A must-stop shop along the historic Route 66 in Tucumcari, NM - just a short jaunt off the 40…read more We came for postcards & left w/everything from vintage toys to Native American wares to Route 66 memorabilia to... PONCHO'S! You might call them Baja hoodies, but growing up surfing the southern CA beaches our crew called them ponchos. A reg staple from our trips to Tijuana, Mexico. Since moving to Nor Cal, they've been hard to come by & we were delighted to find, on our trip to Nebraska last year, many truck stops carry them. So when our daughter asked us to pick one up for her during this trip we thought it would be an easy task. Not so. All the wasted time spent searching out post cards & ponchos, we'd already given up. Enter Tee Pee Curios! Ponchos galore!! But wait, there's more! Every corner of this shop has a treasure waiting to be discovered. We spent over an hour oo-ing & aah-ing & "look at this!"-ing. Here's a list of our finds: - Ponchos (there's a variety of clothing to choose from) - Post cards - Jewelry - Vintage Toys (sling shot/"cowboy & Indian" play set - we play to make friends not to fight) - Native American Flute - Miniature wooden bobble-head animals - Miniature carved stone animals - Shark teeth & Arrowheads - Magnets (state-shaped New Mexico & Route 66 - there's several spinning racks & an entire wall full) - Variety of unusual household nicknacks - Vintage style Gold-rush gum & other treats Note: Some 1 star reviewers have complained about poor treatment. We did not find that the case on our visit. From the moment we entered to a friendly greeting, to the moment we left w/a cheerful goodbye, the two tending the shop were helpful to answer our questions & direct us to whatever we might need. If you're making time along the 40, you won't regret the short 66 detour to Tee Pee Curios.

Just before leaving town to head back home, I popped in on August 3, 2026. I picked up a couple rain sticks made in South America if I remember correctly for my daughters because they each always wanted one. I also snatched a Stuckey's pecan roll. So delicious. Hard to find these days. There were tons of souvenirs & gift items. This particular shop is the last of its kind. It would be great if the service was a lot better.

When the lottery payouts are high I typically purchase advanced draw tickets in each state I…read moretravel. while traveling thru NM I had purchased tickets for which I had a $20 win. I gave my winning ticket (which had a remaining draw) to a clerk at Loves Travel Stop #262. The clerk named Destiny checked the ticket, received the payout stub and the exchange ticket that should have been returned to me. She took several minutes reading the slips that were output. So I am certain she was aware of each ticket's purpose. I asked her if there was confusion about what was output. She very rudely answered "No," she then proceeded to give me my $20 winnings but not the lottery exchange ticket (which for me was most valuable). When I ask where was my exchange ticket, she walked over, grabbed it and slammed it down on the counter with an attitude. SHE DEFINITELY INTENDED TO KEEP IT!

The bathrooms were clean, and the staff were keeping things stocked and clean. They also had some fresh cut fruit, which was a nice change of pace instead of regular junk food. They also usually have some type of hot food available, whether it's a restaurant that's part of it or a hot sandwich cold sandwich area. They have a consistent product. There's plenty of trucker services from showers to qas and parking that were adequate for the truckers and for vehicles.

This store is cute!! Stopped here upon leaving the La Mesa Motel right down the street. The aisles…read morewere stocked, clerk was friendly. Great selection of drinks and food. Hot food items also available even though we stopped in early in the morning. Also noticed they had a good selection of medicines and other items. I'd like it if this store was right down the street from my home in San Diego!

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! My elderly mother went in on 6/16/25 and prepaid $60 cash for gas. She asked…read morethe cashier if they could scan her app so she could get the .35 cent discount per gallon and they did. Her car used $43 so she went back in for the $17 change to which the cashier said "I can't give you the change in cash (even though she paid cash ) the way it works is the $17 will go back onto your Valero account as a credit for you to use next time". She said OK and drove off... Now fast-forward to today, she's checked her bank account just now and that gas station charged her the $43 that she used because her credit card was on file on the app. So the cashier pocketed her $60 cash and still charged her app/credit card the $43. We have already called the corporate office and filed a claim as we have both receipts showing that she paid $60 cash and was also charged $43 on her Valero account... (proof is there!!!!) we will be emailing the receipt receipts to corporate and they said they will file a claim against the office and hopefully give my mother a gift card for the $60 that was stolen from her at this location! Absolutely do not go here unless you want to be double charged and have your money stolen from you! Thankfully, my mother was smart enough to get receipts for both transactions so we have all of the proof we need to prove that he stole the money from her. What a piece of crap person to steal from an elderly woman! Lucky I don't file a police report against him. Fair warning to everyone else out there do not go here!
