Do not do business with these thieves. We rented a car from them on a summer trip to Canada, and were asked if we wanted to use the toll pass. The agent told us they out would put a hold on our card to cover any tolls we passed through, and the difference would be returned to us after the trip. For a 4 day rental they put $190 hold on our card, which is more than you'd pay in tolls driving down the entire east coast and back. During our trip, we passed through (1) toll, and now a month later the hood turned into a full $190 charge...they are claiming the charge is for the option to use their toll pass which is definitely not the option we were told. We called to dispute it and were told we'd have to go to the rental location to dispute it...which is absolute BS, we are in NC and not able to travel back. I would never do business with this dishonest company again, and I strongly suggest you avoid them too read more

The worst rental experience I've ever had. The car was not ready (I waited a hour for it, even though it was reserved weeks ahead. The agent, Mohammad was as rude and disrespectful as he could be! Worse experience ever and horrible customer service to match. Muhammad acted like a POS and when I asked him for the corporate number, he tossed a pamphlet at me. I then asked him for a pen and he also tossed that at me. I called the customer service number and told them what was going on and all they did was confirm that there were vehicles available, said thank you, bye and hung up on me. I then spoke with the supervisor, who told me that their corporate office had overbooked vehicles but that there was nothing she could do. As I was speaking with her she became irritated and shut the window on me and told me to go away. I then pulled out my cellphone to record her behavior and she yelled at me to stop recording before she called airport security to have me removed. Ayaya, this crew could use some training in the department of efficiency and sense of urgency. The line kept growing yet their speed to turn customers and get them on the road remained perpetually slow. I waited more than 50 minutes in line to get my rental car. During that time I contemplated cancelling my reservation and booking with one of the other options on-site. Despite there being three staff, only two were working the counter (Hertz and Dollar are under the same umbrella). I understand their loyalty to gold members but they kept moving them to the front of the line as they would arrive which made the line nearly not move at all. I honestly wouldn't have been so bothered by it if the staff members had some hustle and acknowledged the crazy-long line. None of the other counters seemed to have this issue. Horrible customer experience. I made a reservation online and paid pin advanced. When I got there, I was asked if I wanted extra coverage for roadside assistance and damage waivers. I declined. When i went to get my car, it was not what I needed and was a tiny compact Chevy Spark. I needed something slightly bigger. When I upgraded the car, the person at the counter slipped in a ton of extra charges that I previously declined that added an additional 300 dollars to the tab. Many people were in the same situation as I was today (8/8/2023) in Buffalo, NY airport. We had reservations, waited in line for 20-30 minutes to get to the counter, and then were told our cars were NOT ready. Staff said that cars would be ready soon, but after another 30 minutes with no action, we went to an adjacent rental agency. Turns out, when you have a reservation for a car at Dollar, nobody shows up to work that day, and everyone has to wait in the Hertz line. They should just put it in their ads: "Our prices are marginally cheaper because we have no employees and we make you wait for someone else to help you!" Yes, the Dollar counter. He said they're a satellite office & Hertz on certain days provides the service for Dollar customers. ( I asked) . He said the van would be a little while for cleaning and asked if we'd like a free upgrade? . After questioning gas mileage difference- we agreed and accepted a Chevy Suburban! "Best" choice to accept and very grateful! Utilized all the space and a very comfortable ride to & from OBX/NC. Upon return- a gentleman met me in the lot- took the mileage, keys, copy of contract & done. So easy. Convenient. Overall- no issues like previous reviewers. I was pleased. First: In know all the other reviews for this location are negative. I went with Dollar solely because of price: they were just about HALF of everyone else's prices! I scheduled a pickup for 4pm on Thursday 5/12/22. The Buffalo Airport location is easy to get to and when I entered there was no one in line ahead of me. The person at the counter was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The transaction went smoothly through the entire process--things are complicated now. He was great to work with. I returned the chevy Trax today 3/16/22 at 3:30pm. One of the dollar employees directed me to the returning car lineup. I handed him the keys. He checked the mileage, looked through the papers in my contract, and handed me my copy of the contract. That was it. As smooth as possible. The receipt was in my email by the time I got back home. I'm starting to travel more and Dollar will be my first choice for car rentals. Excellent job. read more

