I had to leave my air-conditioning on in the Jeep while my dog stayed put as she was not welcome inside. On August 2, 2026, the temperature was 98 °F. The older lady at the counter was not welcoming when I came inside. Maybe because it was almost closing time? But there were other patrons there as well. At least not at first. It took me sharing a joke with her and reaching out to her initially to receive better customer service. I didn't buy much. Just $9.20 for a magnet and a sticker. Was able to pay cash. And picked up some free reading material. Side street parking was available. When in Tucumcari, lower your standards.

PONCHO'S! You might call them Baja hoodies, but growing up surfing the southern CA beaches our crew called them ponchos. A reg staple from our trips to Tijuana, Mexico. Since moving to Nor Cal, they've been hard to come by & we were delighted to find, on our trip to Nebraska last year, many truck stops carry them. So when our daughter asked us to pick one up for her during this trip we thought it would be an easy task. Not so. All the wasted time spent searching out post cards & ponchos, we'd already given up. Enter Tee Pee Curios! Ponchos galore!! But wait, there's more! Every corner of this shop has a treasure waiting to be discovered. We spent over an hour oo-ing & aah-ing & "look at this!"-ing. Here's a list of our finds: - Ponchos (there's a variety of clothing to choose from) - Post cards - Jewelry - Vintage Toys (sling shot/"cowboy & Indian" play set - we play to make friends not to fight) - Native American Flute - Miniature wooden bobble-head animals - Miniature carved stone animals - Shark teeth & Arrowheads - Magnets (state-shaped New Mexico & Route 66 - there's several spinning racks & an entire wall full) - Variety of unusual household nicknacks - Vintage style Gold-rush gum & other treats Note: Some 1 star reviewers have complained about poor treatment. We did not find that the case on our visit. From the moment we entered to a friendly greeting, to the moment we left w/a cheerful goodbye, the two tending the shop were helpful to answer our questions & direct us to whatever we might need. If you're making time along the 40, you won't regret the short 66 detour to Tee Pee Curios.

Just before leaving town to head back home, I popped in on August 3, 2026. I picked up a couple rain sticks made in South America if I remember correctly for my daughters because they each always wanted one. I also snatched a Stuckey's pecan roll. So delicious. Hard to find these days. There were tons of souvenirs & gift items. This particular shop is the last of its kind. It would be great if the service was a lot better.

[https://www.facebook.com/Route66WeddingChapel], also known as the "Mother Road Old Time Photos". On Wednesday we called and spoke to Leigh who was able to answer all of our questions and concerns. Leigh was able to schedule our remarriage for that following Saturday. We were greeted with professionalism and great care. We were provided with witnesses and our officiate who are also fellow business owners. Our wedding ceremony was everything we had hoped it would be from ceiling to floor beautiful (and calming) decorations. Our photos were gorgeous and our "bubble send off" was so much fun! Our second walk down the aisle was even more meaningful and our officiate Yvonne knew just what to say which was exactly what was in our hearts and minds. My wife and I highly recommend Mother Road Old Time Photos/Route 66 Wedding Chapel. Airan and Duana Biderman

I don't know what it was before they painted a True Value sign on the building, but I'll guaranty you it was a community staple for decades before True Value ever existed.
