The first order of business when you pull up to park is to set the parking brake, the drive is quite steep and the parking spaces are as well. I did the tour of the front porch first, it's filled with old and worn objects from many decades there are some cool pieces but like others have said very few items seen reasonably priced. I don't expect these types of shops to be bargain basement thrift store prices and actually I like the negotiation part of this hobby. I'm an avid collector of a few different things but I'm also very picky when it comes to condition and authenticity and I'm fine with paying the fair market values if the piece meets the criteria. I spent a considerable amount of time in here, there's lots of inventory and although most of the pieces are displayed in plain view there are some hidden gems that require a little more work and as you'd expect not everything is priced, I usually dismiss these pieces unless I'm extremely interested in them and usually am very happy the prices are missing because it's doubtful the person at the counter can set the price and they need to make a phone call to the owner - offsite owners usually offer discounts and listen to counter offers and this only take a few minutes in most cases. I'd stop in here again although the inventory probably doesn't turn because of the prices...

Since the new owners took over they have gotten rid of racing fuel and gutted the inside. They used to have grocery staples and basics but they don't have any of that any more. As a local I used to be able to rely on this place. It went from being a quaint country store to a trashy place that I don't recognize any more. Sometimes cutting corners and focusing on profit is not what's best for the business. I don't think the new owners understand this areas country culture at all.

We stumbled upon it while traveling and found ourselves in one of those situations every road trip eventually creates: the snack supply was running low, thirst levels were rising, and a restroom stop had become a strategic necessity. The Village Market IGA delivered on all fronts. The place occupies a unique category that I can't quite define. It's either an exceptionally well-stocked convenience store or a small grocery store that accidentally became convenient. Either way, it works. The selection was surprisingly good, making it easy to grab some road snacks and a Snapple before continuing our adventure. The aisles were well stocked, and unlike some roadside stores where your choices are limited to three flavors of regret and an energy drink you've never heard of, there was actually some variety. The bathrooms were relatively clean, which on a road trip is often the difference between a pleasant stop and a story you tell for all the wrong reasons. The staff was friendly, efficient, and moved people through quickly. No drama. No delays. No waiting behind someone trying to decide which lottery tickets would finally change their life. Just a smooth stop and back on the road. Was it life-changing? No. Did I discover the meaning of existence between the Snapple cooler and the potato chips? Also no. But it was clean, convenient, well stocked, and staffed by nice people. And honestly, that's exactly what I wanted. Four stars. Dennis welcomed my wife and I as soon as we walked in the door and after I explained my situation and target types of waters he took me straight to the perfect affordable setup. He expertly answered my questions and refrained from trying to upsell me to the readily available much more expensive options. Once we'd made our choices he left us to wander the store browsing. In the end I walked out with a nice rod and reel combo, a few extra leads and tippets and a big smile on my face.