We rented from Dollar out of the Buffalo/Niagara airport on our way to Niagara Falls and a trip to Erie Pa. The rental counter is located right outside baggage claim. Picking up the car was easy and the service person was pleasant and got us on our way as quick as possible. Our SUV was a Jeep Compass, which had all the bells and whistles. The ride was nice, the gas mileage was good and overall, the car performed just as we needed. Return was quick and easy. I would use Dollar again if I returned to the Buffalo area. read more

I sat there for 30 minutes before going downstairs to the booth where they told me the agent upstairs never processed my reservation. They ended up giving me the last midsize car in spite of having paid for a full size. Connie is the laziest, unwilling to provide anything other than robotic check representative. When at the Dollar counter, the person charged me for 2 more insurance policies I didn't request and satellite radio I didn't request either. I only asked for the tolls. Even though is not located right outside the airport, I would not hesitate to rent from them again. They provide a shuttle to pick you from the airport to their location. Very friendly and fast service. Car was ready as soon as we signed the rental papers, process was fast and without any problems. Same experience on our way back to return the car. No more than 5 minutes and we were on the shuttle on or way back to the airport. On top of good service it was cheaper than the rest of the major car rental companies. We had a great experience at this location. Located directly across the street from baggage claim in the Buffalo International Airport (just a simple one minute walk). We arrived on a Friday around 4pm to find no one on line (yeah lucky us!)  The lady at the counter was nice and pulled up our reservation we made at Dollar.com two weeks prior. We were shown exactly what we were going to pay which matched my reservation. We were in and out in less than 10 minutes. Our car was immaculate and in good working condition. It was very easy to drive in and out of the airport. When we returned the car we were immediately greeted by a friendly man who gave me my receipt again was exactly what was quoted on my reservation and at the counter. The return process took less than five minutes. I do recommend booking on their website at Dollar.com because the fees including taxes, optional insurance rates etc. are all shown but most third party websites will not show all the fees and you will get a big shock at the counter. Also you will be asked at the counter if you will bring car back with gas tank full or empty. Make sure you choose to fill up tank prior to return or they will charge you an exorbitant fee per gallon. read more

Our car wasn't available when we got there, it was supposedly being detailed so we waited 45 minutes. They gave us a SUV which stunk so bad. After waiting in line for an hour, and then waiting on the curb for another 3 because they were overbooked and under staffed to get cars out, we missed our tour of the Niagra Falls which cost me $250. Next, when I received my car it was in very poor condition and not well maintained or cleaned. Next, after driving from Buffalo to Boston (which you are charged $220 to do) nobody was on site to receive the car when I dropped it off, despite all the signs saying they were open. I waited in line for an hour, got to the counter and was told it would be another hour and a half wait to get a vehicle that I reserved in advance. I spoke to one of the workers at the Alamo counter, and she told me Dollar/Hertz had plenty of cars downstairs. So she had no idea why it was taking them so long to get customers in vehicles. She also said this experience is the norm for them. I would've went to another counter, but I had already paid for the rental as a bundle deal with my flight. After a long flight, the last thing a person wants to do is wait over 2 hours for a car. So unacceptable. I will never rent here again, and I wouldn't recommend anyone else does. read more

I don't always do negative reviews unless they are warranted. However due to the issues I am having with this company I feel the need to warn others. Now the staff member I worked with originally was great however I don't know if due to working in law enforcement or what was the reason for the big time screw over. So the vehicle was great as well so no issues there but when I returned it and dropped the keys off I proceeded to get nonstop phone calls after my honeymoon for the next month asking me to return the vehicle that was literally parked in there garage and the keys handed to them. Now the best part was how they decided to charge me much more that what was in my agreement and lack of willingness to correct the issue. Don't use them!! I booked a reservation through Expedia.. The total was supposed to be $378.57.. I should have realized that something was up when it wouldn't let me pay the full amount right then and there.. They ended up hitting me with so many additional fees, charged me $15/day for a kids booster seat (I have 2 kids so it was $30/day) when the booster seat itself costs $30, scared me into paying $15/day for the Sunpass/EZpass by telling me that all the roads we would be driving on are toll roads (we went through 1 toll road all week) and charged me $60 for a tank of gas!! My grand total was over double that at $818.96!! I didn't get suckered into the additional insurance either, I checked ahead of time to confirm that my auto insurance covers the vehicle.. The woman at the counter was an arrogant jerk as well, she totally copped an attitude when I asked HOW it could be that much and claimed that she couldn't see in her system if the $261.38 I had already paid was included.. Just a total scam.. Worst possible experience!! If I could leave a zero star review I would!!! read more

