is one of only a handful of places in the Triangle that do. They also carry a decent local variety. There are also tons of German, Swiss, and British cookies and candies and cakes. All of my favorite Haribo and Ferrero candies and chocolates. They've even got Kinder eggs! The longest word I know in German: Kinderüberraschungseierspielzeugsammler. That's a person who collects Kinder Surprise toys! Also: great coffee. Join their Coffee Club and they'll stamp it for every 16oz you purchase. Double punch Wednesdays! There's a ton of stuff for entertaining and parties, like glasses and tiki torches and furniture, that of course change with each season. Often their stuff is on sale. They have a neat jewelry section, too. Follow them on Twitter, fan them on facebook, and sign up for their World Market Explorer rewards program, because they send out coupons like crazy. The answer is yes, I apparently live under a rock and had never been to World Market until last week. My intention was to look only but before I knew it I had signed up for the World Explorers program which gives you discounts and freebies for accrued points made on purchases. I didn't really feel like there was a huge international presence by the selection of products they offered except for the food and drink aisles. A lot of the usual suspects but some things that were new to me. The paper goods section was probably my favorite looking at stationery, gift bags and small novelties kept my attention the longest. The furniture area has some cool table and chair sets that were old world rustic looking that were competitively priced but I didn't think the dishes were anything other than cute. I guess for me most stores are world markets with a majority of products coming from Asia and Indonesia anyway though this store does curate interesting collections. Other stand outs for me was the jewelry section and decorative mirrors. Although the jewelry section was small they did have some pieces that impressed me. I bought a beaded choker that is one of my current faves at the moment. I have no room in my house for furniture or much of anything for that matter but I did see a future for future reference. The fabrics were pretty and the benched tables had contemporary Old World style that I could see incorporating into a home. I still think if you want indigenous items that support community of origin I'd suggest Ten Thousand Villages where a portion goes back to the small local co-ops and businesses that manufacture their items mostly by hand. This place has no philanthropical value but is an enjoyable place to shop and I'm sure I'll be back to use my discounts. The World Market by Southpoint is my new favorite store for gifts, unique snacks and home decor. If you've never been, do yourself a favor and roam around the store for a bit, you'll probably discover something that you saw and loved on an international trip but couldn't fit in your suitcase. The product selection is fun and eclectic like Anthropologie, but more affordable and globally-influenced. Beyond home decor, they offer a great selection of gifts - pictures frames, candles, kitchen gadgets, and seasonal items - and the international snack selection is awesome. You'll find things like Haribo gummies, Japanese matcha Kit Kats and Pocky, and European chocolates and cookies. read more

I have enjoyed shopping at World Market for years. I go there for kitchen items. They have a fabulous selection of bowls, plates, glassware and utensils as well as pots, pans, and other cooking tools. This is the section where I can get lost and spend way too much money. We entertain a lot and I'm always tempted by new place settings and accoutrements. I go there for wine / beer and snacks. They have a wonderful selection of adult beverages to choose from, as well as snacks to accompany them. You'll usually find my basket / cart filled with popcorn, olives, dark chocolate, red wine, sake, and a bunch of imported miscellaneous goodies. I also go there for décor. They have a great selection of bar stools, rugs, indoor and outdoor seating, and fun, quirky things to freshen up a space. What a peculiar and interesting store World Market is. Beer and wine, international foods, furniture, and random cool gifts? Alright! I haven't explored every nook and cranny yet. But my favorite part is the international food section. You can find spices and things here that you can't find at Whole Foods/ Trader Joes/ Kroger / Harris Teeter / or, well, any chain grocery store in the Triangle. They have an amazing selection of international candies and cookies including Kinder and Haribro. I think World Market is the best place for stocking stuffers. I like this store a lot. There are so many fun little novelties. You will find furniture here, home interior items, international snacks, beer, wine, and general knick knacks, most of them actually not as kitschy as you might think. And its not that expensive. I saw a lot of snacks and sauces that I have not seen in years. It's a fun place to browse around in and you can find some good unusual gift ideas here. I was looking for mince pies, but they were out of those. I will say some of the international snacks you can find cheaper in 'ethnic' stores. Meh. Every time I go to World Market, I'm disappointed in the quality of the merchandise. The stuff they're selling has a lot of curb appeal, but on closer examination it's almost always true that you're getting what you pay for. It has that "discount junk store" atmosphere, and the service fluctuates between pretty good and pretty bad. I'll go in there for the very occasional deal, but I generally find I'll do better (especially in the long run, when quality becomes a factor) by shopping elsewhere. Love this place because it has everything i need and everything that i don't need and I end up walking out of here with a lot of both every time! World Market has a lot of the same kitchen items as Crate and Barrell, so if i need seasonal place settings I'm here first. And, it's not so mainstream either, so I like the quirky splash of colors and themes around my house. Outdoor things - A+ (Our outdoor patio is ALL world market stuff and it holds up really well!) Kitchen Things - A+ specialty foods - B+ (i wish they had more of this stuff) Furniture - A (i bought our dining room chairs here and i LOVE them) and finally, the wine and beer- B I have to give them a slightly lower rating on beer and wine because i always find it cheaper somewhere else! it's nice to mix and match the beer though. and, if you keep your eye out for coupons and deals, you can occasionally get a nice steal in this department. My suggestion, check this place out. there is something for all styles and tastes.
