Oh friends, this rental was a doozy! Let me start by saying that I travel extensively for business and rent almost exclusively from Dollar, maybe 30-40 times a season ... so I am very loyal to the brand, and 9 times out 10, the rental is just fine. OK. They've been pushing 'Check-in online and skip the counter', so that's what I did. I had an 8pm pickup on Sunday, Nov. 17th. I received my initial agreement from Dollar (pictured) and then a follow up email telling me what space my car would be located (Pictured). So far, so good! When I arrived, my beautiful silver Nissan Altima was waiting for me. Only one tiny problem. Every Dollar staff member had gone for the day, including the person who mans the security hut on the way out. So there was NO WAY to leave the parking garage! Additionally, there were two other reservations walking around, also with a very confused look on their faces. So knowing that there were 3 outstanding reservations that evening with 8pm pickups, the staff at this location just up and split! I ended up renting from Hertz and the other two from Avis. Now here's the kicker. The next day, I received a receipt for my car rental from Dollar ... even though the car NEVER left the premises. Additionally, someone altered the mileage to make it seem as though the car was driven 121 miles. (See pictures with red circles) I'm pretty sure they were trying to cover their butts for screwing up ... but whatever the reason, it's still pretty skeezy. I have reported the incident to Hertz Corporate. Bottom line, based on my experience and the reviews of others, I would avoid renting from the Memphis Airport Dollar, if possible. Even after having a reservation, i had to wait for 2 hours to get a car. No apologies or explanation from the employee. They were just handing cars as it comes in so it means it wasn't cleaned prior to giving it to new customers. Never did I experience this.... CLASSIC BAIT & SWITCH Nightmare! I had to wait about an hour in 18 degree weather. I was lucky because customer after customer came by and were told they had no cars left even though they had paid in full and had a reservation. The App told me to wait and it would update when my car was ready. It never was ready. I went to the counter to be told I'm next but they don't know how long. NEVER AGAIN. It appears they own the other brand that is much higher priced and they direct you to them. I found out later my suspicions were correct since I had an $18 a day rate only to be told I would have to pay $60+ a day to upgrade or take my chances. read more

They do not honor reservations. They book up as many as they can, more than the cars they have, and then when you arrive they tell you they have no cars and leave you stranded and do not assist in helping you book another car anywhere else. What is probably the most annoying thing that can happen when you rent a car? Let me tell you, it is prepaying for said vehicle and then going to the counter to find out, "there are no vehicles". Yes, no vehicles at a car rental. Okay, let's backtrack a little. We get into line at Dollar and notice that Dollar is the only rental car company with a line, not sure if that's a good sign or not. I truly cannot tell if the girl behind the counter was rude, helpful, or just indifferent, but what I do know is that she was not helpful. She did say that we can pay an extra $300 for a bigger vehicle. Mind you, I paid $80 for the reservation, I didn't want to spend an additional $300 for a vehicle. And Every rental company I've dealt with has given you the upgrade for free as it's their error. She said we could wait about "twenty minutes" for a car upstairs. We go and notice a bunch of other people were told the same thing. A line is forming around the area near the pickup spot out in the garage. I get back in line. See about cars and there was a compact. I'm 6'6' so I needed to set inside to make sure I could drive. But before that, we were asked again to pay the $300 for an upgrade. I asked if we'd get money back on the smaller car and was told no because it was somehow the same price. I could tell that people were waiting a really long time and took the demotion from my full size vehicle to compact. Not a member but there is a sign to head upstairs to level 2. It will bring you to a booth in the parking lot (it is triple digits weather right about now). We had a reservation at 4pm. Waited in line for about 30 mins only to be checked in and it could be up to an hour wait. What is the point of a reservation?! So now, it will be closer to 5:30pm before we get our car. I understand there is a labor and car shortage and the demand is higher since it's summer and a Friday. But what really got me upset was that they supposedly called my name but the rep (whom I checked in with and spoke to!) mispronounced by last name so bad- it didn't even sound like it! And.... Supposedly my car was ready 30 mins ago!! Here's the kicker- I was sitting on the concrete steps a few feet from the rep and with a clear line of sight! Don't you think if it was ready 30 mins ago- you would look at me and wave me over?! (The other customer sitting next to me the whole time said he didn't even hear a last name called remotely to what mine was supposed to be!) Oh and my last name is so easy to pronounce even a first grader can read it. Anyways, stick with the other guys.... Dollar was disappointing at this location. Avoid at all costs. If you have to rent from here cancel your trip. The