We booked thru Rentalcars a SUV or similar before our flight. On our confirmation papers it had Dollar Car Rental listed as car hire company with this address. I notice they have two addresses so I tried to call but no answer. I read a review that we needed to take a shuttle to this location. When we landed at Buffalo Airport at 5am we went downstairs to pick up our luggage and headed outside where a shuttle for Days Inn was waiting. The driver told us that they no longer have a Dollar Rental Car at that address ( 4301 Genesee St.) I thought to myself, what is he talking about? I had booked a car and had paid for it and the paperwork in my hands, I showed him my confirmation and he tells me he has been working their for 10 years he should know if they have a Dollar Rental it was right here inside the building right across the street from Baggage Claim (my heart just dropped) I felt sooooo much better we weren't taken advantage of and a car was waiting for us in the garage. Check in was soooooo simple. And we walked to the garage to pick up a Beautiful shiny Blue 2018 Toyota Corolla Pathfinder which was soooo spacious. Except one problem, when we got into this car to drive we had no key to put into the ignition cause it had a push button starter. It took about 10 minutes to figure out how to start this car but when we did, it took us where we wanted to go. We also like the EZ pass on the front of the windshield was very easy to cross the boarder and the toll boothe. The heater worked really well cause it was a bit chilly. Overall, this was a good running vehicle, comfortable and good on fuel and it didn't smell like cigarette smoke. No problems returning this car. We just pulled up with a full tank and drop off without any hassle. Good trip. Good customer service. read more

They are obviously practicing "bait & switch", where they do not honor your reservation, say they are "giving" you an upgrade like they are doing something nice, and then charge you for it! DO NOT USE Dollar/Hertz rental agency. They have no clue what "Service First" means. Save yourself the headache. This was by far the worse experience we have had in our travels. When reaching our destination we proceeded to the Dollar Rental desk where we were told they would not honor our PREPAID reservation as we did not have the original credit card it was booked under (card was stopped due to fraud). Ok, we get that. No problem let's move on. We were then told they did not have an economy car available. How could they not, we had a reservation. Since we're not using our "reservation" the car should still be in inventory. No. The ONLY car they have available is an SUV. We went from $182 (which we prepaid) for our time with the car to $702. What a scam!! Then the desk clerk would not cancel our original reservation and process the refund. He told us we had to make a call to the Hertz/Dollar offices to process that. The representative I spoke to was very kind and promised there would be no cancellation fee since their agency refused to honor the reservation. Funny, we received less than half of what we prepaid as the refund. Now another call needs to be made. Imagine that, they can't find record of our original request so they cannot refund us the additional $100. Asked for a supervisor in the USA and told there are no supervisors in the USA but they would have one call us when they could. It's been a week - no call from a supervisor. BEWARE OF HIDDEN CHARGES! Prepaid car rental quoted at $118 for 3 days, with a grand total of $148 including taxes and fees. After rental my bill was $260. All sorts of hidden additional charges. 15% tax (sales tax is 8%, but they somehow get away with charging a hotel service tax), road side service I didn't ask for (I already have AAA), because I gave them my frequent flier mile number, they added a fee for that, airport surcharge, and some other illegible charges, total of $140 in hidden charges. more than double the price quoted. I've rented a car from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport Dollar Rent A Car office numerous times in the last 3 months. Tim, the office manager, has been absolutely incredible...as has his female office manager (Lisa or Caroline?). Although the office wasn't based right outside the Buffalo Airport as numerous other rental car companies are, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to friends and family due to their kindness and willingness to accommodate me in my short notice needs for a vehicle.