staff is vulgar, unfriendly, and unkind. They don't care. They are slow. They are uneducated. This awful because of the people. The workers are trash. People making reservations, can't get cars, the workers don't care and don't provide information. We arrived to pick up our rental on time. We were told that there is a 2-3 hour wait. This is absorb and very unprofessional. I reserved a rental car for a 10am pick up at the Memphis Airport location through the Dollar website. When I arrived they had only 1car available which was an SUV. I was told the I would have to wait between3-5 hours for a car or upgrade for $50 extra a day to the SUV. The young man at the counter was apologetic and explained that the company at large takes the reservations not aware of the available inventory, which is a horrible business practice. I asked to speak to a supervisor he called her and she said she'd be right down. After waiting 15 minutes I asked if she was still coming down. He called her back and she said she wasn't and that I can speak to her on the agents personal cell phone which had an issue with the volume and I could barely hear her. When I explained the situation there were no apologies she told me the when I rent a car I'm not renting a car I'm renting a "spot" which is not the same thing. When I rent a "spot" there's no guarantee of the time I will get the car. What???? I asked her where this policy was and she said it was on the website. I then asked where on the site and she responded that I would have to look for it. I told her that if she is quoting a policy she should be able to direct me to where I could read it. She said if I didn't stop giving her attitude she would go in the system and blacklist me. After receiving this threat she continued to berate me and I just passed the phone back to the attendant. She asked the attendant for my name and I just told him I would be cancelling the reservation. When I called the main office I once again didn't receive an apology or an offer to accommodate me. When I was told they cancelled my order I asked for proof. He said I would get an email in 15 minutes and I could check online. When I asked for a cancellation number he said it was the same as a confirmation number. I never received an email and my confirmation/cancellation number is no longer showing up in their system which I can only hope means it's been cancelled, but now I'll have to take additional time out of my vacation to call my credit card company to ensure I didn't get charged. Now a great way to start a trip. I strongly advise NOT to rent from Dollar! read more

A reservation was made to pick up a family member at Memphis airport, with Dollar Rent A Car (our last option) due to National shortage on rental cars. The name on the reservation was far fingered as "Brain" instead of "Brian". Now, the location at the airport refused to change the name. My relative called customer service from the location and was on hold for an hour. This was going on between 7:45PM and 9:00PM. By the time he got hold of someone over the phone, and we at the other end did at our end at 9:00PM, the person at the location had left. The customer service agent said, he can't get the car out today, because the counter closed. The only way to get the car was cancel the reservation and rebook. The customer service agent with the name Manish/ICE (gave me a fake alias when I asked for his name, but gave me his real name when he first answered) refused to help, refused to escalate and hung up. Now, this relative is stranded at the airport for three hours as we were that far away. This is the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Please stay away from Dollar Rent A Car. PS: The card on the reservation was verified by the person who booked it. The customer service pushed it to counter, counter did not wait long enough to get the issue resolved. I had the worse experience this weekend at the Airport with dollar rent a car. at the Memphis airport. I made a reservation 2 months in advance, called 1 week before arriving to ensure that a car would be available for me, as I had very important meetings to attend in Memphis. I get to the airport and there are NO cars available. Representative stated that there was a wait, but couldn't give me a definite time when a car would be available. Unfortunately, also, there were a group of about 30 individuals who had reserved a van and had been waiting for hours, and still no luck for a vehicle. After arranging to get a rental from another courier, my costs tripled, along with missing my scheduled meeting. I also spoke with other meeting participants, and they had experienced the same issues with Dollar. It appears that this has become the norm at this site, And nothing has never been done to correct the problems at this site. I will be sending a letter to the President of Dollar, and if my expenses are not recouped for my losses, I will contact the media for which i'm involved. NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!! read more

HORRIBLE DO NOT RENT FROM! They told us they had no cars at first, and the person on the phone said they did. Turns out they were not cleaning cars, someone we talked to was waiting for almost 3 hours for a car to be cleaned. We also had a reservation in advance but the did not give us a car. That would of not been to bad if they had a bench or something to sit on other than the crusty dirty window ledge. This airport has many places to rent but some how they do not have cars or some cars for 2500 for 6 days. This is ridiculous in the future I will not rent from this airport but instead a rental outside. Just be careful the women at the counter don't try to sneak in extra costs like they did for us, then try to make it so inconvenient for you to get your original quoted rate that they hope you will just be okay with paying an extra $300 ... I booked a car out of here when my flight home was cancelled after visiting my deployed husband and did not specify nor was I asked where I would be returning my vehicle. When I showed up to Orlando with the car I was charged a $350 rehoming fee for the car because the teller in Memphis assumed I was returning it in Memphis. I also returned it with a full tank of gas and was charged $67 for gas. When I confronted the company they had no explanation for the gas charge and were not open to refunding any of my money even though all of this was their error. They also charged me for 2 full days instead of prorating me for 1.5 days. I will never be using Dollar again. read more

The worst I ever experienced. First they gave me a car with incredibly large, ugly stains on the drivers seat, and the back seat, and it had no floor mats. But that's not the worst part (regarding the care itself). The car also had bald tires on the front which I didn't realize until I noticed a shiny object in the tire (nail) the day before I was to take it back. Now the worst part: I won't go into details about the attitude of the woman who treated me like a third class citizen when I dropped the car off. But she did everything in her power to get to me. There was NO service or care in her customer animosity. It's beyond me how people like her get a job....and keep a job! Im glad this wasn't far from the airport! We didn't need a shuttle to the rental location. Just a short walk from the baggage claim. Ez access to the front desk. We booked our reservation in advance on-line along with hotel accommodations so we had a confirmation upon arrival. Associate was friendly and efficient with helping us. Wasn't a long wait to get the car. I was already tired from the flight so I didn't want to rant about color or style, dent and scratches... just fresh outta the wash. This is a well maintained car service with eco friendly options, with no excessive pressure we took the second car that came along and it was clean and worked just completely fine. Our luggage fit in the trunk and our hotel wasn't but a 15 minute drive from the airport. We had a full tank of gas and drove all over & the car had very good fuel efficiency and nice drive. Radio even worked well. Wiper too. On our second day driving, @ a rest stop I noticed something like road kill all over the front passenger tire. Like ketchup but had fur. I figure I ran something over like a rabbit or squirrel. The next day at the post office I asked this man to help me pull out a tail that was hanging out of the tire rim. We tried to use the long stick to pinch the tail but whatever it was, was stuck inside the plastic rim. Like a dead rat or mouse. Anyways, we filled up the gas before we returned the car and upon our return the employee greeted us & had a clip board checking off but we did not have a receipt from the gas station for filling up the gas full so we were deducted. Such a minor issue, he told us it was in the contract that we signed at the front desk. Anyways, we were free to go. We had a flight to catch back to California! Later when we received our bank statement, we noticed we were charged for not having a gas receipt. So, of course we had to call customer service to reverse the extra charges. Next time we rent a car, we will keep the gas receipts. This was no problem. Great Experience. Overall, my experience with Dollar Rental Car was exactly what I would expect. To start at the beginning, you get hit with fines you had no idea about as soon as you walk in to get the car. They make you sit and wait while they play and goof around. They completely ignore car reservations made in advance. Worst service I've ever experienced renting a car. The employees were beyond rude, the girls behind the desk made us stand to the side for close to an hour while they sat on their cell phones, and the man who we gave the keys to had ABSOLUTELY awful customer service. Not to mention when I picked the brand new car up, almost an hour late mind you, it reeked of marijuana inside the car. I was happy with the car and the rental process. I got an intermediate rental, which turned out to be some type of 4-door, 4-cylinder, fully automatic black Hyundai. Good pick-up and brakes, 15,000 miles on it. $26 per weekend day. Plus 2 stars for the car and condition. However, I had a shuttle driver from hell on my way from returning the car to the airport. First, I received a hard time for not letting him handle my bag. Then, I made it abundantly clear I wasn't up for conversation, and he just kept talking and pushing questions. Finally, the entire time I felt like a piece of meat because he thought he was cute in this whole process. Like it was a game of hard-to-get when I literally just wanted him to shut the f*** up. They charged me a $16 dollar "late" fee even though I was in the 24 hour period because I got stuck in traffic. When I complained on-line I was told it was because they were "busy" even though I was the only person dropping off a car. Nice enough people at the counter but a nickle-and-dining company. read more
